the idiot who brought the cake of explosives into the yard, and thought it would be fun to set it off while a three year old played upstairs. Hope he survives, and remembers this the rest of his days.
So needless. People need to make wiser decisions and think about the permanent consequences of their actions. I hope many are held accountable for their deadly actions.
The State of Hawaii could bring negligent homicide charges in criminal court. But I doubt that Governor Joshua Green has the balls to do that. Wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits could be brought in civil court. That's a lot more likely than a criminal case.
Hope the families and friends can find some peace after this nightmare. Right at 2:00 you can see the catastrophe starting, but somebody ran straight to it hoping to help, truly a hero.
The carelessness is truly heartbreaking. I spent 2020 in the neighborhood that blows up and I’ll never be in a neighborhood like that again during the holiday. And I lived in a coffee shack, so I felt and heard every explosion like it was amplified. My pets broke through the back door and left, luckily they came back the next day. Must’ve found a cave to hide in. I would’ve liked to have hid with them.
When the state banned consumer fireworks like sparklers and fountains, the demand for fireworks didn’t disappear; people simply turned to dangerous black market alternatives. The best way to prevent individuals from purchasing these hazardous explosives is to provide Hawaii with safer options by allowing consumer-grade fireworks and permitting firecrackers without having to buy permits. The more money people spend on fountains, ground spinners, and sparklers, the less money they will have to spend on powerful dangerous illegal aerial fireworks.
So who’s home was this in? Theirs or their neighbors? Such a horrible tragedy that could have been prevented. I hope the people who owned these fireworks are jailed for a long timr
I lived in Oahu, Hawaii for 6 yrs, it’s been like that celebrating New years eve, they go all out with the fireworks, because of senseless tragedy people in Hawaii will comply to the new rules and regulations for safety’s sake‼️🙏🙏🙏Condolence to the families affected by this, Rest in Peace to all the victims🙏🙏💐🌺🌷🌼🌻‼️
They and their friends bought illegal fireworks. They light it up and everything went into flame blowing up all the fireworks at them. They did it to themselves. Nothing sad to see here lmao

They were all there to blow up some fireworks. The ones they had could very well have been classified as improvised bombs. Lets think long and hard next year what kind of fireworks we buy.
Whether or not legal, these incidents won’t stop until the community stops these people. Thousands can die, but law enforcement can’t stop this. Only neighbors ratting out neighbors will curb these fireworks.
Family members and relatives.maybe? And oh,maybe some of those 18 got injured? Because i dont think neighbors or strangers will lit a cake set up fireworks in their yard and next to their garage full of another set of fireworks ready for the next set
Did they know there was a lot of illegal fireworks at that house? Did they know the safety and why they went there? Did police find the person who purchased that amount of fireworks must take.?
The folks who lost their lives don’t exactly seem like the ones who would be involved in purchasing and stockpiling these illegal fireworks. Which makes this tragedy even sadder. I hope they find the ones who are and hold them accountable!
Gotta be their relatives.they're all gathering but since some of the heavy duty fireworks are stored in the garage waiting for the next set, suddenly got lit too while the firework cake set-up fell down poiting to the garage.and those females usually sitting close to those that got hit more. Gotta be some of those MEN from 18 injured, are a family member and relatives that probably purchased this fireworks and they store it alltogether for the new yeara eve.
I have lived on all 4 of the major islands; I currently live on Kauai. I love the fireworks out here, and nothing ushers in the New Year better than a bunch of aerial fireworks at midnight, but people need to be safe and smart. People say fireworks are dangerous. Surfing can be dangerous, SCUBA diving can be dangerous, hiking can be dangerous, there would be no car accidents if there were no cars, and there would be fewer accidents if cars could only go 30mph. How much are you willing to trade in for the sake of safety? I accept that planet earth is a fairly dangerous place, and I would much rather approach risky activities intelligently than ban everything that has a risk. With regard to fireworks, we are talking about two events per year. We don’t need to ban fireworks, people just need to use better judgement.
I always laugh when people try to justify "danger" by listing out day to day activities that could perhaps be dangerous. For one you cant compare necessity to leisure. You pretty much need a car in this day and age to earn a living and they're built to certain safety standards. You also need a drivers license to drive and you need a certification to scuba dive. Thousands of untrained people/kids popping chinese gun powder on the same night is asking for trouble, whether its a malfunction or user error. Aerials are illegal for a reason, hiking and surfing are not. People also seem to have no respect and will set them off any day of the year at any hour, at least where I am.
How do we justify Lahaina burning down - what possibly could have been banned to prevent Lahaina burning down - ELECTRICITY - how do we debate on these matters- unfortunately lives been lost in both events - prayers to all - 🙏🕊️🌈🌺
