Dylan's guitar and band ... they SLAY me. Then sandwich in Dylan's timless lyrics. And yeah, Dylan's vocal talent and range are incredible range. Slow Train Coming, Twwwwaaaasannnnnggg!!!
This era of Dylan gets unfairly trashed solely because he openly proclaimed his faith and the critics judged him based on that rather than the actual songs.
"It's Alright Ma, I'm Only Bleeding"... Not just a song, a lesson on life..... OR, for the funniest song ever written.... "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" (song name) will make you laugh at Bob's incredible sense of humor.
25 years ago and the lyrics are just as applicable today as then, so much for progress. Prophetic words and scything through the false values that we are exposed to everyday.
I've been following Bob since the sixties. I first saw him in '74 with the Band. He never ceases to speak truth to the heart with a message that's often mythical in it's universality.
Thanks for playing and reacting to "Slow Train" by Bob Dylan. My favorite verse is "People starving and thirsting, grain elevators are bursting, Oh, you know it costs more to store the food than it do to give it, They say lose your inhibitions, Follow your own ambitions, They talk about a life of brotherly love, show me someone who knows how to live it, There’s a slow, slow train comin’ up around the bend". Take care.
My favorite verse as well, in a song with so many outstanding verses. I don't even remember how or when I got this album but I've listened to it a thousand times...
I had the same experience with Dylan: thought I liked his writing and songs, but wasn’t fond of that voice. But the more you listen and absorb Dylan, the more you accept that the voice a part of the entire artistic expression. He’s brilliant.
Just before each tour, Bob creates a new voice for himself. It also adapts over a tour so a song first night sounds completely different on the last night.
Can't tell you how much I enjoy seeing you discover Dylan. As you have very astutely noticed, he is inspired by heaven to write his words. All of his songs are a form of gospel, and he is truly knocking on heaven's door. He has never sold his soul. I listened to the interview where he was asked the question, and he did not say a word about selling his soul to the devil. I have seen him deliberately allow people to get the wrong idea about him. He seems to enjoy it. As he put it so clearly, I can quote him: ....'the dust of rumors covers me, but if the arrow is sharp, and the point is slick, it can pierce through dust no matter how thick.' Dylan has more albums than any other artist that ever lived, many of them just emerging. He wants his audience to have sharp points, blunt points and camp followers can piss off. Thanks so much for revealing this man to your listeners. Peace and Blessings. ethermail
Oh yeah, Dylan with his Gospel like message, with Mark knopfler on guitar, fantastic stuff.. another great album "infidels" check it out when you get a chance.
Love ur Dylan reactions...we are blessed to live at the same time as Dylan...like living when Shakespeare was writing....if you want more political dylan....try Political World...or simething more mysterious...yey Man in the Long Black Coat....more wordy...Jokerman....more geared towards lost love...try...You're a big Girl Now or Most of the Time....you will thank me later!!!!!
This was Dylan's first album after his conversion to Christianity. Mark Knofler agreed to play on the album before he realized the religious content of the album. I think Knofler's contribution to this song is amazing. Blows me away. Bob did okay too. Lol. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Stephen. Super song. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
@@docsavage8640 lots of reasons. Maybe he follows a diff religion? Maybe he felt tricked? Some religious people can be very overbearing and he regretted committing to the project. Maybe he’s a committed atheist and doesn’t want people to think he supports religion…

