I don't wanna be that guy,, but why bother watching this video when the title literally said "guide to multiplayer". Obviously this video will help you play with other people
There's one more I'd like to point out! On multi-player, if player 2 reaches floor 100 in the skull mime they also receive the special reward. They can receive that same award at least twice if they reach floor 100 again, giving them a nice advantage over player one as tank!
I can't find anything online about this. Are you saying player 2 must be with player 1 the first time and somehow gets player 1's reward and then their own the second time.
@@projectdaaltaran my player 2 did arrive at floor 100 with me the first time at roughly the same time. But afterward I did not need to accompany them. I don't know if it works in 1.6 but it works in 1.5.
There are some disadvantages on multiplayer. I've been playing with my wife and son for the last weeks. One instance that is REALLY annoying is that doing the skull cavern is now REALLY hard. Time doesn't stop when you're eating, so you die much easier. Also, the default "knockback" doesn't work as it does on single player. Monsters keep walking to you even after you hit them. One other really annoying thing is that when someone is in a cutscene (and even though I know most of them from heart, my wife and 8 year old son don't, so they have to sloooooooowly read everything) time is not paused. You can pass out at 2 AM if you are in a long-ish cutscene. There's a mod that will make you invincible while you're eating and also pause when any player is in a cutscene. We've been using that and it removes those annoying problems without making it that much easier.
i noticed the cutscene one and it really has fucked me over cause ill be trying to get home, get a cutscene ive never seen. then get out of it and pass tf out and im like "well thats great, a new experience just cost me 2000g from Harvey."
7:20 A great use for this is the Qi Fruit quest, me and a friend of mine were like 10 Qi Fruits off on the final day, thus we tried farming them at the same time for like 100 fruits. This worked like 1/10 times, but was enough to save the quest for us :D
yeah, everytime me or my friend had a cutscene we asked for a pause so we wouldn't lost all day to see it ^^, or when we had to eat in the mine or skull cavern, opening menu would stop the enemies from attacking us during the little animation (which saved us a lot of time)
On the last point at 8:31 : There is actually a gameplay use for the tone shift for the other co-op players. The fish catch sound is different than player 1’s. Absolutely massive for split-screen fishing
Something else to bring up is how different professions work in multiplayer. Mainly, the ones that affect sale prices will cover everyone even if they don’t have it. So if one person has the Artisan profession, that affects the sale prices of all artisan goods, regardless of who ships them. The professions that affect actions, on the other hand, are only for that player. So only crops planted by the Agriculturalists will get the speed growth bonus. Still, these can be exploited. Have the agriculturalists plant crops for the bonus, then everything can be processed for more money. This works even if you have separate wallets.
fun fact about the wallet on co-op: if you start the file with a seperate wallet, all players will have 500 gold. you can them go to Mayor Lewis' house and choose to combine the wallets into a shared wallet, combining the money all together (1000-2000 shared gold, depending on the number of players) if you start with a shared wallet, you'll just have 500 gold shared accross all player. so always start with seperate wallets, and just combine them later if you want!
Any idea how going from shared to separate works? My roommates and I started with separate wallets and might move to shared. However if we don't like that and want to move back to shared. My guess is that it would evenly divide it. I just haven't been able to find anything with it.
There is an exploit that can be done that allows you to complete certain bulletin board and qi’s quest without actually having to give the specified item. A quest such as the Robins hardwood quest on the bulletin board. If you place all the hardwood into the bin immediately after closing the menu you reopen it. The quest will be completed but you will be able to grab whatever items you put in back out. I believe this is multiplayer exclusive as there is a delay between the quest being completed after closing the menu.
mobile can actually play multiplayer!! first step : you need to stay on the intro with the stardew valley sign 2nd : tap the leaf on W 2 times 3rd : tap on the leaf on V twice 4th : tap on the leaf on S then Y and S again and last Y 5th : click on the " ? You forgot a few things. First, all farmhands lack the knockback that the host has. You will notice a significant difference. Second, unless the host raids the coal carts/backpacks in the mines, the farmhands can raid them again and again and again.....we did this a lot and it never fails. Well, until the host gets the coal. Same with crates in the mines that appear in bunches. In some levels there are a dozen or more crates and barrels for you to destroy and loot - if the host does not destroy them, they will spawn again. This is of course only for the regulat mine, since the Skull Caverns are randomly generated.
