This is called Backmasking.. Sadly we are getting to know about this just now.. It's very much present since the 70s and predominantly the rock, metal and gore musicians used to convey the message in their music through this backmasking technique..

Backmasking: (1) when played finally for the audience, it will be in reverse. (2) can be heard (3) is deliberately left in the audio as secret messages.
Here (1) when played back for audience, it’s not in reverse... it appears forward (2) it’s just a reverse lip sync - they don’t use the audio. Nothing to be heard (3) There seem to be no secret messages even in the reverse script

It’s a great topic suggestion... my first guess is that it is similar to “sit stand sit stand” game. Suddenly they say “sit sit” twice... you mess up and you stand. Tongue twisters are made of similar sounds. For example “s” and “sh” are close enough in our minds. “She sells sea shells on the sea shore”, would cause us to trip because the two are similar but not same. We mix up things that are similar... because we are under pressure to distinguish the fine differences between two similar things at a fast pace.

Because the cloth is flying towards him, and he catches it... so it looks as if it is actually a RELEASE of a cloth which has been filmed and edited to play in reverse... No you are not alone... it’s quite easy to miss techniques in a production, even film analysts can miss it if watching for fun, casually (without analytical mind turned on).

Ah... good point! I was in fact thinking, "couldn't they have used a deepfake forward-speaking face of Kamal on top of the reversed Kamal face quietly doing the cloth action?" But they won't... Kamal has done reverse speaking before... He LOVES reverse speaking... I fell in love with reverse speaking myself as a child, when I saw someone singing in reverse - just a creative home video by a private individual. Then loved it even more when Neela Vaanam came out. I think some people just love doing it. I don't think they WANT to be replaced by A.I. I mean, what's left, as an actor? Where's the fun or sense of achievement?

What is the purpose for this reverse shooting?
To have a poetic flowing continuity of the scene... the cloth must magically fly towards him, cover him, and the camera must move on to show his face... that is possible only if he talks in reverse.

@ananthakrishnan2935 it is one continuous shot. If the cloth is in reverse, the mouth movement will also be in reverse. And so mouth movement will not match the dubbed voice. To match it, he must practice the reverse mouth movement!
