Hey Carys! Veterinary Nurse here;) I think you're doing great with Mila! First of all with the crate training, I think if you really want the crate in your room you should give her a treat once you put her in the crate so she knows its a positive experience, and cover it with a blanket so she knows its sleep time. As for the cuddly toys, I think they're great for playing but she'll need hard rubber toys for her teething, or she might try and bite you a lot or your wooden table especially. Also, I noticed you were trying to get her to come away with James' family dog with your voice; If toby doesn't like what Mila is doing he will snap at her as a warning, which is what she needs because she'll learn to treat other dogs better too and she needs to learn boundaries which toby will introduce her to. She's such a lovely girl! xx
Getting her soft anything (toys, bed etc) right now is silly. She's teething, so she needs hard toys to help relieve gum pain. Otherwise she'll just take it out on your lovely furniture and/or skirting boards. Save the soft toys until after her adult teeth have grown in!
Hey guys! I'm not sure whether this would be of help but I have had many dogs and many breeds in the past. If you are going to crate train, it is best to not have her in the bedroom. We did this with our French Bulldog Riley and although they cry it is best to leave them. If you do not leave them, they will have serious separation anxiety in the future, meaning everytime you leave them alone they will foul on the floor/carpet and chew, getting their "revenge". I know it's super hard to leave them to cry, but, it is part of the process. After 3-4 nights she will get used to it and she will be fine. But getting her used to being in your bedroom, could mean that she thinks that is her place to sleep which you don't want, unless you do want her sleeping in the bed! (I would advise against this as Labs shed like crazy and your sheets will be dog hair central!) Please do take what people suggest into consideration, as nobody is trying to tell you what to do they may just be more experienced and trying to help! She seems so happy with you though, little sweetheart :-) good luck!
You could try giving her one of your sweaty shirts or something that has your scent on it when she's crying ! It really helped with my dog when she was a puppy and crying a lot 😊 She's gorgeous btw !
When I first got my dog she did the same crying thing at night. Nothing worked for a long time, however if she can see out of her crate then cover her crate with a blanket, that is the only thing that helped my dog.
My dog shakes too in the car! He's gotten a lot better though and it's totally normal! Also try covering up the kennel at night and she won't go potty in the crate (usually) if you block off the back half of the crate because they won't go to the bathroom where they're laying!
I watched the house tour when you first bought it and explained what you were going to do as far as knocking walls down for the kitchen. It was hard to visualize but this is huge and gorgeous! Can't wait to see the house when everything's done! Congrats on that and the new pupper💕
Yes hahaha, thats funny. I am just watching the videos when they got Mila as we are due to get a labrador puppy next month so trying to see how they got on!
My dog was the same with her crate, but I heard that dogs hate having the cold metal around them. The noise of metal tends to make dogs anxious, try putting a blanket around so it’s more like a cave environment, or we got a wooden crate that is sooooo cute and she loves it! She hated her metal crate but loved her wooden one with her comfy bed in it!
I have a German Shepard and when we were crate training we put a shirt in it that we had worn all day that had our sent on it so it would help calm them down! That seemed to work. During the night I would suggest sleeping close to the crate to make sure you let them out through the night. But not have it in ur room.
I've been sick all week and your videos mixed with cold medicine and sleep are the only things that have kept me going...Mila is so cute!! And you guys are goals oml💞
When we first got our dog we took turns sleeping on the floor beside the crate when our puppy cried, but he came to love his crate, it was like his little home, giving treats in the crate helps!
Me and my husband recently got a puppy (4 months old now) and when she cried in the night we would sit next to her crate but not speak to her and just wait there until she fell asleep. I also wore a T-shirt for a night and then put it in the crate for her when she went to bed for comfort xxx
When i crate trained my puppy , his crate went in the kitchen and we gave him treat overtime he went in there. We lined his crate with blankets and he took his favourite toy. I know its hard when their crying and whimpering but you got to be tough on them. My dog was crate trained within weeks xx
Glad you found a way that worked for Mila during the night! It’s good that she let you know when she needed to do a wee too! Hopefully onwards and upwards from here 😘💛
Watching this 2 years later and they seem SO much happier in the new house. This just feels like a place they happened to be living. The new house is so customised to their personalities.
Weeee house tour 😁 for Mila i suggest you to, after a while maybe 2 weeks in that you move her in the night somewhere downstairs, so she can learn to be alone, even in the night. And start training her right away, when they come into puberty its like they don't want to listen to you. So i really do suggest that you start training her, but not with treats (food) but as a petting or sayin' she is a good girl.
