- My review of the Martin 000-15M guitar from Martin's D15 series. If you enjoyed this review, or found it helpful, please let me know! It'll help me determine how to guide future episodes of this new show. Please feel free to leave any questions in comments, as always.
Actually, the reason the guitar is shipped without the end pin installed is to avoid damage to the end block should the guitar be dropped on its butt in transit.
That's the reason it's not on the guitar when it's shipped.
Dude this is an awesome review. You're very informed and talk very informatively. Well done.
Awesome video,Brett. I bought the 00-15M in March of 2022. I am 65 years old and have spinal issues into my neck and the size allows me to play more comfortably, longer. Love this Martin Guitar! Thanks again for the video.
I have looked extensively, but have never found bells or whistles on my guitar either.
Great video man. Don't know what's going on with the negative feedback lol. Very informative and straightforward. Might get one of these thanks to u!
Just bought one used out of Allen Park, MI Guitar Center. Trying to feel good about spending $1043.28 on a guitar. That is to say, it has taken me playing cheap guitars for 28 years. Feels pretty good though. Pretty smooth. Today was a good day.
Great review!!
I just bought this guitar.. Thanks so much for the analysis about the action. I just had a DRS1 adjusted to lower the action, and it makes a huge difference. I anticipate doing what you did as i am mainly a strummer but also think this guitar will enable me to learn more finger style techniques.
Thank you for such a great review and touching on a number of points
that were questions that I needed answers too .
After watching this great review I've decided to go with the D-15M instead.
I've got one and I love it you won't go wrong buying it
Oh also, nice review. You are a natural kid. Hope your still doing some kind of broadcast/production work 10 years later. Thanks again!
Well done.Very informative .Good particulars pointed out.
Nice review young man....and it's nice to see someone your age that appreciates Dylan etc......I have a 00-15 that I love......the notes don't jump out like spruce but they sustain forever.....good job....
Just bought this one. Was a little surprised to hear your decision to raise the action. After hearing your thoughts on it and the way you were able to strum, I may have to do it. Good review. Subscribed.
just an FYI the 15 is the series, the 000 or D are body shapes, meaning the D-15M and the 000-15M are different body shapes.
After much research I just bought this guitar for myself, here in Melbourne Australia. It's slightly more expensive here, at $1550, but no pics or videos do it justice. It's just beautiful and I was lucky enough to get a particularly nicely/evenly finished one. Of the handful of these I checked out in my area, the one I chose has little flames/marbles right through the wood which is an unusual characteristic for mahogany. Love the aesthetics, love the sound, the neck/sizing a work well for my small hands and I favour quiet fingerstyle playing so it's just about perfect. I would love to see a version with an ebony fretboard, saddle and headstock overlay, and plain black pickguard. The vintage tuners are great too.
Glad to hear your investment is serving you well! It would be interesting to see a slightly more vamped up version of the guitar - but I can't help but think that it would also remove the simplistic look that the guitar works so well! Since you have a quieter, fingerpicking style, this guitar will be a perfect fit for you, and you won't have to raise the action so high like I did. Enjoy!
Not a bad review. Great playing. Two things though:
1) The DRS1 (mahogany) and DRS2 (hog back and sides, Sitka top) are all solid wood Martins made in Mexico (sometimes) that are under $800 US.
2) Maybe it was a repeated slip of tongue or I'm just an ignoramus, but you said 000-D15M a few times. I think that's two models combined. One is a D-15M or straight D-15 (dread) the other is a 000-15 or 000-15M.
Keep up the good work!
john frusciante plays a 1930s 0-15m, wich is smaller and he strums it fairly HARD.
it sounds perfect. I feel like hog tops are more forgiving when strummed hard and will still sound nice.
+ThEiLLtechNICIAN Absolutely - You can definitely strum harder on a smaller guitar. In fact, I've reduced the action quite a bit since this was shot as I got more used to the guitar. If you are a perfectionist that wants zero buzz, however, as I was when this was shot, you may very well need to bring that action up. I agree they still sound nice when strummed hard!
+ThEiLLtechNICIAN i love john frusciante
+altertheskyy1 my favorite guitarist.
Great review
Best OOO-15M review. Young great guitarist telling it like it is!! With I expect no endorsement money coloring his opinion. Refreshing!!!
Brett. Thank you so much. You are one of the most incredible people I have listened to. Your presentation is impressive. Anyone who wants to purchase a guitar should listen to you. Your music is also wonderful to listen to. God Bless This planet needs more people like you Sir.