Hardmode activated, since I’m the only one who can do combat in our multiplayer and I’m a farmhand! At least I know I’m not crazy after trying to learn about how to make skull cavern less horrible. Turns out I cannot 😌 Staircase time.
Thank you for making this! I remember requesting this topic a few weeks ago, but I didn't expect to see it out so quickly :) This will be great as a reference when my partner and I start up a new farm for Ver. 1.6!
One thing I've been curious about with multiplayer is how to handle Perfection. The biggest thing that I don't think the wiki makes clear is how to handle Stardrops. The for instance in our group is that we have the player who enjoys fishing and has been handling catching all the fish, but he's not really interested in marriage/roommate/etc, even just doing the wedding ring for the sake of getting the stardrop. It's for reasons, it's fine, but does that mean that we're out of luck in terms of hitting the Stardrop goal unless another one of us also gets Master Angler and married? I know that the other Stardrops are fine, it's just those two in particular.
Also, if you're buying items with limited stock in a menu (at the traveling cart or the iridium sprinkler at krobus's shop), as long as everyone has the shop open before anyone buys anything, each player can purchase the item. It still charges the price, but on a single friday four players could walk away with four iridium sprinklers.
How do profession buffs such as tiller or rancher work in multiplayer? Do they apply to just the person selling the item? Or are they shared if money is shared between players.
Personally for multiplayer I start the day with going straight to the mines well the other person does the daily chores before joining me in the mines once i reach the next check point
I have a problem on Multiplayer when im hosting my Farm my friend always disconnect saying lost connection or server close from 3 to 5 mins whenever he joins. I tried some fixes on the Community Post but it doesn't seem to work.
Does your saved file remember the progress of the other players who you play with? Or do the extra players have to recreate a new character each time? Do the homes of the added players stay there, or does the game load that player's multiplayer house when they join? Do NPC's stay in a relationship with players who you've added? Can you wipe their memories of them if that friend never intends to come back? I feel like i could think of a million questions. I hope this makes sense. Lol.
another thing i'd like to add: other players can appear in the background of cutscenes if they're in the same area! zero gameplay benefit, but we had a funny moment where my friend was watching Sam get told off by Mayor Lewis for skating on private property whilst i rummaged through those same houses' bins behind him
How to play without online without splitscreen?? I’ve been trying to play with my friend and closest we could get was her being able to control my keyboard remotely and me playing as player 2 with a controller… we wanted to play each with our own screen on each computer but idk how to 😅
I believe (at least on PS5) that the mines don't get randomized at all more then once per day, you get one seed, and that's it rocks and enemies don't respawn as well, which nerf fiber collecting and dust sprite farming a whole lot

So as a so and so who has never played stardew hidden ranch valley, and my friend has, can we just co op together? Should I play on my own? Do we share? Is it separate. Sorry I'm writing this after pausing the video at 2 seconds. Its like I really want to play ff6/3 on snes level of co op but story rpg. Or secret of mana. Oh yeah that hilarious intro is hey i do have one friend who is willing to play some games with me, only system in common switch. Cool co op games but mostly local. I got up in animal crossing newton fig leaf and was kinda meh after a while, I always mean to go back and clean up and maintain but its like multiplayer wise snoozeville
Ive always dismissed luck since i never felt it changed enough. Learning that it is averaged makes me wonder what it feels like in a single player farm
I found a better dupe exploit, If you have an auto collector both players can remove stuff at the same time, I'm assuming this is why two players can't access a chest together but auto collectors were probably forgotten
There are a few things that make multiplayer super frustrating to me, mostly the lack of time pausing. There are things that make up for it, if you can get everyone playing on the same page, like planting and watering a massive farm. Sometimes, the goofy interactions I have with my friends is more fun than actually getting things done, but overall, I prefer single player.
