Hi , cool well done. I would of used a key way broach under a hydraulic press . yes i understand yours is a blind hole. I done this on a lathe 30 years back it was painful .

I didn't see any hole for cutting relief, there might be a relief slot in side that is deeper than key slot. I am not a English speaker, I hope someone can understand what I mean!

You need a vernier height guage. So much easier
