- A look through the main features of the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12 Synthesizer Module. Let us know what you think!
We're just starting out creating some video content so apologies for the camera focus being a little out, we'll have that sorted for the next video - it's all a learning curve, huh?
Very helpful, finally got mine back from the repair shop and can't wait to dive back in!
Great review, strangely underappreciated. Thank you.
Excellent tutorial, I picked one up last week....amazing sounds, yet really accessible. There's so much to explore! Goodbye GAS!
Hats off for the video only using the module, theres a man that knows his synths ;)
Exellent video , may i ask you sevral things if ya don't mind , i'm scratching my head between this and a Rev2 or even a take 5 / teo 5 (since they're compact and powerfull)
1) Stack A/B : is there a way to design a sound on A and then to make it binaural just by copy past or any other operation ?
2) When using only let's say Part A , is part A gets 12 voices or voices are loked 6 per part ?
3) Delay : can it go to chorus territory ?
You're absolutly right in your conclusion , this is the type of synth that it's either you start with a clear idea and do it , or get lost in experimenetation , getting crazy section per section witch i love, it's also great to experiment on each section , without detroying the previous ones , and letting you master each ones by sepending time on those
I do think Dave wa ahaead , this if re issued now woud smash a lot of contender ....specially if it had like 2fx slots and a multi mod filter : game over !
Nice review! Thanks!
Thanks for the demonstration, you did a great job! 2 Questions;
How many different wave forms are available to use with the wavetable?
And when using linear FM are you limited to sine waves or can any of wave shapes be used for the modulation osc and the carrier osc?
redirishmanxlt - I don't have the unit in front of me to double check, but I'm pretty sure there are around 12 "complex" waveforms in addition to the classic sine, pulse, saw, etc and the 3 noise types.
All the shapes can be used as FM carrier or modulation oscillators, you just turn up the FM amount on an oscillator and it will be modulated by the one below it.
Thanks for watching!
As Dave Smith himself said: The P12 was his personal favorite Prophet of all models. Stated on the first page of the manual. And he was right. None of the Prophets sounds as exciting as this one.
Great review, thanks! Reverb is also missing for me and comparison to the Peak is a fair thought - for the feedback: basically it can thicken up the sound (feature taken from the Minimoog, I believe) but I found that only rarely useful on my Pro-2.
what if you had a Pro 2, would it be possible to map the P12 module sliders to the Pro 2 sliders?
Crazy good review! It made me decide on the P12 module instead of the keyboard.
Seems very accessible and lots cheaper :)
That's great, I'm really glad it was useful!
Great review! The only thing that did not make any sense is the comparison with Deepmind... ???.... Of course, instead, it makes sense to compare it with Peak.
Thank you , you saved my day
My evolver goes out of control with only one voice lol.
Does it has the same features and specs as the prophet 12 with keyboard?
Pretty much! The key differences are just in how you map the controllers, on an external midi keyboard - the sound engine is all the same so there's no real difference in the sounds you can achieve, just in how you achieve them.
Snug Recording Co thank you!
viersen it does but to get the most out of it, you need a midi controller that has two assignable sliders as ‘slider 1 & 2’ are big modulation sources which are programmed extensively on the P12 keyboard.
@@MrKKmusic which would you prefer?
Mike Boof go with the P-12 keyboard. While they do a good job of keeping the menu drilling to a minimum on the module, the keyboard is more than worth the extra money. It’s really a beautiful synth and the keyboard allows you easier access, which makes a big difference in the creative process
can you do chord arppegiation?
I don't think so as far as I remember. You could obviously tune a couple of oscillators to make some simple chords I guess, might get out of key easily though.
Snug Recording Co yeah I tried that. You can do that with a prophet 6 I think
pretty blurry... can barely read the screen
Although you did one of the best demonstration of Prophet 12 , but I think we like to see the module more than your face. No offense !!
Plenty of pics available of this synth, so you can look them for hours ;)
