      Umm replicating something you don't own is actually illegal. And games workshop of all people have made that pretty clear. Ans if you do it from models got from independent creators. Kinda makes y'all quite the assholes.
      Believe it's called copyright infringement

    The amount of terrain I've been able to produce for dnd games has been ridiculous. Ive got a Craftbot 3 Idex, yeah its a few years old but man its a workhorse and about the quietest FDM printer Ive ever used. Worked for several 3d printing companies, that made vehicles, another that made the 1st printed building in Europe. Been wild to see how far the tech has come. Love the vids that explore other tech that can be used for our hobbies! The table tech build was epic!

    You could 100% make some amazing scenery out of those models
    fx. The Space Marine could become a huge broken statue

    Im curious if you can do various things to improve the scan. For example put the mini in a light box with a bright background which might let it pick out those antennas.

    Baby powder in your hair knocks the shine down and the scanner has an easier time sorting out what it is looking at

    You should try the lizard scanner it's more made for smaller detail or use a company who make a scanner called seal which is also meant for small detail

    Looks like a great scanner, if you're interested in other scanners on the market I can recommend the Einscan Pro as a scanner which can definitely do full body scans, the down side is the price tag.

    I’m now just imaging a world where people can go back to making 3-up sculpts and then shrinking them back down using 3D scanning….

      I don't think we'll go back to that, in that manner. People have upskilled to become 3D sculptors & the next generation are already training in CAD sculpting rather than using clay etc

    3D Scanning for Table Top Simulator alone. Then we get to 3D print.

    I don't see why the tank would be a problem. I've tested close to a dozen scanners and they would all have no trouble with that except the one that's made for really big objects.

    That looks really promising.
    If you'd put your tank on a box with a Lazy Susan/Turntable on top the tracks may have come out better by scanning them at eye level?
    At $429 it's still beyond the acceptable investment of most of us though.
    Happy Modelling

    Ok, mini paniting question.
    You know how in photoshop, you can create a "black" layer... then reduce the opacity?
    Is there a transparent black you can use for mini painting?
    I recently supersize my players DnD minis from 33mm to 8 inches... :D Paint job looks AMAZING!! But their too bright! I wanted to do some OSL, But it's just not going to work! I need to darken the models! :(
    Is there anything out there that would work?

    • @beesforbreakfast

      Washes and glazes! Just reaaal thin paint or ink (I’d go with the latter, but that’s mostly because it’s what I’m used to), work lean and keep an eye on the results as you go

    Archaeologists have been using this more and more recently so as to allow access and better recording for more artefacts wherever outside factors may reduce the potential for it.

    If anyone wants to properly scan minis, just get an OpenScan Mini. Like anything there is a learning curve but for mini sized things its hard to beat the price to performance ratio. These handheld scanners are just junk if you want to scan minis.

    Really not trying to be an asshole but the technology and software that exists is completely capable. It's more your skills. I don't mean that to be a sick burn but just that obviously the workflows are super complicated and require expensive gear like DSLR cameras, Polarized lights and filters, the skills to be able to stitch two sans (Top and bottom) together and as well as better software like reality capture. Using the workflows made for games and film and you will get better results. My point is that the technology do do this well exists however it's a career path on it's own. It is cool to see that there are companies out there making the barrier to entry lower and things more accessible with these kinds of tools. I just don't want people thinking that this is the cutting edge. More like a compromise. (I'd just like to add that everything is really going to come down to how good you need the tools to perform as well. You might not need your scans to be correct to the 0.1mm and so these kinds of tools would be fine. Don't need to buy and learn to drive an F1 car just so you can commute to work right.)

    3D printing has ruined the hobby as far as I am concerned. Physical shops are closing all over for various reasons and as models are mostly being sold as stl files this means you have to buy a printer to continue to get the best sculptures. All these youtube channels get free printers to try to sell them to viewers. These channels mostly only show models that can only be done on printers. Except warhammer which they also get for free. That does not diminish the painting talent on these channels which is exellent.

      I wish 3d printers had actually caused GW to reduce their pricing because people know how cheap the raw materials are and paying $100 for 5 models is ridiculous

      Do you have any evidence to support your claims? Number of stores closing and proof it's 3d printing? I don't know anyone who prints models yet have multiple friends who play

    • @rhino5419
      @rhino5419 7 місяців тому

      @@SolarisWesson I totally agree.

    • @rhino5419
      @rhino5419 7 місяців тому

      @@Skepticismistheway 3D printing is only 1 of many reasons that contribute to these closures. 3 hobby shops closed in my own town including the warhammer shop which closed during covid and never re-opened. The only option left is internet now. Warhammer probably priced themselves out aswell. As a lot of these channels show, free or very cheap copycat 40,000 stl files are available which can't be good either.

      @rhino5419 Many small stores have closed over the last 10-15 years due to the prevalence of online shopping. It's not due to 3d printing. If games workshop was feeling an impact from 3d printing, they would try much harder to remove copy models or reduce outrageous prices. The reality is that 3d printing is not what hurt brick and mortar hobby shops