The best thing about this video is that I came here on a journey that started out with "Fare Thee Well" and low and behold he starts playing it.
Claire Schabacker Hah, that's amazing!
Claire Schabacker me too! 😉
Thanks so much, Brett! I've been wanting to make this my next Martin and your review was very helpful! Great job and much appreciated! All the best!
Hi Brett....Thanks for a great review, very informative and comprehensive.
Old video but I enjoyed it. Thanks
Very nice review I just got my first Martin last month and I love it it's a dreadnought but I still like looking up reviews on other guitars and I enjoyed this review! : ) oh and I laughed when u smelled the sound hole of your guitar because I do that too! Martin guitars smell so good
TheCerealKing1 Don't they?!! Good to know I'm not crazy! So glad to hear you enjoyed the review and even more glad to hear you're enjoying your Martin. Thanks for watching!
Great review and video. Very well said, especially the Ferrari part. Genius
Good review, young man, and nice songs!
Great review Sir! Bravo!
you're good:-)! thanks for mentioning things like the styles that are actually usual for guitars like this, that's really helpfull!!
Flurin José Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
Your voice is phenomenal.
Thats not why the strap button is unattached...high end guitars never ship with the bottom button in
. The reason is the block the button is attached to inside can crack if dropped in shipping.......all high end guitars come with the button unattached
you have an old soul, in a good way of course...
I lowered the action from the factory spec and put on extra lights
I like this kid - found his video entertaining and a good representation of how the guitar sounds and I have the same playing style. I'm looking at this model to fill a void left by my childhood Harmony Model 165 that my little sister smacked into a beam and destroyed (after watching the "El- Kabong" cartoon... look it up) Lol!
Great review , the best I have seen . Many Thanks
Glad it helped, my pleasure!
Really great review, man. Very well done.
I have the 00-15 M and it’s awesome (definitely scratches and dings easy).
I'm planning to buy this guitar, and I've played many times. In different stores to make that it's the right guitar for me. In some of them I thought the guitar a little bit hard to play, I mean the strings seemed tense. what do you suggest me to do? And I didn't understand really well about setting up the guitar..if I raise the action of this guitar It sounds like the guitar will be even harder to play
Thank you
Well, in the store, the guitar should be very easy to play for you, because these guitars typically have a very low action when they're out of the factory. Unless the store has raised the action... which seems very unlikely. You're right, raising it would make it even more difficult to play, and you should only do it if you're like myself and require a stiffer guitar for a harder playing style. In all honestly, at this price range, if the guitar isn't comfortable for you, find one that is!
+Brett Stewart buy a guitar with a shorter scale. That is the best way to make it easier to play. Martin makes the same guitar as this one, but it has a short scale it's the 000-15sm.
Nice review, fuck the haters, love the guitar
Thank you very much for this review. What can you tell me about this guitar's tuning?
It stays in tune well - I don't mess with tunings much - only occasionally dropping into drop D or C. The tuning mechanics are top notch, though.
Was wondering about your' 'humidity' comments in relation to the 'weather' in my house in the winter: about 50°F (read Cold) and high humidity. Love this guitar, hope I can get my daughter to transport one here to the south of France from Boston (they cost the equivalent of $2000 here in France). see you, thanks.
Hi there - Yes, monitoring humidity and humidifying this guitar is incredibly important, and needs to be taken care of. Normally, when its cold in the winter, humidity drops, and you need to humidify the guitar more - but if it is humid, you may not need to. Getting a hygrometer is a good way to tell - Monitor the humidity of the guitar in its case - If it's between 30 percent and 60, that's a good place for it to be. In most cases, you may need to add a humidifier to get it there. Also, keeping it in its case with the humidifier is much better than keeping it out on a stand or a wall. Hope that helps! Make sure your daughter travels with a very sturdy hard case!
Brett Stewart
thanks so much. ... planning on getting a case from casextreme dot com
Very nice review! Do you plan to install a pickup or mic in it? If so, which one?
John Peter Campos Hello - Yes, I absolutely do intend to do so in the future. I have a preference to the LR Baggs pickups - They include a microphone and a regular pick up that you can switch between which in turn gives you much greater control over your sound. As of right now I just snap in a Dean Markley pickup which suits my purposes well.
