Duderocks5539 not for a long while. The motor’s insulation was hanging down, part of the structure of the motor is cracked, the entire inside is rusted, and it demands more power than I can currently supply. Therefore, until I somehow get 1200+ dollars for a new motor, it won’t function. However, I am going to try to cosmetically restore the rest of it for the time being.
+BBoi00 00 Good. I just got a motor for the rotor but it has a bad centrifugal switch. It should be repaired in 2 weeks. After that we will get a 5 hp motor for it’s Paxton blower. Then the frame that holds the rotor and horn array. And finally the horns. The siren will be complete sometime this year. Maybe after summer.
The screamer isn't being restored at the moment due to it being 3 phase. I generally just try to grind off the paint on occasion on both the screamer and STL-10. I really don't have enough money at the moment to make the sirens functional, thus I'm just trying to get the paint and rust off of the sirens. It should be noted that I bought and put in new brushes in the STL-10, but the motor didn't turn. I'm going to have to eventually buy a new motor for it, and I really don't know what motor can serve as an STL-10 motor replacement besides a STH-10, so I'll probably have to E-mail Jeff as WSS sometime. Have fun with your siren, you're so lucky that you got such a rare siren. I thought I was lucky to have a Stl-10 XD
i have a three phase model that came from somewhere in cincinnati metro, mines in good condition. as far as the motor buzzing thats a good sign that the field is at least good. pop some new brushes in there and replace the springs and see how it goes then.
Tigers9596 the starter came with mine. Strange thing though. It's a original Aca installation setup, but inside this aca box there was a federal Sign and Signal motor starter.
7367Network yes I got this from west shore services a few years ago. If you look at some peoples old wss videos you can actually spot it, it's a Greyish silver color.
Wow I didn’t know that the STL-10s also use brushed motors
Seems like small brushes for that big motor.
When will it be completely restored?

That being said, how is your SONGS siren coming along?

What is the diameter of the impeller/chopper?
About 22 inches in diameter
same diameter as my sth-10, thanks!

How much do these cost?
From as far as scrap it will most likely cost from 75$ (inoperable condition) to 600$ (good condition).
You getting a phase converter anytime soon?
Tigers9596 no Im not it's just too expensive for me right now, and I think I may have accidentally unbalanced the chopper
That's too bad. I would get a phase converter if I didn't live in a highly populated area and pull 50 amps and ruin my house power.
Tigers9596 well actually now that I think about it maybe I could try a static phase convertor when I have money in the future :)
Static converters aren't good. If anything they damage the motor. My plan is to get a drive converter for $800 and a motor contactor for $200.

Where did you get this siren?
WSS. I think that's what he said in a video.