I went through the same thing with my dog. When he was a puppy we got him some Kong toys. They're so durable and he has had them for 2 years and they've lasted. Any of the soft toys we get him he rips through them. So Kong toys and they're rubber treat holders are also amazing
I've had my new boxer pup for a week now and I found the best thing to do was leave the crate downstairs and ignore the crying, now he sleeps in the crate happily at night , only cries for like a minute if at all! There was a lot of poo incidents in the crate the first few nights but now holds it until the morning and I take him straight out when I get up! I would try leaving the crate downstairs because it is important that they learn to be ok on their own at night!
Mila is so adorable. Makes me want to get a dog. The kitchen is totally goals love the cabinet colour. Totally getting the modern cottagey feel you guys were going for.
I’ve crate trained my two huskies and I would give them a kong filled with peanut butter for them to have something to do while they’re in the crate! I more so do it when I leave the house and they have to be crated but have done it for nights as well! Best of luck with the puppy stage, she is so cute!
Your house is looking amazing, its cheaper to get nappy sacks for poop scooping (aldi 100 -75p) they are strong too & smell nice lol, you could teach the dog to just sleep in the grey chair, that way you only have 1 set of seat covers to wash instead of the 2 big sofas, the seat "hammock " car seat covers are great & dog seat belts are a great idea too, its always worth getting a coat & hi vis jacket for her when she is fully grown too, just to keep her safe if your out at night & it will last her lifetime, x
I've seen multiple comments on putting her in another room, and that can be useful but definitely not necessary if you already found what works for her! We have crate trained multiple dogs in our room and when we decide to stop making them sleep in the crate we give them their own bed next to ours. You don't have to have them in a different room to have them not on your bed! EVERY dog is unique though, and it seems like you guys are great at finding what works for Mila!
I used a hot water bottle wrapped in a blanket and a ticking clock when we got my pup it’s suppose to feel like the pups mum is still there he cried for 5 mins on first night and then he settled x your house looks stunning really coming together I love watching you both :-) xxx
Where did you have your kitchen from and was it expensive? We are looking at having a new one with the overs and big draws but have no idea on price only asking as yours is the same size as ours? love your home currently doing ours and your giving me great ideas. Xxx
Awww she so cute! Definitely crate training is the way forward but its so hard not to cave ha ha! Every dog and dog parent is different so you just have to go with whatever is best for you as a family :-) The key for me with puppies is just to be strong now then you'll reap the benefits of it when she's older. People have unlucky experiences but my vets allowed me to take my pup to the beach pretty much from day 1 because its super clean there due to the salt water, 1 year on and he's the healthiest dog I've had. Enjoy xxx
So so cute!! We had exactly the same with our puppy crying, he was very anxious and wouldn't settle in the crate to the point where he was literally hysterical 😭.. so we just opened the door & left it open, he then went in & out of it realising it wasn't scary... we left the door open over night aswell and he was fine!! Xxx
We also brought our puppy home at 7 weeks and had the same experience at night! We found downloaded a heartbeat app on an old iPhone/iPad and wrapped it in one of my worn T-shirt’s and put that in his crate and that worked well! They aren’t used to sleeping alone so having the heartbeat sound and a familiar smell can help a lot. Also, we just set an alarm for every few hours to take him outside to pee that way we beat him to his crying and he went right back to sleep!!
My puppy had the same issue at night. It helps to put them to bed with something that smells familiar like a jumper or top that belongs to either of you and try not fuss over her before bed cuz she will continue to want the attention and won't understand why it stopped and she's out in a crate.. let her know it's bed time soon before and don't show her attention or making a fun as she sleeps.
When Toby knocked Mila down the steps omg 😂😂😂🙈 couldn’t help but giggle at that (she’s okay so we can giggle) Your kitchen looks so so so good!!! Kitchen goals 😍 ily
Hey! Me and my boyfriend are about to move into our first home too, your kitchen is amazing can i ask where its from? We are trying to find some ideas before we move in 🙈
you should get a kong and put peanut butter/carrots inside for her to try and get out when shes a bit older and chews..my lab and golden retrievers always loved them xx
Just some tips we found from our puppy... let her in her crate but with it open in a small room because that’s their little home and they don’t want to poo or mess inside it! Leave a light on, as if she slept as a young puppy with a light on she might be scared of the dark! Leave something thAt smells of you in there and also a clock/watch near her so it sounds like her mums heartbeat!
Veterinary student & I’ve raised many litters of puppies, just giving you some pointers! Dogs are only meant to hold their bathroom for as many hours as months old they are. So right now she’s ab 2 months so she needs to go out every 2 hours; if she’s in the crate she may hold it for longer (or not) but as soon as she comes out she needs to go, if she eats/drinks needs to go, she plays a lot needs to go. Also, I know she’s your baby now so you just want her to be happy but don’t let her do anything you won’t always allow. Dogs don’t understand exceptions and it will only confuse her. You both have dogs in your parents home so I’m sure you know a good bit ab them! Y’all are great puppy parents💕 just giving some tips!
