    Hello Santrix,

    Is the Dainav(Class) 12.3" Head Unit still compatible with iOS or is there another unit?

    Great job! i'd like to install this item on my macan s my2015 instead of pcm3.1. i've bose sound system and i'd like to maintain the audio system. Can i use the same fiber optic converter used in pcm4 or i need something else? Thank you very much

      I’m not sure I understand your question, but, if you have PCM3.1 you need to use a MOST25 fiber converter. PCM4.0 uses MOST150 and is not compatible, hence they can’t be used interchangeable.

    Is there a unit like this that fits in the standard 2015 S space rather than relocating the vents? I'd like a modern glass screen and carplay but I don't want to move the vents from stock.

    Great videos detailing your journey to the current DaiNav unit. I have confirmed the vendor has these for RHD as I am in Australia. As I also wish to upgrade my stereo speakers after installing the DaiNav head unit, is there any feature or cabling I should ensure I get from the vendor so that I dont compromise my options for the stereo upgrade later?? I would recommend you take a look at my audio build here: www.diymobileaudio.com/threads/my-2015-porsche-macan-audio-upgrade-log.432348/
      In that write up, I detail my complete audio upgrade. If your plan is to replace the amplifier eventually with an aftermarket one (with TOSLINK input), I would recommend you get a long toslink cable and connect it to the rear of the DAINAV unit and leave it in an accessible place so that you can run it to the rear later on. Other than that, I don’t think there is anything else you need to do now. Thanks for watching and for your support. Looking forward to hear about your installation. Please come back and comment!

    I'm still fighting to get the DSP working properly. Have you ever had that issue? All of my speaker play at the same volume no matter how I set the bias. I was told by the factory that has to do with the CANBUS unit. The CANBUS screen says I have LuZheng, Porsche, Macan which seems correct. Any suggestions?
    BTW, I think this is the Fiber Optic Decoder Most that you replaced with one off Amazon - but I'm not really sure. I bought that but have not installed it because it lacks the fiber optic link to the radio control unit that the original has.

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  3 місяці тому

      Do you have Bose or an aftermarket amp? The output levels and channel gains are set in the amplifier, and if you have Bose there is no access to it. I think you can have some control over subwoofer from the unit, but I think that’s it. The DSP in the unit allows you to tune the audio using a number of frequency ranges. It is more helpful than the PCM3.1 which only has treble and bass. I don’t think this is a function of the CANBUS. CANBUS is the interface with car functions. And you do have the right selection in the CANBUS.
      You can get now a SPDIF to MOST conversion box in AliExpress. I will post link later on. But I can tell you that the Amazon box, although it uses the analog input, it has more definition in its output.

      @@porscheDIY Thanks. I've written to the seller for help. They are the ones who asked about CANBUS but might not have know if that was the correct issue to chase. I've also asked about 3 other things. #1 - The right screen of the instrument cluster shows the radio station playing. If I push the rotary knob, I go to the next screen that should list programmed channels. But programmed channels do not list (they should). I can scroll the knob in one direction to change channels down numerically, but not up. #2 is that zoning does not work. No matter where I set the bias (back right, left front) the music always sounds the same. #3 is that My SIM card does not read.
      I'll let you know if they have any helpful feedback.

      If you look at the video, you’ll see that you will still have access to Canbus related controls from the Android unit. But you will lose certain things that you have with PCM. In my case, and most of who have done this change, these are things that are really not important and never used and actually don’t even miss right now.
      You will also lose communication between PCM and MFD. There is a wire that connects between the two that you won’t be using anymore. That is sending nav and music information to the MFD.

      @@astrokok Rear view camera is a yellow RCA connector that comes out of the quad hardness adapter, and it connects to another wire that goes to the rear of the unit. You’ll see that in my video. If the connection is OK, then a few things you need to check. You need to go to hidden menu in settings (the one that ask you for a passcode), the passcode is 3368, and change rear view camera parameters there. If you have a single rear view camera and the settings are for surround, you will have issues. The settings need to match what you have. If the settings are fine, you need to remember that when placing car in reverse, you need to take e-brake off in order for the camera to activate.

    This new radio unit is amazing. I installed a 10.4" unit 3 years ago and to get a much larger GPS screen. It was a big improvement over the car's original screen - but with some issues. THIS 12.3" unit improves radio reception, screen clarity, speed, volume adjustment between GPS voice and radio (you can make the GPS a bit louder than the radio), internet connectivity, etc. Very nice looking and very nice upgrade to my 2016 Macan.

    • @porscheDIY

      I love the 12.3” screen. The only features you’ll lose is whatever sport chrono displays you’ll have in PCM. But you still keep MFD sport chrono display and full sport chrono functionality. You also lose the connection to MFD, so any information you have now like maps is lost. But in my case, these were features I would not use… ever. Thanks for watching.

    Thanks so much for making this video as I'm doing the same headunit replacement on my Macan S because mine just kinda blacked out on its own. Just a question about the mod itself. Is there any feature I'd be losing by goign with an aftermarket headunit in comparison to getting a new OEM headunit?

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  7 місяців тому

      I believe I talk about this in either this or the installation video. You will lose PCM communication with instrument cluster, hence, you won’t have the map or gps options in the MFD. If you have intersection lighting, you will lose that too as it depends on GPS location to turn both static cornering lights on at the same time when you approach an intersection. Note that static cornering light will still work because that will activate with steering wheel. You also will lose altitude information. I believe that’s all.

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  9 місяців тому

      I purchased the DaiNav unit. The vents are functional… you will lose a bit of flow, but it is not that much. No need to reprogram anything at the dealership. If you connect a diagnostic tool, you will see a couple of passive faults related to the removal of the PCM, but that are passive and nothing that will impede function of the vehicle. You won’t even see those faults unless you connect a diagnostic tool. You will lose the PCM integration in the MultiFunction display, like the maps and ability to see what is playing.

    With all the research you’ve done, I trust your judgement on which Android unit to consider. Before I jump into this one, do know if the units with “NAV, BT” soft buttons suddenly showing up on Alli are the newest ones, or probably previous to the one you installed? Hey Greg! Thanks for your support. On your questions…. The unit that said NAV, BT, etc… were early testing units. They changed that to the skip buttons. These are programmable buttons, you can change the function. Does the dashboard still show the radio channels, Music info etc. ? And can you still use the steering wheel controls to adjust sound etc?
    Thanks

      Thanks. No, the information you refer to comes from PCM. Since PCM is removed, there is no way to connect the Fakra wire that sends signal to the instrument panel MFD. On the steering wheel control, only a few controls remain. I describe that in detail in this video.

      Thanks. Would you recommend buying the unit in overall? I think it makes the interior look a couple of years new contra the OEM one.@@porscheDIY

      @@JonasSkriver If I had to do this again, I would. Like you said, and I think I said in the video, this unit transforms the interior of the car. It makes it look more modern. It had reduced the amount of times I think about trading my Macan.

      @@JonasSkriver did they? I have to check that. I covered the red dot with an NFC button in gloss black which do a good job at covering it. I also programmed the NFC to open my WiFi connection automatically for the rare times when CarPlay doesn’t connect automatically. I also added the OEM buttons myself. Had to drill a bit to open them up.
