I rarely comment on things but the bridge you walked across was used in John Carpenter's Escape from New York as the 69th Street Bridge towards the end of the movie! Most of the movie was actually filmed in Saint Louis! Love your videos Jacob! My wife and I hope to meet you somewhere one day!
That's awesome!
Didn't know that.
Ha! Beat me to it. Yes, St. Louis. The(filming) location of dystopian hellscape.
Unfortunately the Kerry sisters were murdered on the bridge by being forced to jump.
My neighbor was an extra in that movie and several classmates made their way out there during filming
The abandoned pavilion where the homeless were living, formerly was the entrance to The President’s Casino on the Admiral riverboat. It closed years ago. It couldn’t compete with the much larger casino next door.
St. Louis used to have a beautiful riverfront. I remember visiting the McDonald’s and Burger King boats when I was little and the Admiral was always a neat sight, too. It’s sad that they’ve really let it go like this 😢
The Chain of Rocks Bridge is a filming location for the Movie Escape from New York (with Kurt Russell).
As a somewhat new viewer, I would love to see a Route 66 series whenever you can make it work. That would be awesome!
6:54 “…Old black water 🌊 keep on rollin’ Mississippi moon 🌙 won’t you keep on shinin’ on me…”
"Keep on shinin' your light, gonna make everything alright."🎶
Good ole Doobies.
The old riverfront had a Robert e Lee riverboat. A real paddle wheel. It did excursions, evening dinner shows and weddings. Along with the admiral we had a very vibrant waterfront back then. Welcome to my home town.
it makes me so sad to see what Lacledes landing has become. As a younger man, I spent many a weekend going from bar to bar and restaurant to restaurant. As well as doing the cruises and the good old VP Fair on the arch grounds.
Worked with a guy who was a chef there.
It was actually a barge , but beautiful ,
Saint LOUIS RIVER FRONT IS A GHOST TOWN , EXCEPT FOR LOOKING AT THE upside down horseshoe called the
ARCH
Jacob. You’ve made this adventure, so much fun, and I appreciate you doing this. I didn’t even know there was a highway for the Mississippi river following all the way along down and you made it really exciting with your stops of museums and everything else. Very educational and real fun. Thank you for sharing. It is really appreciated. You just take care and I’m enjoying this route with you on your journey.🫶🏻🤠
The little castles in the river are probably intake pipes for the water works
Yes, they are along with the control room and living space for the operator. Now a days their operation is controlled remotely and very rarely does city water let anyone inside.
I do agree about going to the Hill to get toasted ravioli. Also another good place is imo's pizza which is a regional pizza chain.
Thanks for another adventure. I've been on that riverboat, but unfortunately, it was evening, so I really appreciated seeing the Arch during the day.
Best Toasted Ravioli in St Louis is at Mama”s On The Hill.
I agree with you! Gift shop ravioli isn’t gonna be the best! Hehehe
This series is amazing! We are long time fans. This series is so interesting and entertaining ! Bravo sir!
That paddle wheel isn’t hooked up to a motor, it’s just Free willing. Them boats have regular props under them like a modern boat.
He needs to ride the Nanchez wherever it is on the Mississippi
One of your best road trips yet! Thank you.
You and Adam are on a weight loss journey.. amazing how great you guys are looking❣️
The abandoned river front pavilion you seen was where the Admiral (built 1907) used to sit. As a kid it was a cruise ship that had music, dinner and live music. Then it left for the south for a while then made its way back to St. Louis as a Casino. Then it became too old for repairs and it was destroyed.
I'm glad you are enjoying your trip, Jacob ❤️
Welcome to St. Louis!! As a native I can tell you that true toasted ravioli (or t-ravs) are breaded then deep fried. The sauce can make all the difference also. I agree with the folks who say go to The Hill where you'll find wonderful Italian restaurants and some of the best t-ravs in the city. There is a bbq place in downtown (Salt & Smoke across from Busch Stadium) that makes brisket t-ravs which are so good!
This was a fun video. I went to St. Louis with my family when I was younger. I didn't know about the river cruise. I'd like to go back and do that someday. I was surprised to see the top of the arch divided into two sections. When I was there years ago, you could go up and down either side and walk all the way across the top.
That’s exactly what I was thinking too! You could walk all the way across the top
Be careful, my friend got mugged at the arch! 😢
Yes a summer Route 66 tour please!
Not sure if youll see this but that Monument to Robert E Lee is actually the same Lee from the Civil War. He was an Engineer before he was in the military
it the same Robert E Lee he was part of what is now known as the army engineer corps it is a monument to his service as a united states army engineer. because the river was starting to w ash the western bank or the river giving the harbor trouble and threaten parts of the city at the time.
And it was Colonel Robert E Lee who supervised the pilings that were driven to vary the Mississippi river flow from the eastern shore to the west, essentially changing the economics of this area fundamentally. He was with the Corp of Engineers at the time.
