This was kind of a fast demo by Fernando. I am a happy owner of this radio for 11 years. Yes, I paid $13,000 in 2011 for it through Amateur Electronic Supply in Cleveland, Ohio (no longer exists). It would take forever to begin to scratch the surface of what this radio is capable of. I have mine interfaced with an Acer Computer Screen for enhanced readability. I removed the external handles following the amazing manual that comes with the radio. I only have a vertical antenna (HOA) for primary use, but do have an indoor discone, an indoor Diamond 6, 10, 15, 20, and 40 meter dipole. I also use my home gutter system. Great for SWLing as well as everything else. Good luck to all and worth trying to get a hold of this gem. Rich L - W2FKN
I think this is everybodys dream receiver. I wonder how it compares with the newer and lower priced IC-R8600? I know this is beautiful and looks almost like a piece of expensive medical equipment, and must be a joy to use. But I wonder if compared side-by-side with the R8600, what the differences would be as far as sensitivity, selectivity and actual audio quality.
That's exactly what I want to know. Specifically on SSB. I'm not sure if this is a direct conversion full SDR. This does have roofing filters and the Icom 7300 doesn't and would imagine the R8600 doesn't either. Other than that I see the same PBT, filter options, noise blanker, notch, and similar Noise Reduction as a 7300.
Beautiful radio, I am thinking of getting one. I have 2 questions please, does this radio get too hot during operation? Is the noise floor too high to find the very weak signals? Thank you!
Me too hehe. I would sit infront of computer though and have this remote located on a nice quiet plateau that overlooks my entire town and county. It would be a full SIGINT setup. Wellbrook ALA1530 on the HF antenna input and 2 discones on the other 2 regular antenna connectors. Both SIRIO discones the first being the 100MHz-2GHz model and the other the 300MHz-3GHz model. All on top of 45 foot tower. The unity gain will do fine on the high height of the Plateau as well as the super low noise floor. I could listen to anything easily. Might still give that a try but with a pipe mast at home and with a cheaper used IC-R75 from ebay instead since I'll never be rich.
Top class receiver and engineering from Icom - now discontinued. Would have loved to own one but at £8500-10000 out of range for most amateur radio enthusiasts. Also weighed in at 20kg, 44.1Ib.
You have no idea how well these recievers perform. They are thousands of leauges ahead of anything youve heard. I own a IRC9000 which is the predecessor to this radio and the thing is literally insane
I tried to get financing for this bad puppy, with the agreement that I would pay the balance, "when my Brother gets straight".. Almost came through too. When they found out he was a hunchback...My dream vanished..
What a great demonstration of the Icom IC-R9500! Very nice! It have everything (even PSK decoder)! The problem is the price! An very good SDR (maybe the Perseus you have here) can be comparable to this radio in terms of reception and functions, but with the buttons is much better than clicking with a mouse (I prefer buttons). And it doesn't need a computer. I which you make more videos with that radio (or the others), to show some rare DX or how this radio can improve reception even at bad conditions! 73 Good DX!
What I want to know is whether it is worth it to shell out over $10,000 more than the IC-8600 to buy the IC-9500. Exactly what are the benefits over the 8600?
I have been able to get a very nice used model and it it surpasses my expectations by some way. Kudos to Icom for delivering such a magnificent piece of engineering to the market. 73s G6XYZ
An amazing receiver, no doubt, but I can't help but wonder if one would be better offer buying a powerful computer and a top-grade SDR along with a nice antenna or two and all the fixings.
Thank you for the video. You showed the controls very well. I’d like to use part of this video on my UA-cam channel that helps to encourage people to get their amateur radio license. I’ll make sure I credit your channel and put a link to it into the description section of the video. Good DX! Larry de K7HN
I'm very interested in this product. What I can't understand is at this VERY high price point, why this receiver has only a VGA video output to bypass the small onboard video screen to a computer monitor ? VGA ? A vintage 1987 IBM standard ? I like very large screen monitors and VGA hasn't existed in the monitor world for a long time, for good reasons. It makes me wonder what else is outdated ?
that is a dream receiver, looks like 9one hell of a nice rig, im a licensed general, and havent been on the HF bands for s9ome time, and if i hade that kind of a receiver, i would do more dxing. a lot of the dxing i do now is via the use of the whistler ws1030 handheld scdanner, and i do some satelite listening on there when the ISS is overhead. no i haven't cdaptured any sstv's yet, but i hope to by the coming of winter though because to do it properly i have seen vids where you gotta be out doors and have a very LONG ass whip which i do have but can't use it indoors as it basically touches the ceiling when im sitting down lol. nice rig u got there though. for dx shortwave listening i only have two portable units with the onboard useless whip antennas. i want something that is good, and has the ability to connect to an ourdoor mast of some kind. like i said, that rig is nicer then the shit i got her
This receiver cost 14.000 dollars in Canada. You have to have a good reason to get it. The 250 dollars SDRplay does the same job with -150dbm sensitivity and better display.
A good SW antenna mounted as high up as possible is needed to bring the best out of this receiver. Also, a good VHF antenna, like a discone, again mounted as high as possible. As i understand it, it has FM stereo built in, so a dual external speaker system would work best w/ this beauty. Sounds like u're in Germany!
$12,499.95 ON www.dxengineering.com/parts/ico-ic-r9500 AT THAT PRICE I WILL TAKE 2 OF THEM LOL that is fucking nuts 12K i don't know anything about this kind of Receivers, what is the point to have this for? , is it for radio station ?
It’s a good radio that is massively overpriced. You are paying for a massive build quality bit there are better recovers at 1500.00 Not a Watkins Johnson Still I’m sure it’s a joy to own
$13,995.009 Canadian.. (A 13 grand grand radio folks ?? Why??? .. ..when @ 270.00 i know the Sdrplay - RSPdx running On SdRuno will be on par with this radio.. yep!
You can feel the high performance of this unit right through the UA-cam video.
The VFO probably has a Swiss movement behind it. Emmmm....
Way beyond the affordability of an ordinary radio enthusiast, awesome gear.

