Entangled Lives: Fungal Networks, Ecology, and Us.
A fascinating conversation with the biologist and writer Merlin Sheldrake about the hidden universe of fungi. When we think of fungi, we likely think of mushrooms, but mushrooms are only fruiting bodies, analogous to apples on a tree. Most fungi live out of sight, yet make up a massively diverse kingdom of organisms that supports and sustains nearly all living systems.
Fungi provide a key to understanding the planet on which we live, and the ways we think, feel, and behave. Fungi throw our concepts of individuality and even intelligence into question. They are metabolic masters, earth makers, and key players in most of life’s processes. They can change our minds, heal our bodies, and even help us remediate environmental disaster.
By examining fungi on their own terms, Merlin reveals how these extraordinary organisms-and our relationships with them-are changing our understanding of how life works.
This talk is hosted by Maurizio Benazzo.

It is fascinating to see the son of two people one knows so well, and to see how, in his body, mannerisms and ideas, he is such a fusion of his parents.

Mind-blowing research and a lovely interview. We are all inter-connected. A challenge to discretist thinking, selfish behaviour, and indeed to the dominant neoliberal paradigm. To say we could learn a thing or two from fungi is a vast understatement - they have survived and thrived for millions of years through mass extinction events. Mutualism seems to be the paradigm shift we need.

I studied this for biodynamics gardening horticulture work i did for many years.

Minerals energetics and chemicals, nematodes, bacterias, fungi, plants roots. Its really amazing interactions and sharing and interchanging things.

I bought a copy of the book assuming that a book on fungi by someone called Merlin Sheldrake would be likely related the the author of another book I bought around 6 months ago called 'Science & Spirituality' by Rupert Sheldrake! I'm so lucky i took the gamble but as i haven't started it yet but after watching this it's next on the list after I finish 'Metazoa' by Peter Godfrey-Smith

    where is the music

    and nights
    empty of stars
    empty of night
    empty of dreams of tomorrows
    dancing across the heavens
    sliding through dissolving horizons
where sea and sky have disappeared into their reflections

Our health is determined by the balance of gut flora & fauna. Fungus overgrowth causes many disease conditions because there's a war on in your body.
    Treat your fungus with respect.
    Who's to say we aren't fungus having a dream we're a human?
Who do we think we are?
We are what we eat, digest & assimilate. Who helps that?

He says that making it into a film wouldn't be enjoyable to watch, but the TV series The Last of Us is based on this. I kind of feel theLast of Us missed a trick (an even darker side), in that the cordyceps are effcting the bain, but as he describes it doesn't in ants, but detaches the brain and effects the muscles. So the Zombies in the Last of Us, could still be normal people trapped in their bodies, with the brain functioning but with o control of their zombies bodies. Fully aware of everything their bodies are doing, but helpless.