I grew up in Saint Louis. So glad you finally saw the sights!(some of them)! Good raviolli is the hill, even frozen ones from the local store are good, good raviolli is up to personal tastes of mixture. Many are different, but it is delicious all the same! Try as many as you can, you be the judge!❤
Would LOVE to see you do Route 66 again.
With Jenn would be amazing too....
I doubt I will ever get to do Route 66 or the Great River trail either. .. my hubby and I are getting up there in ages and our bodies are falling apart now...we loved to drive places like Pugeon Forge and Florida plus all over our home state of Michigan including upper Peninsula which looks just like Kentucky...gorgeous..and a very long way up to the top too ...hoping we can be back on the rod this summer so we can visit my grandparents and dad's grave up near Mackinac City ..❤but would love to see Jenn do Route 66 with Jacob. He would love to show her all the things he has seen before
@@denisedarnell1641 I'm sorry to hear about your and your hubby's health, Denise. I really hope you get to experience Route 66 by yourself as well. It's an amazing adventure!
Sir knocking it out of the park on this trip i can't explain it just a high level of excitement
Welcome to The Lou, home of baseball’s greatest team the Cardinals. ⚾️ Carpet the Jaccobagger
when i was younger i use to hang out at chain of rocks , welcome again the mo
The Robert E Lee u featured on this video, the engineer that helped with the navigation of the Mississippi River is the same civil war general of the confederacy.
Hi Jacob good to see you visit the arch again stunning views...XXX
Quick correction, it was actually THE Robert E Lee who engineered the Mississippi to be closer to St Louis. Not a different one. He did that many years before he became the civil war general he is known for today.
Before he turned into a traitor.
Might be time to let go. If Lincoln could forgive I guess we could. @@fancypants4226
@@SLYGARR When you're right, you're right...and you're right.
I had an easier time forgiving Gen'l Longstreet, though.

Lacledes Landing has been changing a lot over the last several years. It used to be a popular nighlife spot and place to go before Rams games. Im interested to see what it will be like in the next couple years.
Beautiful view
I got my first postcard (picture) from you. Handsome guy!
Jacob. You were meant to do this!!! I mean traveling and showing the world❤ you are so good at what you do!! I always enjoy your videos. And you and Jen are good together too😊😊😊
Years ago I worked at a Friendly's restaurant and we had deep fried ravioli on the menu and it was one of my favorite things to eat 😋 A summer time trip on Route 66 sounds like a great idea to me 🌟 there is more to see then 🤩 I love how much joy You are getting from this adventure Jacob 💖 and that brings me joy as well ❣️ As always, Thank You for bringing Us along with You 🙏💝😻♾️
Morning Jacob thanks for sharing this St Louis area. That bridge 🌉 was interesting to see you walk it across. Take care my friend.🤓📸✌️
The abandoned dock area was the old casino on The Admiral. Also go anywhere in 'The Hill' area for better Toasted Ravioli (T-ravs for short). Outside that one area, Syberg's is a local restaurant with several locations with some of the best T-ravs.
Being in that pod by myself would totally freak me out !!!! 😮 don't think I could do it !!!!! Thanks Jacob ❤ enjoying this daily journey 😀
My wife is a St Louis native
She says Nick and Elena’s pizza has the best toasted ravioli.
We need a "Cruising with The Carpetbagger" series in the future. He would be like me going on a LOT of cruises. Have fun Jacob!
There are Riverboat cruises overnight you can take down the Mississippi River. They are not cheap, but they are similar to cruise ships, except smaller. They cost over $1,000 to book a room on the riverboat.
Your camera is wonderful! Thanks for offering us the candle to smell, added to the feeling of traveling with you 😊
21:10 I went up the arch on Friday, May 17th and we had the projections. So, it seems like they just had an issue with them on Tuesday. Also, the Cardinals game was indeed suspended due to rain and resumed on Wednesday! -Andrew
The abandoned pavilion at 28:50 used to be the entrance of the "Admiral" boat which hosted the President Casino inside. It was a floating casino and hotel. Sadly the boat was completely scrapped and the whole area is now abandoned.
First time commenting thanks for all your great videos in the hard times never know what ppl go through so just need a escape, something like that .. stay safe keep traveling
Man what a great picture almost looks 3D at times. I like it
Go to mud island in Memphis TN but don't for get reelfoot lake in tn
Hey that abandoned thing is an old entrance to a casino. They used to only allow gambling on the water.
Thank you Jacob. You just inspired me to post an old picture I took on 'The Becky Thatcher'.
PS, you should have gone up that curved road and shown what they're doing where the ' Chain of Rocks Amusement Park' used to be.
Whoa, I was hoping that you wouldn't get to St. Louis until Saturday. My mom and I will be there this weekend.
The Hill is a different area. Delicious food.
Good Afternoon Jacob 🙋🏽. enjoy your day ‼️😃👍.
Disclaimer: I am not a native St. Louisan, so to some degree maybe I'm not the greatest spokesperson for Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. But people line up to get it. Supposedly it's not just cheapie ice milk like other custard stands sell, but it's real custard, with eggs in it...or something. Jacob might like to try that.
