  • Welcome back! Short video here explaining the driveshaft for my 60 impala. similiar application in 58-64 impalas. On a car with adjustable suspension it is almost always mandatory to have a slip yoke driveshaft!!

You have to measure about 6 times to make sure that your measurements are correct on Drive Shafts 🙂
Carrier Bearings bolts will fall out on a Street Car if you don't check them once in awhile, ask me how I know..................
Shop did a nice job for you and Local is always a big plus.
So you should be going down the road soon.

ive had plenty of driveshaft woes on these cars. the stock bearing are really week. i wonder how often they had to be replaced back then...

58's were the worst by far, the Carrier Bearings and U-Joints were the worst of any car but most other GM's were very close.
The Carrier Bearings and U-joints started coming from Japan and they did not last long at all.
You had to learn how to replace them because the cost for a Shop to change them was very high, 3 U-Joints a Carries bearing and some times a front Yoke if you waited to long to replace..........
Next was Wiper Motors, they did not last long, I think it was a internal issue.
They were fastened with Clutch Head Screws, no Harbor Freight so you had to take a Square nail and drive it into the head and crank it out.
The Front Headlight Buckets rusted out so when you went for Inspection in NYS they could not adjust them and you had to replace them, no Repops in the 60's
Another one was the Neutral Safety Switch, they were all shot but you still could start the car but now you could start it in Drive for your Jack Rabbit Starts.
these could all be fixed but you might get killed when the Firewall Connector fell out at Midnight on a Rainey night on a back road or if you speed was beyond the Legal Limit, or twice it.
So these things took up a bit of your time and money, and they say that they "Don't Build them like they used to"
