He still plays good sets, the genres changed from epic breakdowns to not really building and jumping straight into a breakdown, which isnt what i enjoyed about trance of old !
I think that he is still the same as before, only that times have changed and the music with him :/

Seen him At Cream In SWG Glasgow on boxing Day. Still Belts out the Classics

This is when PVD was untouchable. Was miles better than Tiesto etc etc. Nobody banged it out like Van Dyk.

Downloaded this set over Limewire! back in 2003-2004 and it blew my mind back then and it still do in 2014! Great stuff!

I have listened to this set probably at least 500 times in its eternity. Back when mainstream trance was my favorite genre, this set was my favorite mainstream trance :)
People seem to chose between Tiesto and PvD. They were both fantastic DJs in the day.
For me this one is the best performance of PvD ever. How it starts hard and progressively and slowly without you noticing it he takes you into dreamland with melodic and hypnotic spherical sounds. The composition of the set, how he builds tension, releases pressure, plays with us. Magic that makes you fly.
He most certainly was a master of his craft at that point.
I downloaded this 10 years ago, and even now still listen to it on a regular basis. Great set.

I got hold of it about 5/6 years ago in an obscure corner of the filesharing underworld - when UA-cam videos were still limited to 10 minutes and there were no DJ sets at all to be found there. It's hard to praise it too highly. It's a landmark recording that has now been heard by many millions of people (along with Tiesto's Cream set from the same summer, I'm guessing it's the most widely heard trance DJ set ever) and every minute of it is special to me. Nothing can top the "Y.O.U./I'm Alone/Nothing But You" section from 1:35:00 - 1:50:00.

I fully agree with you in this point. I was down there in 2002 and it was the greatest Paul van Dyk Set I've ever listened to. The Trance of Today is not half as pushing as in the past.
I wish to someday get to a party like that. I love these Nu NRG Tracks most...they are unreached! I got the possibility to hear NU NRG at Nature One, I think it was in 2003 or 2004 - great piece of Trance Set! Nowadays the hole electronic music has become too slow and is not pushing me at all :(
Yeah - this is one of the best live mixes I've ever heard. So many absolute classics that take me right back to that 2002/03 era. I've listened to it so many times that even the radio guy's voiceovers are an integral part of it for me.
The final half hour takes it to another level entirely, and "I'm Alone" is the pinnacle of the whole set. I get misty-eyed listening to it. Wish I could go back in time and live it for real.

I come from back in the day when the likes of Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, early Vangelis and sundry other obscure electronic types were doing their niche thing. I'm now into my late fifties and equally loving the evolution of the electronic sound just as much as I do those who paved the way in my era.
As a consequence I'm now considered to be an oddity amongst my peers. But then who gives a flying f**K what my fellow fossils think cos' I'm far too lost in the sound of trance to care!

I went the year after ,was pvd Tiësto ,picotto ,oakenfold at creams birthday ,heaven is the only way to describe it ,then I went every year after and saw the rise of Eddie .pvd and Eddie halliwell are the best trance djs ever imo.
PVD , AVB . Matt hardwick , Scott bond had a lot of top nights when they were on .
That were the Epic Times of Trance can´t find sounds like this anymore in clubs whole over the world....
This takes me back. PVD was just superb at all events I attended.. Saw him punch a guy at the Don Valley Stadium (Gatecrashers) in Sheffield, totally warranted as the guy climbed the rigging and stopped PVD from being able to start his set for about a half hour. 24999 people all clapped when the guy got booted out. Great night too old for that now but the memories he has left are priceless.
