    Actually, the reason the guitar is shipped without the end pin installed is to avoid damage to the end block should the guitar be dropped on its butt in transit.

      That's the reason it's not on the guitar when it's shipped.

    Awesome video,Brett. I bought the 00-15M in March of 2022. I am 65 years old and have spinal issues into my neck and the size allows me to play more comfortably, longer. Love this Martin Guitar! Thanks again for the video.

    Just bought one used out of Allen Park, MI Guitar Center. Trying to feel good about spending $1043.28 on a guitar. That is to say, it has taken me playing cheap guitars for 28 years. Feels pretty good though. Pretty smooth. Today was a good day.

    Great review!!
    I just bought this guitar.. Thanks so much for the analysis about the action. I just had a DRS1 adjusted to lower the action, and it makes a huge difference. I anticipate doing what you did as i am mainly a strummer but also think this guitar will enable me to learn more finger style techniques.

    Just bought this one. Was a little surprised to hear your decision to raise the action. After hearing your thoughts on it and the way you were able to strum, I may have to do it. Good review. Subscribed.

    just an FYI the 15 is the series, the 000 or D are body shapes, meaning the D-15M and the 000-15M are different body shapes.

    After much research I just bought this guitar for myself, here in Melbourne Australia. It's slightly more expensive here, at $1550, but no pics or videos do it justice. It's just beautiful and I was lucky enough to get a particularly nicely/evenly finished one. Of the handful of these I checked out in my area, the one I chose has little flames/marbles right through the wood which is an unusual characteristic for mahogany. Love the aesthetics, love the sound, the neck/sizing a work well for my small hands and I favour quiet fingerstyle playing so it's just about perfect. I would love to see a version with an ebony fretboard, saddle and headstock overlay, and plain black pickguard. The vintage tuners are great too.

      @BrettStewart75  10 років тому

      Glad to hear your investment is serving you well! It would be interesting to see a slightly more vamped up version of the guitar - but I can't help but think that it would also remove the simplistic look that the guitar works so well! Since you have a quieter, fingerpicking style, this guitar will be a perfect fit for you, and you won't have to raise the action so high like I did. Enjoy!

    Not a bad review. Great playing. Two things though:
    1) The DRS1 (mahogany) and DRS2 (hog back and sides, Sitka top) are all solid wood Martins made in Mexico (sometimes) that are under $800 US.
    2) Maybe it was a repeated slip of tongue or I'm just an ignoramus, but you said 000-D15M a few times. I think that's two models combined. One is a D-15M or straight D-15 (dread) the other is a 000-15 or 000-15M.
    Keep up the good work!

    john frusciante plays a 1930s 0-15m, wich is smaller and he strums it fairly HARD.
    it sounds perfect. I feel like hog tops are more forgiving when strummed hard and will still sound nice.

    • @BrettStewart75
      @BrettStewart75  9 років тому +1

      +ThEiLLtechNICIAN Absolutely - You can definitely strum harder on a smaller guitar. In fact, I've reduced the action quite a bit since this was shot as I got more used to the guitar. If you are a perfectionist that wants zero buzz, however, as I was when this was shot, you may very well need to bring that action up. I agree they still sound nice when strummed hard!

    I'm planning to buy this guitar, and I've played many times. In different stores to make that it's the right guitar for me. In some of them I thought the guitar a little bit hard to play, I mean the strings seemed tense. what do you suggest me to do? And I didn't understand really well about setting up the guitar..if I raise the action of this guitar It sounds like the guitar will be even harder to play
    Thank you

    • @BrettStewart75
      @BrettStewart75  10 років тому

      Well, in the store, the guitar should be very easy to play for you, because these guitars typically have a very low action when they're out of the factory. Unless the store has raised the action... which seems very unlikely. You're right, raising it would make it even more difficult to play, and you should only do it if you're like myself and require a stiffer guitar for a harder playing style. In all honestly, at this price range, if the guitar isn't comfortable for you, find one that is!

    • @Rachels123
      @Rachels123 9 років тому +1

      +Brett Stewart buy a guitar with a shorter scale. That is the best way to make it easier to play. Martin makes the same guitar as this one, but it has a short scale it's the 000-15sm.

