I liked pat ss a boxer. Was he glass chinned .. ? Possibly! His defence was brilliant. One of the few times anyone landed a clean shot on him pat was a great boxer. Nelson was superb

I'd never actually seen this fight, but I remember after it happened there was a picture in Ring Magazine that showed Nelson walking toward the camera and with what looked to be a corpse lying on mat behind him. Much respect for Cowdell for even bothering with an interview after a fight like that. Gracious even in defeat.
Mate, remember watching this as a kid in Brum all those years back. Scary......Fair play to Pat - he once went 15 rounds with Salvador Sanchex in his prime - but Nelson was one hell of a champion and as big a fan of Barry Mcguigan as i was there was no way that he would've lived with that guy i think.
Barry McGuigan was damn right to duck Azumah Nelson, because McGuigan would suffer the same fate as Pat Cowdell.What a beastly shot by Nelson and Cowdell didn't recover.

It's too bad they can't have the Gallagher brothers go back in time and fight Azumah Nelson. Liam would probably have his head in the rafters and Noel would be stapled to the canvas. They could both agree on something - the fact they got their butts kicked and maybe they woulld have some kind of rapprochement and maybe this would lead the way to an Oasis reunion. Then again, who wants that crap band back together again, so maybe it's a good thing the Gallagher brothers did not fight Nelson.

I watched this live as a kid. Pat and Barry were not fit to lace this guys boots. Nelson was in a different class - unfortunately for Cowdell.