My favorite all time artist. Bob turned a lot of people off with this album, but not me, it came out when I needed it most. I saw him in early 80 when he toured off this album.
I'm not typically a fan of religious-themed music but I've always really loved this album. There's something about the way the music is combined with biting powerful lyrics that takes it to another level with me. Great reaction.
Bob had nothing but good vibes in his music. He told me truth about everything. This song done with the Dead is so beautiful.with Jerry and the Dead backing him.
Hi Harri, it was an inspired choice for the Nobel committee to award him the Nobel Prize for Literature. My understanding is that this award isn't given merely on the quality of the writing, but rather for the influence of a body of work. Dylan really was the voice of a generation, during the Vietnam War and beyond.
Dylan's 'Gospel' era has some INCREDIBLE songs .. ppl like dismiss it as his 'religious period' but the truth is, ALL his songs are inspirational in nature. #theMaster
Excellent LP too. It's Dylan's venture into Christian Themed music where he produced three "Christian" LPs. Each had great songs in them like any of the other LP'S he has made, but this one LP was my favorite. Thanks for sharing Harri!
It's amazing that 40 years ago he wrote about "all that foreign oil deciding America's future" He's incorporating two kinds of slow trains, natural entropy, and mankind's constant struggle with our own nature.
These three "Christian Period" albums from Dylan are among his most underrated and misunderstood. Some of his best songwriting imo. Also the use of religious themes in older Dylan songs is very prevalent just not normally discussed. The whole Christian Rock and pop genre really took off after these albums. Producers thought there wasn't any money in it. Then they saw the splits and how many Christians bought the albums. It was only after this that you get the rise of the Christian Rock and Metal bands.
That would be interesting indeed. I'd love to hear him on the Bible given how familiar he is with it and how his songs are riddled with Biblical verses and themes.
Once again Dylan furnishes us with a series of provoking observations. At the video time of 7:28 you can hear Knopfler 's guitar blasting five whistles or bell from the metaphoric train. Thank you for sharing - liked.
Dylan is at his best when he is coming on like a prophet. This was often taken to the point of lunacy in the 60s when people were looking to him for direction. So when he was just serving up love songs they were disappointed. On this he is doing a bit of New Testament prophesying instead of Old Trstament so what was the gripe: critics of the time.? . With the wind in his sails Dylan can deliver his warning visions like no other singer
Dude, can you please react to to Dylan live 1980 Toronto, either “what can I do for you? “Or “pressing on”? To me it speak Dylan in concert playing two beautiful tracks !
Yes, it is wonderfully executed, mastersinger, lyrics, every element of the music, all of them geniuses in their own right, who doesn't want to play with Bob Dylan. On the "Christian" theme, maybe conversion played a role, but I like to see it as "inspired by the stories and the consequences". He is the 13th apostle, writing his own gospel 2000 years later for all of us to enjoy and weigh our attitudes, behavior and decisions. Do we again have lost it?
This is one of BD's best albums, along with many others of course ;-)) You might also like to comment on "man give names to all the animals", another great song on the vinyl album, but I like them all. Greetings @all from Hamburg (Germany)
Harri, only recently discovered you, your the man, great stuff mate your a natural, love your natural reactions and commentary on the genuis bib dylan, keep them coming mate. A big thumbs up.
This was a good reaction to a song that is still true.... disgusting as that is, this song is done so good! I love having you do these songs, you are my favorite to watch because you seem to know a lot about music, and you research these people a little at least, and your facial expressions are wonderful. It is like you are sitting at my house doing this, which is great! Thank you!
The train actually arrived 21 years ago, on September 11th!!! And!! Dylan released an album on that day, 9/11/2001!! It's titled "Love and theft". In the song titled "Mississippi" he writes "city's just a jungle, trapped in the heart of it, trying to get away.... the sky is full of fire, and the pain is pouring down". In another song on that album "High water" he writes "coffins are dropping in the street like balloons made out lead". He could not have written more perfect imagery of the events of that day. I'm not sure if he wrote "High water" but the inclusion of it in that album is still inspired, just as much as the words in "Mississippi". Imho, also at the end of "Mississippi" he writes "stick with me anyway, things should start to get interesting right about now". There are also acoustic versions of the song where his vocals are better. The album version is electric, and his were starting to slip by that time.
Bob Dylan was in my top 10...forget about his voice...He just pumped out alot of great lyrically and groovy vibes....Just someone you can lay back, listen to and think.
The voice is integral... and beneficial. Lots of others, particularly female artists, have covered songs more prettily voiced, and they are fantastic. But his voice is crucial in Dylan originals.
The three album "Christian" period was Dylans career apex. Never heard him sing so passionately. His song " Pressing On" from Saved and "Every Grain of Sand" from Shot of Love are gemstones of his musical output. If you skip these albums because of your " progressive" close mindedness, youll be missing some of his best and most rebellious heartfelt work.👍🌠👍
Wow it really has that Dire Straits Communique album feel - and it would I guess - it's Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits backing Dylan here. Knopfler produced the whole album.
He IS a fantastic singer!!! Baffles me that people don't hear it.
He can sing pretty, but it's not as authentic as his real voice.
The Great Mark Knopfler on lead. Great guitar work.
Mark Knopfler’s guitar work is just incredible, as always. Also, Dylan’s wife Carolyn Dennis sings backup.
100% agree!!! What a song/artist/legend/genius!!! Love this arrangement and the vocals are exquisite!
Know this is your accent but pronounce it dill in! Great job tho I r the best!
Bob made yet another trip to little Muscle shoals, Alabama to record this album
Finding Jesus is how he overcame his addiction to Heroin. Hey, Faith by ANY NAME who SAVES US FROM ADDICTION? Trash it at your own expense. Really
Because it sure as F**K AIN"T BIG PHARMA l!! Toot toot