With my pup, at night we put a blanket over top of the crate and that cut down her crying a Lot! She just fell right asleep. I’d also recommend putting her downstairs because although you want her near you, it’ll be easy to let her cry when she’s downstairs. And even tho it’s so hard when they’re so small and cute, you gotta just let them cry:(
Sounds a bit odd but what worked for my dog in the nights was a hot water bottle and a ticking clock wrapped in a blanket, apparently it makes them feel like their sleeping next to their mum/brothers&sisters because of the warmth and heartbeat 🐶♥️♥️
Loving these vlogs!!! really sorry if you already knew this but I only found out when I recently got my puppy but its actually the law to have her restrained in the car no matter what her age is, whether it be a dog seat belt or a crate in the back xxx
Yes 100% agree with this! My puppy has had one for 8 months now and it’s still going strong! Not as exciting/enticing as gravy bones etc but they last so long they’re worth every penny
Awww I'm loving your house 😍 and lil baby mila is just adorable!! Once you's are settled into the house and get a routine down she'll be perfect, That's how it was for our dog, and as dogs get older they can actually hold it for the toilet for way longer! I would get hard toys for her right now too coz she's teething, and those soft toys will be in BITS soon ha! Also If you go into a pound shop you can get like 200 scented nappy bags for way cheaper for her poo, believe me it makes a difference ha! Can't wait for a full house tour 😆 so much ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ for you as always xoxoxoxoxox
I thought I couldn’t love you both more - and then you got a puppy!! 😍 she’s beautiful! You’ll be the best pup parents! You should make her an insta account!! 😍 We found a crate for our pup next to our bed worked best too, took her a few weeks to really settle but not long. My only tip is to just enjoy every moment - even the mischief to come, the first 2 years are the hardest but it’s worth every moment 💕
My dog shakes when she’s excited so it could be that! If we go to the beach in the car she’ll start shaking when we get close because she gets so excited x
Oh my god Milaaa my heart is melting 😭😭😍😍 Makes me want to go out and get a dog right now!! But my bf and I decided to wait till we have a house with a garden since we're living in an apartment in a big city for now 😢 so much love for you 3 ❤❤❤
The kitchen is amazing!!! Where does the stove go? And is it common to have a door to your kitchen in England? I dunno I just love everything about your house it’s so amazing and Mila is everything!! ❤️❤️
I have a 15 year old lab and this video makes me remember just how small he was haha! I'd recommend a 'kong' as a toy for a lab as they chew EVERYTHING and they're quite hard but also fun for them! :-) x
The kitchen is beautiful!!! I LOVE it! Also I have a black lab who has a red collar and he has the little fox toy you just bought as well :D He was snuggled up with me when I watched this and his ear pricked up every time you squeaked a toy haha (squeaky, soft, toys are his fav). Mila is so cute and seems so happy :D Does she still pant/slobber in the car? Our lab is 7 and he still dribbles EVERYWHERE when he goes in the car, but never any other time. We just put a blanket under him, also he has his own dog harness for the car as he is a bit big to go on our laps haha. Can't wait to see your house when it is complete :D
My pup cried and pooped in the crate every night all night to protest, everyone it would get better with time and it never did. Finally let her in my bed and just got up every now and then to take her outside. Honestly have no regrets we get along an cuddle lol!
Hey Carys! Veterinary Nurse here;) I think you're doing great with Mila! Cut to now and she’s pregnant!!
@@rebeccaperry1098 cut to now and she’s got baby amber! lol 🎉❤️
I am endlessly happy for you two.
I've never seen baby Mila I'm so happy this was in my recommended, my dog just passed away and this made me smile after being sad for a long time ♥️
My dog shakes too in the car! He's gotten a lot better though and it's totally normal! Also try covering up the kennel at night and she won't go potty in the crate (usually) if you block off the back half of the crate because they won't go to the bathroom where they're laying!

They’re getting your house done so quickly! Love it
My baby black lab is now 1 years old, the puppy days fly by. I miss them so much omg

Try a hot water bottle, your old T-shirts, lots of soft blankets all in the crate and a blanket over the top xx The house is looking amazing! x
You're such good and caring parents, guys!! 🐶😍
OMG she's literally like a toddler bless her! I had to do the same to get Theia to sleep in her room! LOVE your kitchen it's beautiful!
I've seen multiple comments on putting her in another room, and that can be useful but definitely not necessary if you already found what works for her! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS CHANNEL.I always tune in and i adore your relationship and watching you do up your new house! thanks for the great content
I have 2 Maltese dogs and they wear clothes!!! They make really nice raincoats, which living in the UK could definitely be helpful!
