I test drove Cayen, Q7, X5, GLE snd Lexus LX. Me and my wife were amazed by interior of GLE. Combination of aluminum and wood and interior design is on another level. We finally chose GLE and I'm enjoying every second of driving this beautiful car.
Like you guys said, it comes down to personal preference and one is more “classy”and one is more “sporty”. I don’t think you could go wrong with either one.

The only difference is that the bmw x5 has a lot of electrical problems. I had an x5 for almost 2 years and had numerous issues with it. Now I own a mercedes gle 450 for almost 3 years, and it's still going strong with no issues whatsoever. Mercedea is just an amazing car, in my opinion. Personally, I'll never go back to bmw x5. That's just my opinion and my experiences with both cars.
I have the X5 and I love it. Have had it about a year now and it’s been great. You guys forgot to mention the great voice commands and response to driver input. It’s very sporty and only dislike that it’s caused me to be a faster driver 😂
You can't go wrong with either of these choices. I drive the new GLE and very impressed with the level of luxury and refinement. I plan to buy the BMW X5 or X7 because it's a more fun daily driver in comparison. That's really what it comes down to. Luxury and refinement vs luxury and fun to drive. But I will say that imo the service contract for 3 years of free maintenance on the Bemmer could be the deciding factor. And the base BMW engine is still more powerful than the upgraded Mercedes 450.
Keep in mind that a base GLE450 is better loaded than a base X5. Vented seats, 360 view cameras, powered tail gate are standard on GLE but for X5 you need to pay to get them. I did the configs on both and X5 will be 6000 dollars more expensive than a GLE when they are both loaded with the features I want.

I've owned a couple X5's. Just recently rented a GLE for 2 weeks in New Zealand. I was impressed, not just by the newness of a great SUV but also by the smoothness felt better when going over pumps etc. I believe this is due to the air suspension system. My fiancee was the passenger and she also said she noticed a major difference. I was shocked to see these guys give a vote to BMW on this. BMW is more sports-oriented and you feel every turn. The GLE was much more comfort driven. This is coming from someone thats owned 3 X5's :)
Exactly. Some of these reviewers just say anything. I guess they either didn't pay attention or didn't want to appear biased. Everyone knows nothing rides like a Mercedes-Benz. Maybe a Cadillac but definitely not a bmw. I've ridden in several bmws. Talk about a harsh ride 🤢 my brother owns a 5 series and my Chevrolet rides better 😂
GLE450 was my first Benz after 4 BMW in 2021. After 3 years and 78k miles I am still extremely satisfied with this car. Next car will again be the Benz, love its comfortable luxurious overall feel and do not miss any of 'sportive' BMW character.
The interior of the MB just doesn't do it for $85K. I also thought the BMW should've been awarded another point for its drop down tailgate function. It is super handy.
I purchased the Gle450 and had issues with the windshield wipers and the dealership kept on turning me away by saying it’s because the summer heat and it will get better when the cooler weather gets here. The wipers skips and stutters so loudly. I sold it within 2 months and got a 2023 BMW X5. I made the right decision.
Consumer Reports says GLE is the second least reliable vehicle sold in the USA after the Jeep Wrangler and BMW is the third most reliable automotive brand after Toyota and Lexus. CR ranks MB as a brand dead last. Although CR didn't have a sample big enough to be deemed scientifically valid to rank some smaller brands like Jaguar and Alfa Romeo.
Consumer reports gave the Tesla the highest rating ever. Now we know Tesla quality control is actually horrible. I don’t know what happened to CS but few people have faith in them anymore.
GLE looks more massive and expensive than the X5. I think it also looks more exclusive and may be not as common as the X5 on the road. Overall quality, the X5 may be better, but most people will not drive these for more then 4-5 years anyway.

I tested the GLE over the weekend. It has a lot of power and presence but the quality of assembly and materials inside the car is disappointing and there is a lot of road and wind noise. So I checked I found that there is talk about it on UA-cam. It turns out that this vehicle is manufactured in America (Alabama) and intended for the American market. All the comments in the video are from those who purchased the vehicle and complain about poor plastic and rattling noises. There is a significant difference in the assembly quality of a Mercedes that is made in Germany or America or Hungary The BMW fit and finish is solid and much fun to drive even it is also made in the usa.
I've been appalled by the quality of the GLE and GLS. Things that were once aluminum, leatherette, or wood are replaced by low-grade plastics. For $84K in the second-tier GLS, one would assume the interior quality wouldn't even be of question. But here we are. As an aside, the South Carolina-built X5 has greater assembly and build quality.
Really, you should check out the interior of the GLE. In my opinion, it's much better than the X5. ( and I've driven both.). The Beemer is quicker and more agile than the Benz. However the Mercedes has more tech and, in my opinion, rides better than the Beemer.

In actual price comparison the GLE 350 with 4cyl was closer in price to the X5. AMG package, Driver comfort package etc, Making the X5 a much better choice for me. The X5 outperformed the 350 in all driving comparisons. 3rd row seats are really a specific need item. I have not had 6 or more people in a vehicle since school days (Mini Van) for me X5 and not even close

Very good review. I'm leaning towarda the Mercedes only because almost every friend I have had experienced a lot of issues with them. I can't remember ever seeing a Mercedes on the side of the road but I've see 3 BMWs just this past weekend
It may seem nutso, but I just can't get past the air vents on most MBs I see...including this one. It's almost as though MB is intentionally making them a focal point. I prefer interiors where the air vents blend in, as opposed to sticking out.
Depreciation hits the gle hard. X5 just has more soul. in terms of driving experience, choice of materials for interior, road presence x5 was better when I drove it. GLE felt so boring and quiet. Didn’t necessarily drive better than the X5 either when your just cruising
I test drove the X5M comp, GLE AMG 63s and the RSQ8. All are phenomenal but for quality, esthetic and ride I preferred the Mercedes and have not regretted my decision I’ve been a BMW fan for years owning numerous M vehicles but the last couple experiences have been underwhelming. Both are excellent, I’d suggest considering the local dealer as well as its importance often overlooked

Had both of the exact cars, if you have the money Benz is the best option but get a sports car as a second car. BMW doesn’t feel comfortable, everything feels cheap in it from the seats to the buttons and seating position etc make it feel like driving a sports car. On the other hand Benz has ver high quality interior, even plastics feels high quality. it’s very comfortable for drivers and the passengers (my kids hated the back seat of the bmw) Another difference is the driving. Benz feels like a boat, you don’t feel any pot hols etc, and continuously feel like driving on the clouds. BMW feels like it’s digging the ground, very sporty, quick reaction, you may have more fun driving BMW. I would rather drive luxury daily and have a sports car for the fun
I recently bought Mercedes GLE very similar to this one and I am in love with the car. I test drove five BMW X5s and did not find anything attractive or comfortable about that car. Head up display in X5 was extremely distracting. I am aware of what speed I'm going without it reflecting in the windshield. Comfort wise, the X5s drove just like Toyota Rav4 we rented in Costa Rica (just 4 chairs and a radio).
Also what’s the point of having a nice digital display if you have a heads up display? Maybe if your dash is outdated then it’s a cover up, but most packages require the heads up display if you have a new dash so it’s kinda moot. You still have to take your eyes off the road and use peripheral vision anyway.