    • @BrettStewart75

      It stays in tune well - I don't mess with tunings much - only occasionally dropping into drop D or C. The tuning mechanics are top notch, though.

    Was wondering about your' 'humidity' comments in relation to the 'weather' in my house in the winter: about 50°F (read Cold) and high humidity. Love this guitar, hope I can get my daughter to transport one here to the south of France from Boston (they cost the equivalent of $2000 here in France). see you, thanks.

    • @BrettStewart75
      @BrettStewart75  10 років тому

      Hi there - Yes, monitoring humidity and humidifying this guitar is incredibly important, and needs to be taken care of. Normally, when its cold in the winter, humidity drops, and you need to humidify the guitar more - but if it is humid, you may not need to. Getting a hygrometer is a good way to tell - Monitor the humidity of the guitar in its case - If it's between 30 percent and 60, that's a good place for it to be. In most cases, you may need to add a humidifier to get it there. Also, keeping it in its case with the humidifier is much better than keeping it out on a stand or a wall. Hope that helps! Make sure your daughter travels with a very sturdy hard case!

    Very nice review! Do you plan to install a pickup or mic in it? If so, which one?

    • @BrettStewart75
      @BrettStewart75  10 років тому

      John Peter Campos Hello - Yes, I absolutely do intend to do so in the future. I have a preference to the LR Baggs pickups - They include a microphone and a regular pick up that you can switch between which in turn gives you much greater control over your sound. As of right now I just snap in a Dean Markley pickup which suits my purposes well.

      +Brett Stewart Sorry for not repyling earlier! I have a 2014 0000-15M. I installed lr baggs lyric in it. I like it a lot but I wish I could afford the k&k quantum trinity system.

  • @dreamofshrooms
    @dreamofshrooms 10 років тому +2

    I see you prefer strumming to fingerpicking with that aggressive and rapid dynamic change Dylan style, why didn't you just buy the dreadnaught then and save the trouble of raising the action? Great review btw

    • @BrettStewart75
      @BrettStewart75  10 років тому

      Thanks for watching! The reason I opted for this guitar instead of the dreadnaught was because I love the style of this guitar, in comparison to its dreadnaught counterpart. I love the small, early 1960's style - It was worth raising the action to get that style, for me personally. Even on a dreadnaught I still would have had to raise it for my playing style. Maybe not as much, but it would have been done regardless.

      There's a machine at Martin that makes it perfect, I don't think you want to change the action,

    • @BrettStewart75
      @BrettStewart75  8 років тому

      Perfection is subjective - Martin makes it 'perfect' for a specific playing style. It may not be perfect for every player. For the first year or so of myself owning this guitar, I had the action pretty high. It served me particularly well, and I ultimately lowered it back when it suited a different style I was performing in.

    so, why cant you put lighter strings on the guitar after the action is raised?

    • @BrettStewart75
      @BrettStewart75  9 років тому

      +Rachel Woodruff The tension won't hold and it'll fall out of tune, likely. A higher action pulls harder on the strings, hence the need for a thicker gauge.

  • @tomformanek3312
    @tomformanek3312 2 роки тому

    Laminate is real wood glued together and compressed. It still smells like mahogany.
    The top is more likely to split whatever the back and sides are made of because it is the most fragile wood on the instrument. Always humidify.
    The 000-15m is NOT a short scale neck.
    There is no more string buzz on one body style compared to any other. All guitars need a proper set up (and humidity) performed by someone who knows what he/she is doing based on your string preference.
    This is not a D15. The D15 is D for dreadnaught. This is an orchestra sized model, also known as auditorium size.
    Shoot your script-writer. Lol

    It’s a 000-15M not a D15. 000 signifies an auditorium guitar, referencing the size. You also need to get that strat from leaning off it’s neck unless you want to keep adjusting that neck- there’s a lot of strain on it the way it’s positioned. Also, you picked the wrong guitar if you want to beat on it, play “vigorously” on a dreadnought, and finger style on the 000-15. Also, the action on my Hummingbird is low and I can play it “vigorously” without any problem- why can’t you?