With what you said about luck. What would be your advice when it comes to scenarios in multiplayer where luck is important? Like going for deep dives in skull caverns, or panning for luck ring?
2 Mods i would love for multiplayer: One that reduces the rate at which time passes, since you can't pause it with inventory open. And one so that you can eat food without the prompt, i lost count of how many times i died at the mine because i clicked on the food but wasn't fast enough to press the yes button
Both of those mods exist. There are several time mods out there. The removal of food prompts is in the fast animation mod. However, someone on here mentioned that the player is invulnerable in the middle of the food prompt. If true, just keep your food easily accessible in the hottbar so you can quickly enter that action.
@@projectdaaltaran i played in multiplayer and you are not immune, only fter pressing yes you are immune. also, i think the fast animation one needs to be installed by all players, right?
@@Ricardo_Rick Multiplayer notes: Animations will be sped up smoothly for you, but other players may see them skip frames. If multiple players have it installed, some animation speeds may stack.
@Ricardo_Rick and you can use fast animation and just change all speeds to one, only checking to remove food prompts. This would remove an animation speed boosts.
That's the default farmer mod: www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/12421 It basically makes it so I don't have to set up my character every time I start a new farm, which is great when I start like 5 new farms to show things off in these guides lol
I'm playing multiplayer and I'm the host, but my friend I'm playing with can't get into the wizards tower and the adventure's place. The quest for these places just don't appear. Any help?
Just set up a new farm with my bf! He’s never played before so it’s nice for me to be aware of the differences so i don’t give him false info that is only true in Singleplayer
My boyfriend is lucky that I am his farmhand, because he gets twice the shipping bins, twice the money, twice the rewards, twice the everything just for doing something in the game! It doesn’t always happen but when it comes to special order, he gets a lot of extra stuff lol.
note that even though there is a way to get multiplayer on mobile, it is very buggy. It was never really supposed to happen, and it is hidden but you can just look up how to get it.
time not pausing in multipler definitely accounts for the advantages imo, it littlerslly is so frustrating and tbh i wish theyd make time slightly slower in multi player its so annoying
Hi! Thank you for this. I just have a question. Do I need to avail the nintendo membership to play the coop with a friend? Coz when I tried to host a coop it says I need to have a membership first :( I’m playing nintendo switch btw. Thanks if ever anyone will answer this
I heard the multiplayer servers on PC are GoG whether you play on Steam or GoG. I had a period of about 4 hours in February where we straight up could not play multiplayer unless we were on LAN because their servers went down.
I heard a rumor that when someone picks a profession, everyone gets the bonus (no stacking), so in a 4 player multiplayer game, it is possible for all professions to be active if everyone chooses a different path for every skill. Any truth to that?
Does anyone know if you create a farmhand via local play, can that existing farmhand be chosen via multiplayer on a different switch? My girlfriend is thinking of buying a switch and would love for her to be able to choose her already existing character when she gets online to play. Thanks for any info on this!
@@voidfloof You're right however not everyone may know this about these versions considering how PC Game Pass picks and chooses which games it wants to use console versions of. Just so happens in this instance that the PC Game Pass version is a true PC version as well.
The only downside to multiplayer is that you can't join with your own save file that you worked hard on, someone has to start fresh while the host can use their own pre-existing farm
Cant you remove a player in your hosted online game that doesn't play anymore and is taking up a spot? I have a friend who wants to join the game but can't just take over the old players character.
