  • Do you think there should be a ballroom program for kids in school?
Learn about the incredible ballroom program in Brownsville, Texas and how the students flourish. There is no program as this in the US, except for one in New York and it completely transforms the kids in a positive way!
Everyone that was asked about the kids in the program say that they've never met a group of kids their age as responsible, positive, inspired, well-mannered and well-educated. Even the kids themselves admit that ballroom has changed their life for the better. They say that it teaches them to respect and communicate with others, and gives them confidence in life- not just in dance. They enjoy the program so much that it even makes them study hard and keep their grades up so that they can keep participating and compete in the championship!
The parents and educators have also observed that the kids interact more with each other, and it has really helped the shy kids gain confidence in the program, the rest of their academic environment and outside of school.
The first year it was only offered in elementary school, and 150 students participated. The kids loved the experience and the parents started asking if the program would be offered in middle school. It has now grown to 550-600 students and is offered in middle and high schools across the Brownsville Independent School District.
The Brownsville Independent School District falls in an area that is 98% economically disadvantaged and this program is keeping kids off of the streets, involved in something positive, and gives them another reason to study and keep their grades up.
"Ballroom programs such as this here at BISD, create a wealth of good values: Self Discipline, Confidence, Compassion, Passion, Hope, Friendship, that is necessary for every young adult in this world today to succeed and be as happy as they can be."
Imagine what this could do across the country!
