Really enjoy your daily reports on the cottage. I know Michael has spent a lot of time and money on the chimney repair but it will have a limited time before deteriorating again. Michael should look into having the chimney relined. Basically a long tube is put down the chimney and centred using blocks. Fire proof mortar is poured down the outside of the tube then it is inflated like a tyre. The pressure squeezes the mortar into all the brick crevices and creates a seal. When the tube is deflated it’s pulled out and leaves a smooth lining that can be swept regularly. This is necessary if you’re burning coal which produces a lot of soot. Just a thought 🤔

Luckily the brick chimney had some integrity left and made sure most of the smoke still went outside, even though some of it went into the house.
Despicable that someone would sell shoddy material that could have had disastrous results for human life! I am appalled.
You should get a Carbon monoxide detector especially if you are going to burn coal as it is harder to smell leaks. Good Job!