When Toby knocked Mila down the steps omg 😂😂😂🙈 couldn’t help but giggle at that (she’s okay so we can giggle)
Your kitchen looks so so so good!!! Kitchen goals 😍
ily
Beautiful home I love house vlog !! You’r Mila is so cutty ❤️❤️ congrat for this house and all works in !!
How nice is that kitchen😩 the rose gold handles look so good with the colour of the cabinets😍😋
That kitchen, I'm obsessed wow
Love the kitchen! And Mila is just adorable! 😍 xx
The kitchen is so beautiful! I’m in the middle of doing up our house, and it’s all so frustrating. But you’ve done such an amazing job!
You can try a snug and safe. It’s a microwaveable heat pad, which she’ll associate with her litter mates.
Literally been waiting for this to come out! Mila is adorable and your house is beautiful!! X
Omg the kitchen!! I love how excited you two are hahah :)
Hey! Me and my boyfriend are about to move into our first home too, your kitchen is amazing can i ask where its from? We are trying to find some ideas before we move in 🙈
you should get a kong and put peanut butter/carrots inside for her to try and get out when shes a bit older and chews..my lab and golden retrievers always loved them xx
cute cute cute obssessing over baby Mila
Just some tips we found from our puppy... let her in her crate but with it open in a small room because that’s their little home and they don’t want to poo or mess inside it!

yesss!!! miss her so much!!!! And I love the handles in the kitchen!❤❤
love the kitchen your house is coming together nicely.
LOVE the handles on the cabnets innthe kitchen omggg
Yay! Was waiting for 11am haha! Ty! LY both so much
Mila is the cutest dog ever. And I am so happy for you guys. 💙
You guys are like first time parents so over protective and over cautious 😂 I love it lol
your kitchen is goals
You should buy Mila a deer antler to chew on! They are virtually indestructible and they sell them in Pets At Home
Yeah 100% agree, my dogs have had these and they last ages!
Yes 100% agree with this! My puppy has had one for 8 months now and it’s still going strong! Not as exciting/enticing as gravy bones etc but they last so long they’re worth every penny
Haha my dog ate it in like 2 months 😂😂
A split deer antler would be great, since her baby teeth may be a little bit too soft for full antler.
she may be cold, one of my dogs gets super cold and a dog sweater works wonders for him he loves it!
Awww I'm loving your house 😍 and lil baby mila is just adorable!! Once you's are settled into the house and get a routine down she'll be perfect, That's how it was for our dog, and as dogs get older they can actually hold it for the toilet for way longer! Also If you go into a pound shop you can get like 200 scented nappy bags for way cheaper for her poo, believe me it makes a difference ha! Can't wait for a full house tour 😆 so much ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ for you as always xoxoxoxoxox
I love the kitchen sooo much
Omg! I am IN LOVE with your house, everything about it is gorgeous 😍😍
In the night try to put a ticking clock next to them. Sometimes they want to hear the heartbeat of their mum amd it soothes them.
I thought I couldn’t love you both more - and then you got a puppy!! 😍 she’s beautiful! You’ll be the best pup parents! You should make her an insta account!! 😍
We found a crate for our pup next to our bed worked best too, took her a few weeks to really settle but not long. My only tip is to just enjoy every moment - even the mischief to come, the first 2 years are the hardest but it’s worth every moment 💕
My dog shakes when she’s excited so it could be that! If we go to the beach in the car she’ll start shaking when we get close because she gets so excited x
Mila’s expression when James slammed the car door at 3:20 was so scared😂😂 poor baby
Oh my god Milaaa my heart is melting 😭😭😍😍 Makes me want to go out and get a dog right now!! But my bf and I decided to wait till we have a house with a garden since we're living in an apartment in a big city for now 😢 so much love for you 3 ❤❤❤

i want to redo mine now.
The kitchen is amazing!!! Where does the stove go? And is it common to have a door to your kitchen in England? I dunno I just love everything about your house it’s so amazing and Mila is everything!! ❤️❤️

She’s the cutest puppy ever😍😍 so happy for you guys!
I love these puppy vlogs!! I pick my choc lab up next week.. any tips for a lab puppy? ☺️
My dog shakes too and we went to the vet and they just said that she's either excited or in UK conditions, she's cold
LOVE your couples vlogs & Mila is adorable
“I wanted a coat I saw in there!” Lmaooo too funny
In love with your kitchen 😍
I have a 15 year old lab and this video makes me remember just how small he was haha! I'd recommend a 'kong' as a toy for a lab as they chew EVERYTHING and they're quite hard but also fun for them! :-) x
You don't even have a sink & you still have ultimate kitchen goals 🙌🏻😍
I’ve had the puppy poo situation a few times 🙈 our breeder told us not to feed him after 5/6 and that seemed help a lot!
