    The only open-world fatigue I feel is from games like what Ubisoft makes. Rockstar makes the best kind of open-world games and I always find myself going back to them and playing them for years. I feel that they are masters at what they do.

    This is trash. I'll take a well made single player experience over some multiplayer game any damn day.
    Games like this can you teach you things, even or especially about yourself. They can make you see things differently and help you grow as a person, just like paintings, a novel or a film. Multiplayer cant really do that at this time. There will always be a market for this type of singleplayer experience. Us gamers from yesteryear aren't going anywhere, we're just growing up, and with that we seek games that say something, games that give us something to think about.

    I just want to put out a disclaimer/announcement: Mark Brown does NOT speak for me or anyone else in the gaming community that loves open-world gaming and cant get enough of it. I do NOT have open-world fatigue whatsoever, in fact, I wish there were more! I hate journalists and social media influencers that try to spin things, impose their negative feelings about a subject, and assume everyone feels the same. NEWS FLASH: you're wrong Mr. Mark Brown and please don't use pronouns "we" and "you" as if the larger gaming population is on board with these sentiments and the momentum is slightly shifting for game design. Nope! Open world gaming is awesome and I can chase collectibles for a dozen more games. People always want to complain and gripe about something. Leave Rockstar alone and allow them to make billions of dollars while still thinking like an indie developer despite their enormous success. They make great games with a lot of depth and value and we need to encourage this, not discourage Mr. Marky Mark ;).

    • @B3astMass
      @B3astMass 6 років тому +6

      He’s perfectly fine to say open-world fatigue maybe a problem. It’s obviously short sighted, considering it’s a Rockstar game it’s sales are probably equal to an African nations GDP , but it’s something to consider. It’s quite an unfocused game design when it comes to narrative, generally speaking and they take more energy to play as they’re more time consuming, it won’t be long before a new trend standard becomes the new basis of video games, just like FPS were in the 7th generation. Look at the style of games that were coming out after COD 4, they were got overly saturated, the market evolved and moved on. It’s not just a media spin.

    • @Jack_______oh
      @Jack_______oh 5 років тому +2

      Open worlds are just the inevitable way games will be. Even just small open worlds like Shadow of War. They're better in just about every way.
      The problem is Ubisoft's design choices and how how influential/widespread they are. Luckily those are dying out, and I think RDR2's style will become more prominent.

      @@MidnightBootySnatchr I was excited for Odyssey (not so excited to give Ubisoft my money, but I got it via other means) but my god is it awful. And the world itself is just incredibly bland, story included.

    The problem is not in open worlds. The problem is with most worlds being shitty and lacking content. Most games make open world so they can just stick the banner onto it and later sell microtransactions and cosmetics with it, while player is left to do shitty quests that lack depth in an open world that is dead. If an open world is done correctly (every GTA game and RDR), players always come back to the game even after years.

    That gaming historian. I don't agree with her about games in being set in the old West not getting made often because the era was politically charged.
    If anything it makes it more interesting. The years following the civil war, native Americans forced off of their land, the suffragette movement. All these things are shown in the game. They don't make it awkward at all.
    When people think of the old West they think of gunslingers, outlaws, bounty hunters, gangs, indians, little towns, saloons, horses, massive open land for miles and miles and exploration.
    If anything the reason there aren't more old West games is because they are difficult to pull off. And Rockstar have set and risen the bar for the genre.

    I didn’t care for Spider-Man or God of War’s open worlds even though I love those games soo damn much....but with RDR2 I spent 400+ hours even when I have completed the main story and all the side missions cause it never feels like I’m playing a game. If video games need to be taken seriously as an art form, single player games are where it’s at. Personally I feel online games are quite boring and don’t really hold any artistic value. We want more song player experiences, cause games can tell a story as good as any movie. There is no fatigue,l either, comparing Spider-Man and RDR2’s open worlds is a joke cause they both offer varying amounts of freedom. Stop looking at it from a bland surface level and come to a generic conclusion which is isn’t based on facts.

    Manhunt 2 by Rockstar games is an excellently spectacular video game, Manhunt 3 should be a non linear open world stealth action horror video game using same gameplay mechanics identical to Manhunt 2. Since the latest GTA and Red Dead Redemption 2 are open world games Manhunt 3 should be the same way. Rockstar employees should add large variety of weapons and execution animations for each weapon as well as an increased amount of environmental executions and allow player characters to get into vehicles to drive similar to GTA series. Let the protagonists hands and clothes become full of blood after performing executions which is brilliant, i saw it in Manhunt 2 PC version it really adds magnificence to see your character having blood splattering onto their hands, face and clothes during the killing of psychopathic humans. To avoid a repeat of Manhunt 2 troubles whereby the console version of the game had to be censored just instead release a Manhunt 3 uncensored PC exclusive. From my perspective Manhunt 2 is superior compared to the first Manhunt, don't get me wrong i enjoyed playing it, however Manhunt 2 added more killing animations, weapons and so forth, you can even leap from a higher platform onto the enemy below to perform an execution which is specific to the weapon. Let me mention extra weapons which can be obtained with mods in Manhunt 2, there's milk bottle, newspaper, pen, dildo, flashlight, massive scissors, each weapon has three execution animation variants when approaching enemies stealthily from behind. Melee weapons which are available in Manhunt 2 is syringe, sledgehammer, hacksaw, glass shard, axe, plastic bag, baseball bat, cattle prod, pliers, circular saw, garrote, crowbar, barbed wire, mallet, hedge clippers, nightstick, scythe, sickle, shovel, each of the melee weapons have three execution variants when sneaking up behind psychopathic humans. Firearms available are the rifle, revolver, sniper rifle, tranquilizer gun, uzi, crossbow, assault rifle, shotgun, firearms also have killing animations, i probably forgot a few more weapons lol, i played the PC version perhaps the other platforms had other types of additional weapons. Imagine how incredible Manhunt 3 would be, come on Rockstar games executives and employees the time has arrived i know how hard you all worked on Manhunt 2 the the game is packed with content of superlative superb brilliance, Manhunt 3 development need to commence.

    This video reminds me of why I've usually avoided (tv)shows about videogames. Why do the hosts always think they have to play an integral part in the segment (riding horses, going to saloons.) It's so corny.

    Funny, I have more the impression that people are getting annoyed by multiplayer game.. For example Most people i know just play the single player mode of RDR2 , they use mod and have more fun that RDR online.. same with GTA V.. Even though I am fully aware that the online portion is the biggest money generator ever made from any video game developer.. I think GTA online still holds the record.

    This is one of those interviews that we already knew all the answers to...
    RDR is clearly a singleplayer focussed game.
    So the best question you can come up with: Do you think singleplayer is important? Do you think its something that its dying or that it is here to stay??? LIKE OFC HES GONNA SAY ITS IMPORTANT....
    Seriously????

    Too bad Rockstar games killed the single player DLC content completely with GTA 5 and RDR 2. The fact that you can have another story within the world of the main story, is a enjoyable experience which have been completely destroyed because of the introduction of online micro transactions. Now you have empty shells of non communicating characters who has to do meaningless repetitive missions, just to buy overpriced outfits, transportation etc.
    It's really sad because I grew up with this company. It's like witnessing the downfall of a legendary company. All of this for the love of money.

      I think God of War wins based on Gameplay. People had too many issues with RDR2s mechanics. Both had fantastic graphics, story, and acting (although I thought John’s voice actor is very sub-par).
