Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, “Masters of the Air” follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.
The series features a stellar cast led by Academy Award nominee Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle and Nate Mann, who are joined by Raff Law, Academy Award nominee Barry Keoghan, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook and Ncuti Gatwa.
Hailing from Apple Studios, "Masters of the Air" is executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Television, and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone. Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey co-executive produce alongside Playtone’s Steven Shareshian. In addition to writing, Orloff co-executive produces. Graham Yost also serves as co-executive producer. Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Dee Rees and Tim Van Patten serve as directors.

Austin Butler looking like a true classic Hollywood star
Lookin like he cant shake his Elvis role... being typecasted... boring..
It doesn’t track when he’s prettier than his female lead.
Making the central character Hollywood handsome detracts from the story.

Did a Masters of the Air tour with Donald Miller in 2022. They were just wrapping production filming, he told us that both Hanks and Spielberg were sticklers for complete accuracy. Can’t wait.
They do a great job. I do have to laugh, however, because the bomb group identified at the end of this clip is incorrect. The 389th didn’t arrive in Europe until June 1943 and didn’t strike Wilhelmshaven until November 1943. Bucky Egan also didn’t fly with the 389th when he went over early; he flew with the 305th. More than that, though, the 389th didn’t even fly B-17s - they flew B-24s.
Makes me wonder. Still, looks visually fantastic and I'm very optimistic that this is one of few errors.
Yet look how dirty they did Master Sergeant Albert Blithe and still havent retconned it
@@nicholaswilson2761my grandpa flew in the 389th, based out of Hethel, England. Definitely B-24s, not B-17s. 😅
They also misidentified BF-110s calling them JU-88s...the first two episodes have been mid at best.
I don't know. That blonde girl is coming off way too modern. She's really forward and has a modern bearing and manner. These people don't feel like they're in the 1940s.
this looks amazing!!!!!! also, the chemistry between Callum and Austin is amazing. Good acting. God, i'm so glad to finally see Austin in a new proyect. He's fantastic. Can't wait for this

The first episode definitely took a lot of inspiration from "Memphis Belle" including scenes such as the belly landing in the beginning, the dive to extinguish the engine fire, the near collision as the formation is climbing through clouds, and the fact the target was Bremen.
Memphis Bell didn't look like a cut scene from a PlayStation Game.
Never realized how much Callum Turner sounds like Chris Evans.

Just watched the first two episodes. Two. Thumbs. Up. All engines runnin' hot.
Starting out Butler had a bit part as one of a group of teens in a horror movie. My eye went straight to him. I remember thinking,”what a cool looking kid.” The rest is history.
Just finished the first episode and I have to say I'm impressed.
I enjoyed the first 2 episodes very much. Looking forward to the rest of this series!
Tbh Austin Butler's voice is actually very soothing here, a voice like that and situation like those men were going into could actually be a little helpful.

I’m confused, because I thought the 389th BG didn’t arrive in England until June 1943. How could they have been present for the May 21, 1943 raid over Wilhelmshaven?
@@nicholaswilson2761 I noticed the same. And then headed straight to North Africa. Did some digging and it looks like he flew that mission with the 305th. Surprised by the oversight , but if there's going to be an oversight, I'm glad the 389th benefit. Maybe some will learn about the Sky Scoprions.

I’ve just watched the first episode and sat here on my comfortable sofa in complete silence, shock and disbelief. In the words of one of the greatest leaders of my island nation "Never was so much owed by so many to so few" prime minister Winston Churchill on 20 August 1940. I am so grateful for their sacrifice and for the peace that they have created. May their sacrifice NEVER be forgotten.

I like them showing this side of the military. True gentleman, very respectful, sexy, like can’t get enough of them. I can’t imagine what the women have been feeling or going through while their husbands were away for a long time not knowing if they would be back. I would have been so stressed. I can’t stand it when my boyfriend goes missing for a day.
One thing i notice quality of movies are very superior.

Someone cast this man as Indiana Jones please. I always thought no one other than Harrison Ford could do justice to that character, but Austin Butler checks all the boxes. He has the looks, the charisma, the deep voice, plus he is an excellent actor. I wish I was a Disney executive right now, I would make it happen no matter the costs.

What's with the shirt colors? Maybe it's the lighting, but those class-A uniform colors look gray on Gale and black on Bucky. Only two colors (with slight variations of those as well) were worn back then, khaki, and olive drab, which looked almost dark brown.

Master's of boredom! Hanks usually hits on these, but this is a mesh of every other Hanks war epic. But it' lacks the great characters and compelling storylines. By the third episode I didn't care who made it back.

No doubt, there will be a scene in which two American airmen will say that Harris is overrated.
After 2 episodes, I'm enjoying the action scenes and technical jargon, but I don't really care about any of the characters yet.
Yawning all the way, even when they’re diving trying to extinguish that fire, the acting is what makes the difference and makes it believable not the CGI and costumes. I’ll go watch 12 o’clock high again.. Does no one else not wonder why HBO didn’t pick this series up?

Thoughts so far?
I am the grandson of a bomber navigator from the European theatre. I’ve spent a lot of time researching my grandfather’s missions, which culminated in his Lancaster being shot down and only 3 of 5 of his crew bailing out successfully.
I can’t relate to these characters. They seem like well paid actors not people trying to retell important stories.
It’s lightweight. But perhaps I am biased.

What was that?.. it's sad how much has changed since Band of Brothers. This feels like a bunch of over confident, make up clad, unlikeable characters. Everything is too clean cut and polished and egotistical. I'm surprised it went in this direction. The directors seem scared that no one will tune in if they produced a gritty realistic war drama with normal looking and normal acting people.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m the 40s in the Air Force or what was called the army air corps then,it wasn’t pushed as much to get your hair cut as short as it maybe would for the army or marines

Bro war isn’t all combat.Adding stuff about peoples personal lives is what makes it more realistic

Masters of the Air just received several poor reviews. I expected much better though. Apple should now put up the first episode on YT for free to convince viewers the show is better than the reviews otherwise it might discourage potential viewers.
