    Fincher is just a master. Gone Girl is my favorite film of his and you’ve done a great job at highlighting why that is.
    Also, I cannot talk about this movie without praising the revolutionary performance from Rosamund Pike! She was so beautiful and glacial but terrifying at the same time. Just simply outstanding.

    I love his thoughts and approach regarding filming his actors as much as possible along with doing countless takes etc. It feels like he’s trying to film the art of a story/scene or character at their creative peak....rather than filming a bunch of shots only to then try to turn those shots into art. He’s refreshingly unorthodox and an undeniable creative powerhouse. 💯 🏆

    Really good job man. Watched while eating midnight snack. Two quick tips though. Audio is everything. Especially with something that uses it as the catalyst for the piece. Tip 1 equalize the audio of all the clips as much as possible. Even if you have one that sound mostly left, take the same clip and copy paste it to the right. If it sounds more hollow than the others give it a bass boost. Consistency is key. 2nd tip. At the start and end of each clip use 3 frames or so to ease the audio in or out. If you don't you'll get that pop at the start of finish of it which happened several times in this. I have to so that with all my videos because I use quick cuts. Good stuff though man. Keep it up.

    very informative, I sometimes wonder about the right way to capture a performance... there are many times in music where the first take is almost always going to contain the unconscious elements that make a song fun to listen to repeatedly... in film (like with Kubrick) doing 100 takes sounds like it would dry out or kill certain qualities, but maybe professional actors are able to keep up

    • @DaCarnival
      @DaCarnival 3 роки тому +1

      Sidney Lumet said an actor has about 4 interesting takes in them before they dry up, but 4 takes is usually not enough to nail every (technical and artistic) aspect of a shot. So after take 4 the actor needs to "fill-up" again, and you start the repetitive climb towards a performative break-through. How long that climb is, depends on the actor, the scene and the situation. Anecdotally he shot a close-up with Marlon Brando for hours into the night and into overtime pay for the crew, because they both knew it wasn't working - until it did.

      Those commentary tracks are great! But some people do not have the access or funds to purchase the film with the commentary track. This video provides another way to access insight from Fincher along with content that isn't already on the commentary

    God Bless Actors! What though is the writer’s place in all this?

      Gillian Flynn did a lot for this film in adapting her book to the screen. Part of her place was to give the actors a foundation of character to work with. Rosamund repeatedly has mentioned going to Gillian with questions she had about Amy in order to understand how to play her character better

      The Director's Cut That’s terrific. I’ve been to several workshops in the Michael Checkov method (Anton’s nephew and a pupil of Stanislavsky) who recommended that the actor read the entire script seven times. If the right actor is playing the role all the repeated readings will enter the memory and the unconscious to draw on the actor’s memory. Thus informing h/her choices of attitude and gestures.

      @@stevenbosch429 That's interesting. I haven't heard many actors talk about how many times they've read through the full script before shooting. I'd be interested to know what the reading process is like for some. Thanks for sharing that method

      The teachers I can recommend are Ragnar Friednak and Joanna Merlin at the Michael Chekhov Association.

    This was obviously a great movie but I hated how it made me feel afterwards. I already had trust issues, and Amy's character made it 10 times worse. Now I'm paranoid and suspicious around smart girls, and I can't stand dumb girls, so basically I'm just fucked. I definitely took this movie too seriously, and I definitely need therapy.

    I'm a big David Fincher fan but I hated this movie! No relatable main characters. Both main figures was just assholes! And the weird pseude realism also seemed to me as if no stylistic decision had been made... Worst David Fincher movie ever in my opnion (even worst than Alien 3). I really don't get why people liked it that much...

      I was hooked through the whole thing. I think both of the main characters were relatable, both in their experiences as men and women in society today and their shortcomings were also relatable (though Amy’s shortcomings are LESS so, you know that whole, psychopath business). But I agree, there was some fleshing out I would have liked and in two and a half hours I’d think it would have been possible but I’m no director.

      Nah you're dead wrong in this claim. It is supposed to be a movie about unsympathetic characters. So you miss the point.

      This movie is about someone who can’t quit. And they’ll go any extent to make that happen. That made this movie a well thought through cinema. She was able to show her husband what cheating her would bring him. Truly terrifying.

    This is such a shit film! None of the acting is that believable and the whole scenario is almost as piss-poor as the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. I now steer well clear of Fincher films; they are crap!