Well, I have a little question... I'm trying to play with my Friend on the Xbox but it doesn't work or when I create a farm in co-op mode, my friend can't join me. It always says that there are problems with the connection or something like that. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
If both players are in skull cavern does time run slow? I know in single player it runs slower. But what if we were both in skull cavern at the same time
Based on the Wiki, if you play on Multiplayer, the time will run normally. It didn't say anything when all players are in Skull Cavern, so.... Or just try it yourselves and time it.

I'll be joining a 4+ Player farm when the update releases o3o
My wish is to set up an active co-op farm that stays consistent. I've tried multiple times and they'veall fallen through due to scheduling.
But there's no code showing 😢 03:36
Thank you so much for helping me out
Good video I wish I had friends to play with
2 Mods i would love for multiplayer: One that reduces the rate at which time passes, since you can't pause it with inventory open.
@@Ricardo_Rick Multiplayer notes:
Animations will be sped up smoothly for you, but other players may see them skip frames.
If multiple players have it installed, some animation speeds may stack.
@Ricardo_Rick and you can use fast animation and just change all speeds to one, only checking to remove food prompts. This would remove an animation speed boosts.
@@Ricardo_Rick I haven't looked into it. Perhaps it was a mod. Someone should probably make a mod that makes you immune while in your inventory
I really wish I could play with someone else, but in the end you are on a mobile phone and the feature is not available 😞
1:53 what Mod is he using in the character creation that shows numbers 1-9 on the side?
That's the default farmer mod: www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/12421
It basically makes it so I don't have to set up my character every time I start a new farm, which is great when I start like 5 new farms to show things off in these guides lol
It doesn’t always happen but when it comes to special order, he gets a lot of extra stuff lol.
this is what we needed!!
note that even though there is a way to get multiplayer on mobile, it is very buggy. It was never really supposed to happen, and it is hidden but you can just look up how to get it.
time not pausing in multipler definitely accounts for the advantages imo, it littlerslly is so frustrating and tbh i wish theyd make time slightly slower in multi player its so annoying
But how do you stop the multiplayer disconnects?
There's supposed to be some fixes for that coming in 1.6!
I literally met my closest friend from a xbox group post like 4 years ago best homie around
can someone explain why you won’t get the option to select your room decoration from penny when you are on multiplayer?
And with the 1.6 update on mobile, we mobile users now have access to it! 😊 and in addition to it, you can play for up to 7 players
We have cross play between Steam and PC GamePass versions
Those are not different platforms. Steam is PC
@@voidfloof You're right however not everyone may know this about these versions considering how PC Game Pass picks and chooses which games it wants to use console versions of. Just so happens in this instance that the PC Game Pass version is a true PC version as well.
Buddy pilled friendmaxxer is crazy
I didn't know farm hands can be tone deaf! That's hilarious!
There's a multiplayer mod for Android which does work. There's third party application involved to host it so watch a tutorial on it.
Wait, so divorcing Penny won't give the other people an opportunity to marry her and get the event?
They can marry her, but the event won't trigger
@@salmence100 any reason for that? Does the love only spark once to 14 hearts?
Is this still video still vaild. Id like to start playing with my friend they are un the uk an im cali.
Does the starting grandpa scene will only play to host in multiplayer???
Can all players marry npcs or can only the host? How does the housing upgrade come into that?
I want to ask about Stardew Valley co-op mode, how can I play co-op without having to wait for the host to continue the co-op mode?
Well, I have a little question... I'm trying to play with my Friend on the Xbox but it doesn't work or when I create a farm in co-op mode, my friend can't join me. It always says that there are problems with the connection or something like that. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?
I always get confused with the skills, lika agriculturalist (do we all get bonuses? Does only the person planting the crop gets it?)
I wish a video was like this when I played multiplayer with that one person I dated when I played this the one and only time I did.
New update 1.6 mobile have multiplayer
I tried to play with my friend but every time I try to join, it tells me there are no cabins even though my friend put not one, but two cabins
Hello, i tried to find the invite code for the multiplayer mode but cant seem to? its just empty for some reason.
