i love to see people handling a chainsaw with craftsmanship skill,im from the uk and have just started watching timber kings, where pioneer homes build these crazy log homes for the rich, the design is mind bending good, all done with chainsaws and traditional handtools etc
Great first video in series! There are many people who are interested in hand wood carving, northwest native art and greatly respect the native art. Please continue the series. The close up video on the master carver's techniques and how he uses the tools are very valuable. Suggestions: put a microphone on Tom, the master carver, so we can hear him better; get him to talk more rather than yourself because he has a lot of experience and wisdom and deserves tremendous respect.
Woah! Great stuff, good to see Tom again and looking forward to the videos to come. Learned something new today, how to round out a log with a huge chain saw! Good work, cheers!
A bandsaw mill would save his lower back...and be more efficient...but not as impressive. Such precision. Wow. Also, that tricep comment was hilarious.
lol, Spoken like a true wood carving Native Man,,,lol. Sounds like my uncle talking about his "gas and oil" situations,,,, Thank you for doing this video and for sharing it with us. :)
I usually move shit like this with my special powers! Like a winch and a floor jack ! There are tools that would eliminate most of all the pre measuring and cutting for relatively cheap when it comes to time and labor. This is why they developed mills back in like before Jesus Christ and the Totem Carvers. Also, dulling that many chainsaw blades must not be very economical of fun to sharpen. Awesome vid tho. This is some good stuff.
Hi Tom. Remember me? Ron Stacy. I like your new (to me) workshop. I'm up here in the Okanagan being mostly retired, but still pretty busy. It's nice to see you and that your still carving.
Hey Tom. Doing all right here in the Okanagan, but miss you guys doing nifty stuff and doing it together from time to time. I've set up a little bit of a woodworking shop again. When I left Sidney, I got rid of most of my tools, except the carving tools, but I've been re-stocking on equipment so I'm about to get back in it with both feet. Just got back from Europe. Never occurred to me to go there until recently. Pretty cool; art everywhere, and sculptures, of course. I'm enjoying seeing you work, but haven't seen part 2 yet. You haven't really changed at all, except your girth, just like me. We've got about ½ an acre here, a double size house, so we can use half for studio/workshop and half to live in. There's an archery range out back. Not much real art or 3D work here except for 2 or 3 artists.
I like the "get ya some" dance @ 8:40ish lmao..... Tom is a stud, great video and way to give Tom some publicity he's doesn't seem like he cares too much though... thanks for posting
Wow just wow. Genius to round the log with string and a chain saw. I would have sent untold time and money trying to spin the log (which seems like the worst solution now).
Jamie Greenwood I'm confused... yes he can follow the chalkline with the bar, but there is no way for him to keep the saw at a consistent angle other than years of experience... doesn't really seem genius. He could hold the saw perfectly level, but chances are it is wavering around quite a bit and varies from cut to cut...
That might be faster with a big ass lathe, but a chainsaw has a more manly sound and feel. Besides, the center is rotten, could be difficult to mount (other than the sheer mass of it that is) besides, not a lot of lathes out there that could handle a "log" that size. KEWLNESS factor 10.
Thank you to Tom and yourself, forgiving us the oppertunity in watch the full process. But unfortunately some of the comments are correct the music is a touch loud.
Thanks for keep my culture alive Tom 👳🏾♂️🏹🪶🦅🦊🦚🐺🦃🩸🧬
That chalkline method is genius, so simple even for that big of a piece and the result was very nice and tidy.
Super excited for this series!
This guy is awesome. glad you got back up with him.

There's the Samurai we love! So good to see you having fun again. 😊
nice to see tom back! thanks for the vid guys!
I love that he is so particular and precise with his centering and measurements...then he pulls out a chainsaw to make the precision cuts! Love it!
i cant wait to see more of this series!!

I have been waiting for this one. Thanks!
Yes! I've been waiting for this!
Favorite parts: "No goddamn oil" and Samurai goofing off in the background air humping.
Unbelievable how a rough tree log was made so circular. He made it look so simple in his method, but that is some serious skill!
This is awesome. Can't wait for the next video. Remember Samarai, safety second, eyes and ears. Very important
Wooo! This is exciting!
Keep these videos with Tom coming as long as he's willing, they are super interesting.
The dance moves, put a smile on my face.
Thanks for this content, looking forward to the rest of them

Thanks for showing this. I'm watching it with my kids for sure!

His technique is brilliantly simple! He's got to be a patient man.
"Haste makes waste."

OMG!! This is going to be great!!!!
Such a simple concept but so much work!
Cool video! Looking forward to following the progress!
Well done Tom, put them young bucks to work!!
I remember some people asking for this, this is a great way of creating content and relaxing... :-) so keep them coming.
good video, looking forward to more in this series!
love this guy. what a boss
Hearing protection is the coolest thing ;)
You should start a GoFundMe to get Tom a lathe. I'd put up some of my Canadian pesos to make this old dude cry.
10:54
That's what she said.
I am curious myself to see the layout, it's very fascinating to me. You should let him use your chisel of power on this.
Just put it on the lathe
Psyklops I
We gonna need a bigger lathe...
was gonna say the same thing! There are lathes for logs so
Psyklops why waste the money when you can do it yourself. Plus it's cooler.
Expensive machinery
Oh this is going to be Great!
all you bros who have a better way to do it, post your videos on how you can do that better
The that guy some Oil and Gas. That was funny, reminded me of my grandpa when I used all his gas for my dirt bike.
Stoked this video is finally out!
Samurai's back in the gym then 💪
Awesome! Looking forward to the following parts :).
I see good things coming with your work with Tom Jesse, been waiting patiently- I'm actually a little giddy.
A bandsaw mill would save his lower back...and be more efficient...but not as impressive.
Such precision. Wow.
Also, that tricep comment was hilarious.
is the music really loud for anyone else?
lol, Spoken like a true wood carving Native Man,,,lol. Sounds like my uncle talking about his "gas and oil" situations,,,, Thank you for doing this video and for sharing it with us. :)
This guy should have his own channel.
That was some fine handling on that chain saw. Looked fun though . God bless and keep em coming . . .

kudos on using an old teflon tape roll for the extra mic cord!
That guy is a boss. And hilarious when he starts talking about the chain oil.

A lot of the small Korean villages used to have totem poles.
WoW so much work just to get ready to start up the preparation for the set up WoW
Our Sensei Tom's grasshopper
Think that is back breaking work? Just think of how it used to be done. Awesome video!
Fascinating.

Tom is BA!
Sick tri's bro
Waiting for Pt2 :)
If I was doing that on a regular basis, I think I would build a timber frame lathe, and turn it.
Dope!
Awesome!!!
No more god damn oil.
haha
Jake Wallace sounds like my brother when his sons raid his workshop!!!
Why aren't there more videoes with Tom? I thought he said there was a new series coming after the totem pole one
Didn't really notice the triceps but I did notice that the belly is getting big.
8:25
Maybe his triceps fell into his belly. lol I think the same thing is happening to me. Sucks getting older but its better than the alternative. :)
Thats a sign of a hard worker. No time to eat during the day so eats plenty at night probably, which i can attest does give you a bit of a gut!
The de Geest sense of humor at 8:25 lol
its just too good
SOOoooooOooOO Satisfyingg
