I can't believe I shot one of these in my video with Gunny. WOW. At the time I knew it was rare, but had no idea how rare it really was. I don't know that I would even want to touch it had I known! It was in *immaculate* shape
I own an 1876 Winchester Uberti clone which allows you to shoot this amazing rifle without worry of damaging an original. Awesome rifle. I would choose this rifle over an AR platform for defense every time, if I could only have one.
This gun was purchased in 1879 by my Great Great Grandfather. It is .45-60 he purchased 2 of them with consecutive serial numbers I have the original sales receipt for it . Purchased in San Francisco While returning home to Carmel he was held up by an outlaw gang. They took this rifle which was in the front of the wagon and shot him with this rifle. He survived but they fleed with this rifle one of the outlaws was captured and hung but the rifle was never found. Not really sure how it ended up in the Lee collection? In one book it says it was given to a neighbor which isn't correct.
Not only is this incredible provenance, but wouldn't the gun still be)long to your family, with the receipt?? (i.e. like stolen and confiscated Nazi art??)
Final sale price $891,250.
If it’s one of one thousand you know many people will bid heavily on it. IMO
I'd expect the bidding to START at about $300,000.00. While I'm sure the bidding will be intense I'm not sure how many bidders will be involved at that kind of price point.
I like the carbon fiber suit.
I noticed that too, along with only decaffinanted coffee !!!!!
I may have missed it in the video, what year was this rifle manufactured?
The factory letter shows it was originally received in the warehouse November 22, 1879.
Rock Island Auction Company wow what a survivor, i can only dream. Hopefully this rifle is well cared for.
If you look in the LEWIS book the pictures of this gun look no where near as pristine?
Really Nice Winchester 😀👍🏼 What Caliber 44/40 ?
Chris Chiampo: I think it’s actually 45/60 because the 1876 Winchester was known to use the .45/60 cartridge when it came out in 1876 but it probably was chambered in .44/40 but the 1876 was chambered for much powerful cartridges than .44/40.
But Rock Island Auction company, can correct me if I’m wrong.
Andrew Dalton Ray Did You Mean 45/70 😀
the first 1876 was 45-75 the 50-95ex and 45-60 came in 1879 and 40-60 in 1884
Chris Chiampo its chambered in 45-60
