Common Riding Friday | Hawick Common Riding 2024

Highlights of the main day of Hawick Common Riding, where Cornet Ryan Nichol led the cavalcade round the boundaries of the town. Proceedings got underway with the Snufffin' at 6:15am before te Procession round the town started at 8:30am after breakfast. After successful chases up the Nipknowes, there was a third and final "Hut" which included songs and speeches. After this the riders remounted and rode the marches. After continuing to Hawick Moor, the horses enjoyed a much longer rest as picnics were enjoyed and horse racing took place. Then it was back onto the horses and back down to the town to display the flag for the evening.
The music in this video is "Meda's Song" by Ben McCredie and "Boy wi The Flag" by Patrick Friell, both performed for the Virtual Common riding in 2021.