Looks beautiful. I know I'll never probably even get in 1000ft of one, but at least this video exists.
Excellent audio, crispy and detailed. I have doubts if the Reuter RDR52/55 is the one to go, if same audio for DXing, or going to the R9500.

If I got that, I'd have to be put on a blood thinner to keep from getting blood clots from sitting in front of that thing for weeks at a time.
Lol 😂😂😂😂
You want the opposite of blood thinner.
You would also have to have a wallet transfusion.

Fernando Duarte your I com ic, r9500 receiver is cool
what a beautiful receiver, wish I could afford one.
so curious, do you need to attach a very long antenna to this thing to use it? or can you listen with a small antenna that fits in your room?
@JohnD I'm worth millions, what do I care how expensive it is... I just like it.
Tem que ligar vários tipos de antenas?

I have one but not the Signal of interest I need your assistance about the antenna prototype your are working with
Too complicated for me, too expensive too, so I love my Tecsun S8800. I think a sdr and a pc with software can do nearly the same performance ?
some say that IC-R8600 outperforms this beast. But the 19" rack appeal is awesome
You have no idea how well these recievers perform. They are thousands of leauges ahead of anything youve heard. I own a IRC9000 which is the predecessor to this radio and the thing is literally insane
This rig is amazing
lol, what can it do that my rspduo can't ? it certainly won't receive more. bit of a price difference ?
Hi Fernando Duarte do you know how to connect and enable an external display to it?
I tried to get financing for this bad puppy, with the agreement that I would pay the balance, "when my Brother gets straight".. Almost came through too. When they found out he was a hunchback...My dream vanished..
Could you plz tell us what kind of ANTEENA used ?
Does anyone know the name of the artist and song beginning on 6:33? Thanks. Cheers & 73 -- KI7BSW
Very nice rig! Thank you for the tour.

Can you please do a RX audio shootout between your IC-R9500 , PERSEUS and FDM DUO please?
Same signal / same antenna / same speaker...
Many thanks

Hi what y antenna pls
I think the most impressive thing about these are the price tags.
Space Shuttle has one of this on his operating pannel.

Does it decode CW?
Does this have a built-in Morse decoder & display the text on the screen? Does anybody make such a receiver?
This is sold now?

Because it is an "old" radio :-)
@@nicko530i The first Ford Mustang was built in 1964, 55 years ago. They've been updated in technology every year since :-)
Because this receiver was built in 2007!
Fernando would you still buy a aor 7030 for 500 now non plus thanks Mark swl
What a tease!
That narrowing of the virtual filters process could be automated. That would be cool.

The actual tuning knob is not centered?
I don't know what you mean dear friend.

Why should it be...
Can you see the whole tuning
knob wobbling?
It is not the knob is just the rubber on the outside.
Is this Icon just a receiver? Is not it a transceiver too ?!