I can smell the fire and brimstone. This guy is pure old testament prephet
I heard this song for the 1st time a couple years ago and it blew my mind. Another song with the same reaction was the same. “License to Kill “
Look up " the groom's still waiting at the altar". It gets stuck in my head something serious. Insane lyrics
25 years ago and the lyrics are just as applicable today as then, so much for progress. Prophetic words and scything through the false values that we are exposed to everyday.

Spot on with lyrics
Thus the critics trashed him for being religious.
My favorite verse as well, in a song with so many outstanding verses. I don't even remember how or when I got this album but I've listened to it a thousand times...
Bob made the trip to tiny Muscle Shoals ALAbama as usual for this project! And he brought in Mark nofler of Dire straits
Yessir..me too
Once you get 'the voice' you enter the world of Bob Dylan. Man, enjoy the journey. It's worth it. Love your stuff.
Won a Grammy for best vocal for this
So glad you're a fan of his voice now you have got to realize how unique and talented the way he can change his voice for every album
He has, for many, many years, 'invented' a new voice or a singing style for each tour..
Dylan is a Bottomless Well… keep it going !
This era of Dylan's work brought faith to a large number of people. I remember hearing this for the first time and having it open a world for me.
Great reaction again..
Please do Bob's..'Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts '..'Black Diamond Bay'

Dylan's musical footprint is HUGE. Saw him with Tom Petty. Rock on all.
I seen Dylan and Tom Petty at Wembley Arena in 1986 awesome gig

Dylan’s lyrics = Nobel Prize for Literature. Amazing indeed.
Mark Knopfler compliments Dylan soooo well on this track. One of my favourites from when I first listened to him
Genius and to me his voice is beyond a voice ..Haunting stuff .
Love your journey with Dylan. It reminds me of my own. I also misjudged the genius in the beginning. Well was I in for a surprise.
Oh yeah, Dylan with his Gospel like message, with Mark knopfler on guitar, fantastic stuff.. another great album "infidels" check it out when you get a chance.
His voice was at its peak in this period. I love this song. Broody. Apocalyptic.

I keep asking myself "where did Bob Dylan learn to play the blues like this?" and "why am I so late to the party???"
Great choice Stephen, I love anything by Bob Dylan he’s one of my all-time favorites. I have many of those. LOL ✌️
My favorite all time artist. Bob turned a lot of people off with this album, but not me, it came out when I needed it most. I saw him in early 80 when he toured off this album.

This is one terrific album. Not a bad tune on the whole record. Great musicians including Mark Knopfler on guitar. Produced by legendary Jerry Wexler.
Bob had nothing but good vibes in his music. He told me truth about everything. This song done with the Dead is so beautiful.with Jerry and the Dead backing him.
Their will never be another Bob Dylan.

Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) on guitar

What 3 Christian LPs did he do, titles?
Slow Train, Saved, and Shot of Love. I owned all three.
Slow Train Coming, Shot of Love and Saved. I owned all three.
Whatever key Dylan sings in, is my key because I have a low-ish voice, I can sing along to any of his songs.

Dylan is very well read. Look for his audio of him reviewing some classic books ie All’s Quiet on the Western front et al
That would be interesting indeed. I'd love to hear him on the Bible given how familiar he is with it and how his songs are riddled with Biblical verses and themes.
The whole album is a masterpiece. People hated it when it came out. Critics dogged it. Check out precious angel, do right baby and I believe in you
Great album, great song, great reaction.
Thank you for giving him the credit he so richly deserves… there are a lot more songs you could showcase… You did a great job with this one.
"Bob Dylan - It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)" best Lyrics or "Bob Dylan - Pretty Saro" best dylan voice performance ever

Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler..

Your correct. 25 voices. So correct
I see how you could think these verses come from somewhere other than he, BUT I think his songs could be the result of HEROIC ŵork.
enjoyed your reaction. Try "Gates of Eden"...
My fave Dylan album, it has it all. And it’s a protest album too.
