Still makes me a little sad whenever I see any of these older videos with Neil looking so young. I guess a little sad for my own youth too, so long ago now.
Best instrumental of all time!! They nicknamed this song “An Exercise in Self Indulgence”( thank you, Jared) This one is an actual story based on a dream Alex had! Broken up into 12 sections it is a story complete with characters and plot! Geddy said one time that the song writing for this had really exceeded their abilities! But after a few months they got this down perfect and played it at nearly every show!! A fan favorite for sure!! Be well and God Bless... from Texas!!
That song is a story in itself. It's a Dream that Alex had. Each part is a part of the dream. The beginning is falling asleep, drifting off then the story continues. Each part of the song is named on the album and it coincides with the music which is a part of the dream. The part "Monsters", well that's self explanatory. "Monsters Reprise", well you get it. Like where the guitar solo starts off slow and quiet. Then it builds and builds until it's a hard, fast, scorching solo... it's the beginning of the dream, the dream builds and builds until it's pure mayhem. Just like YYZ is telling a story of traveling. Neil came up with that when coming up to land at Toronto International Airport. Once again, the music tells the story and it tells it well. If you know what these songs are about you can easily see each story being told. It's incredible how these 3 guys can tell such intricate storys so well without singing or speaking a word! Time changes, key changes are all seamless. They made it look all so easy. Watch Alex at the beginning where he's picking that 1 chord. Watch him move from left to right. He's playing the Taurus pedals. He is taking care of all of the string sounds while Geddy's Taurus pedals are holding down the low end. Playing 2 different parts, one with your hands and one with your feet! It's incredible that neither one trips and falls on their face. Try it sometime. You have to have great balance to play those pedals while you are paying attention to your hands and the part they are playing! These guys are not human.
Good reaction. Masterful performance. P.S. Ground loops are a major cause of noise, hum, and interference in audio, video, and computer systems. Wiring practices that protect against ground loops include ensuring that all vulnerable signal circuits are referenced to one point as ground.
@@gnrtradepro Yeah. It's been a nuisance. We have lights, wires all over the ground going in to a mixing board, a guitar amp, 14 guitar pedals run off 2 power supplies and can lights in the ceiling. It's a lot. We just switched to wireless mics and we think there is very little noise. Also going to test out going to wireless headphones. We also will start using better lighting starting tomorrow with 2112. Which means I can turn off the can lights in the ceiling.
@@GetSidewaysReacts I have had the same issue. I cant always find a separate ac circuit, or get everything on the same ground point. Something like the Behringer HD400 helps about 80% of the time.
Thx for the video, and allowing the audience to enjoy this great band with your reactions, and not ruining it w/constant interruptions to "analyze" it,and saving your comments till the end and that was very cool to share the blast from the past, enjoyed that also
We have to worry about copyright strikes, that's why reactors stop videos and talk. Lately we haven't been doing that and we'll probably have our videos taken down as a result.
.......cleaning weapons on ship while waiting to deploy........adrenaline is pumping............and this is blasting in our ship's quarters................its amazing how music can take you right to an exact time place and feeling.........good tune......bad memories......
Yeah, I do know the feeling. So many of their songs "transport" me back to various deployments, duty stations, & rescue missions as a U.S. Marine. glad to see more generations getting to know these great musicians. Thanks for your service too. Best regards.

Hemispheres was my first experience with Rush, after Tom Sawyer and then Power Windows. I liked Power Windows and EVERYONE like Tom Sawyer. It was shortly after Power Windows Came out and a friend at school put Hemispheres on his turntable.... Blew me away.
Like this comment if you watched long enough to see MCA+ play this song on guitar in 1990 when he was 20.
But I could only take like 20 seconds.........I'm sorry.....
@@spacecowboy_1962 lol
And yes you were a little fast lol
You did a commendable job on a very difficult track! I watched the whole thing! Your drummer was quite excellent as well!
No offense, but I was more impressed with your drummer.
Thank you CANADA for giving the us the greatest band in the world!!!!! RUSH FOREVER !!!!!!
THEE MASTERS!
@@eventhorizon2218 WE THANK THEM OVER HERE BUT WE SURE THEY ALIENS AHAHAHHA ROCK ON !!! \m/
Possibly Alex's finest lead/solo. He makes the notes feel like they're trying to fight to get out, and then gradually build up to a torrent! Amazing!
My favorite instrumental not only by Rush but all time. Absolute masterpiece!!
“Poodle-Perm Alex” = Rush at their absolute artistic peak. *Hemispheres* was flawless. Epic. A perfect achievement.
It’s been one year to the day since we lost Neil Peart. I’m utterly sad today.

I've been sad all year

"An *Exercise* in Self-Indulgence".
@@JaredDoyle76 I stand corrected, thank you!
Rickenbacker bass has such an awesome sound. Trademark Geddy Lee
Xanadu from Exit stage left should be next I guess!!!!
The greatest 3 piece rock band in history, contest
Watch Working man live in Cleveland...
We did working man. I can’t remember which concert it was
@@GetSidewaysReacts 😊 but you haven’t done their masterpiece yet! 2112...please do the official cartoon version, epic❗️
We did. Tried to release it today but it was blocked by UA-cam
2112 released this morning!

I can barely play the guitar, how would I add pedals? lol

Are you referring to the mics or the guitar? I assume the mics. We’ve switched to wireless after this and the noise has gone way down.
@@GetSidewaysReacts Mics i think. A constant hum, which would drop when you spoke.

The Slinger land drum set...coated shells.

When asked how it felt to be the best rock and roll guitarist ever he said, "I don't know. You'd have to ask Alex Lifeson."
Neil Peart's mustache was so big it had its own zip code back in this era!
Alex owned that ES-335 like SRV owned his Strat.

Hi from Brasil! Sugestion: "Xanadu", "Red Barchetta" and "Freewill", the live videos for the show "Exit: Stage Left"!
We recorded Xanadu last week. It should be released next week. However we didn’t do live version.
@@GetSidewaysReacts No problem, but it's a shame: there is a general consensus that this live version is MUCH superior to the studio version ... ;)
I miss Neil.
Great song. One of the most iconic Rush songs of all time. A whole lot of nothing in your reaction.
Notice Alex playing the synth pedals with his feet while playing lead guitar? Need to make a video? Just play it live and record it :-)
I did. So used to seeing Geddy do it but they both were in this video!
Your compression or something is screwing with sound. Sounds Weird
Yeah, something is going on
Good try but NOT😂
