I just switched back to the OEM plugs. I definitely didn't like the modern iridium plug in my 05 gsxr 1000. The stock CRE9 NGK burns much more consistent. I wish I watched your video much sooner before switching plugs back out for a second time. I appreciate the heads up on performance plugs VS modern iridium plugs for performance applications.
It will take some getting used to if it's sustained travel like on a highway. You're not really in an upright position ever, lol. If you want comfortable and sporty, I'd consider maybe a naked bike.
Nice instructionnal video, but I don't think your statement about iridium plugs not being for performance applications is 100% right, especially after having read the whole Denso training manual thats teaches alot aboug spark plugs.
It's really preference and I should have mentioned that. Just with our experience with nitrous and boost applications as well sometimes high compression we have had spark consistancy issues.
Ngk on their website says to not use anti seize. It affects the torque and torque reading with a torque wrench. They claim the thread already has some ant seize properties in it.
Wet plugs could simply be a sign of a bad valve cover gasket. Otherwise you could be consuming oil due to bad valve guide seals or piston rings. O would consider a cover gasket set first.
@@Omega47 thanks, the bike does seem to consume oil, it never needs topping up in-between serving. It was just the thread, not the plug or coil pack. Is the new gasket an engine out of frame job?
You say "I wanted a more consistent burn so I went nickel/copper". What have you noticed with the standard copper plug over the iridium? Smoother? better fuel consumption? more power? My L6 has only just hit 12000km and tossing up whether to change now or leave them in or change out to the copper plugs.
When I worked in autoparts I had a lot of mixed reviews. The consensus I found was newer vehicles didn't agree with them too often and threw misfire codes. Depends on your year bike but if is a GSXR in my year range they are known to be sensitive to misfire detection.
Maybe you can help sir I have a 2007 GSXR 600 ..and I am having a hard time finding original coil pack for it and other parts I purchased some coil packs off of eBay ever since I've installed them my bike's been idling slow and seem like it's going to cut off where can I find original parts I really don't want to sell my 2007.
You can find them anywhere and pretty affordable. They are even on Amazon. All 4 for about $130. Just Google 2007 GSXR 600 coil packs and there are tons of options to choose from.
How would I fix a threaded problem I tried to change my spark plugs on my jigster 2007 and yeah the threads got stuck in the cylinder only the thread not the whole spark plug how would I fix that.
That is a very difficult situation. If it is only the threads there are many tricks to try and get it out. I have seen a flathead screwdriver just barely small enough to fit inside the threads and tapped in with a small hammer to get it out. I have also seen something as simple as a Torx bit socket (T40) just shoved down in there and work by the bit grabbing the ground strap of what is left of the plug and pulling it out. The major trick is to do this without damaging the head. If you don't have experience with this directly I would highly suggest taking it to someone who can. Like a shop.
Sounds close a 16mm, and it was a touch of "anti seize." Not the same as loctite, it's just to ensure the plugs do not get stuck in the head when it come time to remove.
Thanks for the video. My dumb ass pulled all 4 ignition coils and mixed them up. The wiring is correct but does each coil need to be in the correct cylinder? My bike is running a good amount slower now.
I've always used anti-seize. Today I've read in Cycle World magazine that it's not recommended on new motorcycles, because the spark plug manufacturers use metals to compensate for seizing issues. I wonder if it will negatively effect the performance or do you think it matters? I did a spark plug change on my '02 GSXR 1000 over the winter and I used a very thin application of it, as usual.
i have a 2011 gsx-r 600. what plugs should i use? i was told to use CR9EIA-9 by year & model search, but bike shop told me CR6EIA-9. where can i get NGK CR9E
I have a 2007 gsxr 600 it was sitting for about 18 months I would start it here and there but started shutting off after not giving it gas and once you reved it it would stay on but slowly start shutting off any idea what could be wrong now it won't even turn on
Ok thanks man I actually got it started and sounded good I just blew out all the hoses that goes to the tank and started but I started messing with the idle and than just shut off I'll mess with it again tomorrow.. And I actually just changed my coolant as well
I sort of slide it in place with the ducts first or set it down and "massage" them in to place as I put it in. Best way I can put it,lol. They are a pain.
Thanks for the video, i successfully changed my plugs on my 11 gsxr 1000
Glad to hear it man! Sorry it was a bit broken up as there was a lot going on around the house that day.
Omega47 it’s all good, you’re video is the best one & the one i kept going back to whenever i got stuck. Just keep them coming 👍

I’ve watched a few of these plug change videos, yours is “PROPER”, nothing left out, all tips mentioned, thanks dude,!!
Thank you!
Great vid man!
Thank you. I’m considering getting one myself.
Is this bike ok for short road trips? (3-4) hours?

Thank you for making these tutorials. Just bought an old GSXR and these are very helpful.

Thank you. Job completed and saved myself lots of money! Great vid 👍🏻👏🏻
I replaced my plugs and the plug threads were really wet. Why would they be wet with oil? Leaking journals?

Has anyone on here ever tried E3 spark plugs bc i got a free set and I’m about to install them ?

@@Omega47 it’s a 2012… and what’s the part number of the ones that u installed in this video?
Thank you
Awesome video bro. I appreciate it!
I just changed mine in my GSX-R 600 12 and found the threads wet with i think oil. It occured on all four sparks. Any ideas? Yours look normal.
Wet threads usually mean bad tube seals. Valve cover gasket time.
loven the diys man hell yea! great job bud!
Are spark plugs on a Gsxr 750 similar to the 600 or are they different? What is the manufacturer name of the spark plugs you are using?
@3:16 "Thats what she said"
aayyyyoooohhh

Wats tha best plugs to use on my 2002 GSXR 750
At what mileage point would you change out your plugs?
At 10k miles or 2 years.

Yes sir!
Where do i get spark plug socket?? Can u get one from AutoZone??
Any auto parts store.
great tutorial, could I ask you 3:40 what's the equivalent of 5/8? is 16mm? and 6:36 touch of NECs (is the same thing as loctite?) Thanks mate

how often do those coils go bad?

I doubt it will have any I'll effect. Regardless of manufacturer specs I always put a tiny amount on the threads. Helps prevent future headaches.

Have your owners Manuel? Spark plug info is in there. Best source.
+Omega47 never had one. 2nd owner
Have Oreillys order you the CR9E. That is where I got it, bike stores want 8.99+ when oreilly I believe was 4.99.
thanks for the reply on the socket size
Dose gsxr1000 spark plug and cars spark plug are the same????
Possibly I am not sure, the thread size may be different.

was it overheating before shutting off? it will cut off if the temp hits 240.
Yea it actually was man
I had the same thing happen to me. I looked up a few vids on overheating, and luckily i just needed to flush my coolant. hope this helps.

what size is that magnetic socket?
5/8