Mississippi Nights, one of the best music venues ever, used to be on the landing. Until the casino came in and took over and made it a parking lot. Look up the history on it if you aren’t familiar. 😢
Mama's on the Hill for the best toasted ravioli ever!
You're a cool cat, CB! 😎💯🔥
Another river boat ride 😊
Awesome thanks for sharing this with us today 🐱🐱🐱
Probably old news, but Jacob, the new camera is looking super crisp! Really enjoyed what looks like wider shots?
The toasted ravioli is actually just deep fried ravioli. It is delicious. I won't eat regular ravioli anymore. It's got to be toasted.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video - please be safe out there🌞🌻
I remember when you 1st went up in the arch . Interesting paddle steamer ride . Sad that a lot of areas experinceing empty store fronts . Keep Safe❤Keep Well ❤
Olive Garden has toasted ravioli, which is actually fried
Did the same riverboat cruise and went to the top of the arch 2 years back. Was pretty cool but of course I was really there for the Cardinals games. :-)
Mamas on the hill has the best toasted ravs
Kudos to your UA-cam Channel, Jacob! 👍👍👍👍 I know an individual who was in the high school marching bandand the school's marching band traveled to St. Louis and the band road up to the top of the arch.
You would be amazed at how many times those bridges have been hit by boats. 😮 😱
Wow the view up there looks awesome! 🤩
Sad to see Lacledes Landing so abandon. Back in the 90”s it was awesome. But trash took over the great cities. Last time was at Lacledes, my car was broken into. The popo couldn’t care less. Never been back. It hasn’t changed.
Loved your St. Louis video!! I live near Alton Illinois, just across the river from St. Louis. Love your Arch coverage. Some of the best toasted ravioli is at Imo’s pizza and Ravanelli’s. Thanks for showing our city!! ❤
Mammas on the hill is an Italian restaurant where a cook accidentally dropped ravioli in the deep fryer and a local delicacy was born. Many will say that it is the best place to get toasted ravioli (or t-ravs as the locals call them) it is arguably the best because it was the first, but many many local restaurants have put their own spin on the recipe so it is a St. Louis tradition to try them anytime they are on the menu so you can find your personal favorite. Me personally as a St. Louis native, born and raised I would say.Farrotto’s in rock hill (st Louis county) has the best. But I’m sure many many people will argue. Everyone has their favorite and that is the beauty of T-Ravs.
You need to take the nanchez steam river boat I didn't know where it resides but might be a cool ride
In my life I've been there twice in the Arch. Once in the daytime, and once at night! Both were spectacular!
Never heard of toasted ravioli before but I do like pizza rolls too. And pizza is the only food that I have no preference if it's hot or cold.
I like cold leftover chicken as well as cold pizza too
@@denisedarnell1641 The perfect box lunch(es)!
Hey... You,, Carpetbagger, I was at the arch in the 70's,,, And the Museum,, 15:49, still there. Small world we live in.

Classic Carpetbagger. Back to basics. Glad you are having a good time!
Best toasted ravioli Tony's in Alton❤
St. Louis took away the riverside camps to reduce crime. Did not help. They should follow through and clean up the area. That possibly could have been the president casino dock. Replaced the admiral and due to a breakaway barge moved up river before tanking and moving to New Orleans.
I loved this tour! Thank you for showing.
Anywhere but the arch cafe would be good. IMO’s pizza is a St. Louis staple and has really enjoyable toasted ravs.
Another awesome video, Jacob. I'm looking forward to the next. Take care my friend, and as always, safe travels .
Thanks Jacob for this awesome adventure. I've been lucky enough to not have to evoke the playlist,as I haven't missed a day yet. I do hope you are having as much fun as you make it look. Thanks again Mr Carpetbagger for a journey well worth taking.
There use to be a McDonald’s river boat in stlouis a long time ago
Excellent Jacob.
Thank you sir.
We need a Carpet Cruiser! With a Carpetbobble head at the helm! Do it!
Go to a restaurant on the Hill for toasted ravioli.
What a unique old place, I’d love it.
So fun! Love StL
The Hill in St Louis has the best toasted raviolis!!!!!
Another good one.
Hey there is Cape girardeau Mo. And you could eat at famous Port Cape dinner
There smoked mushrooms with cheese are fantastic
Sikeston here
I lived in Cape for a while. Now living in Michigan. Still have family down there. Beautiful city. Miss being there. Haven't been back there in 5 years. The Port Cape has awesome ice cream.
Thanks You for another great 🎉 Video 😊
Fab watching your vlogs 😊
Order the sauce extra. I can’t eat dry ravioli 😢
*Loved this!*
You should try Fritz soda that comes from St. Louis chian Rock bridge is open to vehic once a year for route 66 fest
I think I like the gift shops the most. They all have about the same thing, just with different themes.
"Here, smell it..." 🤣
Vessels intended for navigation of coastal and inland waters are generally called boats, while ocean-going vessels are generally called ships....thank you google! 😅