+Brett Stewart Sorry for not repyling earlier! I have a 2014 0000-15M. I installed lr baggs lyric in it. I like it a lot but I wish I could afford the k&k quantum trinity system.
I see you prefer strumming to fingerpicking with that aggressive and rapid dynamic change Dylan style, why didn't you just buy the dreadnaught then and save the trouble of raising the action? Great review btw
Thanks for watching! The reason I opted for this guitar instead of the dreadnaught was because I love the style of this guitar, in comparison to its dreadnaught counterpart. I love the small, early 1960's style - It was worth raising the action to get that style, for me personally. Even on a dreadnaught I still would have had to raise it for my playing style. Maybe not as much, but it would have been done regardless.
Brett Stewart
Yeah i get what you're saying I also prefer smaller body guitars for aesthetic reasons.
It's smaller than the average Dreadnought because it is NOT a Dreadnought... 000 is a completely different size. Shallower and with a narrower waist line.
very good thanks
good review. didnt know that about action height.
There's a machine at Martin that makes it perfect, I don't think you want to change the action,
Perfection is subjective - Martin makes it 'perfect' for a specific playing style. It may not be perfect for every player. For the first year or so of myself owning this guitar, I had the action pretty high. It served me particularly well, and I ultimately lowered it back when it suited a different style I was performing in.
Mic at the twelfth fret and you won’t need to compress.
thanks, Brett..wonderfully thorough and clear even for someone who knows virtually nothing about the technicalities of guitar structure and performance. good job!
anitazuck My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Great review. Really enjoyed. Can you do a review on a Martin OM 21?
Good review young man
so, why cant you put lighter strings on the guitar after the action is raised?
+Rachel Woodruff The tension won't hold and it'll fall out of tune, likely. A higher action pulls harder on the strings, hence the need for a thicker gauge.
Laminate is real wood glued together and compressed. It still smells like mahogany.
The top is more likely to split whatever the back and sides are made of because it is the most fragile wood on the instrument. Always humidify.
The 000-15m is NOT a short scale neck.
There is no more string buzz on one body style compared to any other. All guitars need a proper set up (and humidity) performed by someone who knows what he/she is doing based on your string preference.
This is not a D15. The D15 is D for dreadnaught. This is an orchestra sized model, also known as auditorium size.
Shoot your script-writer. Lol
who shat in your shoe?
Move on
Does anyone know the exact name of the case that the guitar comes with?
Classic Music Covers
It’s the Martin C330 case.
You sir have gained a new subscriber.
I’ll go with a D15 M low action
Where is the sound?
I just bought one. Would you recon a K&K trinity pro systems, LR Baggs anthem or Fishman Infinity for this? Help! :)
I'd recommend the Anthem. It's an incredibly good system. Make sure you get it set up properly with the microphone on the inside. It's excellent to have both the pick-up and the mic. (You can even mix them, if I remember correctly.)
Hay thanks. Any opinions about LR Baggs Lyrics for this? Its becoming a tough decision. :-) thanks
Sorry for my delayed response! LR Baggs Lyrics is an excellent piece of hardware. I'd highly recommend it.
Very Good!
what song did you begin playing at 8:30?
+Jacob Lawlis That was just me noodling, it looks like. Perhaps a hint of 'This Old Guitar' by John Denver, but it seems more like me just playing random notes, hah!
That was a good review.
Great review, but very hard to hear audio, had to hold the phone speaker right next to my ear
mctruckdriver
Always use headphones.
Great review! You look and sound a bit like Flea from the chili peppers :D
bells are for churches and whistles are for steam trains...
It’s a 000-15M not a D15. 000 signifies an auditorium guitar, referencing the size. You also need to get that strat from leaning off it’s neck unless you want to keep adjusting that neck- there’s a lot of strain on it the way it’s positioned. Also, you picked the wrong guitar if you want to beat on it, play “vigorously” on a dreadnought, and finger style on the 000-15. Also, the action on my Hummingbird is low and I can play it “vigorously” without any problem- why can’t you?
Hey man! Nice review, it's so cool that you are in Colorado! I was born in Colorado but have been living in Seattle for the last 4 years. I started a UA-cam Channel specializing in instrument reviews. I would love to get your feedback. I want to get better.
EUR 1750,- here ...... :(
I got it for USD 1750 in Malaysia.
did he said 1200??? omg i wish 😂
Fake it till you make it 🤦🏼
Nothing is on the lower end of a Martin.
