I've been personally waiting on this one, so I wanna take this time to give my personal experience with this show. Apologies in advance for the long comment. This was probably the first PPV I ever remember watching in full. I was born in 1996, so obviously I have no memory of watching this live, but my grandfather recorded this on VHS (as he did all PPVs he bought) and I remember discovering the tape around 5-6 years old, and I LOVED it. I still love it. It introduced me to pretty much every wrestler I would come to love, and pretty much introduced me to wrestling as a whole, as I do remember really beginning to watch wrestling weekly not long after. The energy, the action, the promos, the hype packages, AC/DC on the theme song, HHH's entrance with the DX Band playing him to the ring, and ICP playing Oddities to the ring. It's just perfect. You never forget your first wrestling show and this was mine, I'll never forget it.
This is such a Good Video to chronicle this Awesome PPV of 98. So happy i held onto my VHS since the network cut most of it. I have it in a vhs collection called classic 5 of 1998 includes all the big PPVs from that year
SummerSlam '98 totally topped WrestleMania 14 and totally beat WCW/NWO Road Wild. Austin vs Undertaker in the Main Event cemented two of the best superstars in the business
I loved this PPV back in 98. I was so stoked that all of DX and Stone Cold prevailed this night and pretty much every match was so good! Great night for the fans and WWF all together!
Crazy how they fought over the IC title in early 1997... Then here in mid 1998.. Then feuded as Semi main eventers in 1999.. Then for the World title in 2000. They were joint at the hip. lol
He was actually one of my favorites when I started watching exactly a year later during SS 99, him turning on Kane absolutely destroyed his popularity for the rest of his career though
That ladder match was like peak WWE at that time. The attitude era was great for the stories but actual like five Star classics there wasn't many, but that definitely was one of them. Of course at this same time down in Japan Kings Road was also at it's peak with Misawa, Kenta kobashi, and others having 5 star matches every show... But all the story was in the ring... I do think from 98 to 2000 give or take a little was professional wrestling at its peak in every company worldwide!
I have been watching Reliving The War since day 1 (and Wrestling Bios before that). We have finally made it to Summerslam 98 which was my absolute favourite PPV from my first full year as a fan. I know other shows might have better in ring performances (although this show does have some great matches) but for sheer nostalgia this will be hard to beat (I was absolutely DX and Stone Cold obsessed at this time). Thank you for everything you've done so far with the series Mr Bios, keep up the great work.
The build up to this main event was so well done. The First Blood Match, the Tag Team titles, the Brothers of Destruction reveal the week before! We were really lead to believe Kane was going to interfere and cost Austin the title! I remember cheering when Undertaker told Kane to go back and he would win on his own.
This show has one of my all time favorite matches in Triple H vs The Rock in the Ladder Match. It's so wonderful. I was literally less than a month old when this PPV happened but it really is an all timer.
This was the best summer slam ever! In my hood, they bring out the big screen outside for this ppv. Half of the pjs was out there for the the rock vs triple H match. And the Rock was a heel at this time. I will never forget this paper with you as long as I live. Today’s wrestling don’t bring a family together. It’s all about high flying and no memories. My favorite match of the night. Rock vs HHH ladder match which set the Rock for main event status later on in the year after this loss. My absolute favorite AC/DC song. SummerSlam 97: Austin injures neck by Owen on that botched tombstone SummerSlam 98: Austin accidentally knocks himself out vs Taker SummerSlam 99: Austin brutally gets attacked post match by HHH with injured knee after losing the title Austin was in a championship match 3 years in a row
I went to this when I was 11 years old. We were in the theater for the Lion's Den match. It was cool, but we basically watched the PPV (with full commentary) except for the one match. Kind of a weird set up. But I still had a blast. I had also met Bam Bam Bigelow, Terri Runnels and The Shiek earlier that day.
I was there for that too. Do you remember someone getting escorted out? I always wondered why they were kicking that dude out. Seemed like a waste of money to go to MSG and get kicked out before the show is even done. 😂

It had to have been the hottest weekend of the summer and we had no AC in the living room at the time, but it was Austin vs. Taker! The apex of the Attitude Era.
Honestly, the main thing that always stuck out to me in this PPV was how extremely over Rock was in his ladder match with Triple H. Rock was a heel & the crowd was cheering him like crazy when he did the people's elbow.

I loved this pay-per-view. 1998 was year I started watching wrestling "full-time" going from a casual fan in the years prior to being a super fan. I can't say as much for the past decade though. Some diamonds in the rough, but wrestling's just too watered down for me now. But I remember this being the first PPV my grandfather letting me stay up late and watch (I was 10 in 1998 and had a bed time). It still remains one of my favorite pay-per-views of all time. I watched the VHS so many times when I was a kid, it probably doesn't even work anymore. I think most of the matches were solid, the Oddities match was not great, but still fun, and HHH vs. The Rock was the MOTN. Despite Taker and Stone Cold not liking their match, I still love it, and that Undertaker leg drop spot from the top rope to the commentary table is still one of my favorite spots of all time. Terrific PPV and love this series, because the Attitude Era was definitely a highlight of my childhood, so thanks Wrestling Bios.
"This is great news for the Brisco Brothers Body Shop, but it's not good news for Mankind" That line about Mankind's "car" made me laughing hard. I had to pause the video and go back...and I didn't even get to hear Mick deliver it. It's just a great line.
Legendary IC match. Can't help but enjoy story told throughout. The fans adhering themselves to The Rock, the well placed interference to stack the odds and then Hunter capturing the title makes for one of my all time favourites. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
@33:07 take a look how HHH used to do the pedigree, he wouldn’t release the guys arms. It made the move look way more painful. Later on he would start to release the arms. I think someone got their nose broken and he had to change it.
This was the first PPV i attended live and what a show it was my 10th birthday present from my parents and my aunt took me it was a fun time. This takes me back
You really can tell how much you loved puttin this banger together. Your narration is always second to none, but you had perhaps even more joy in hammering home happy hindsight here. HHH/Rock is a classic, all action brawl that really pushed the two lads into headline status, and your script, delivery and reflection on the match was addictive listening. Im sure you had as much fun watchin SS98 again whilst putting this video together as we did watching this. F'kin A.
Yea, I remember being a kid and begging my family to let me get it and they did, it was first ever ppv... idk why but this night made me a triple h fan lol
I love the psychology of Austin going back to his technical wrestling roots to keep Taker off guard, knowing that the conventional approach doesn't work.Would've been cool if he had brought it back throughout the match instead of just doing it at the start, possibly a result of the accidental knockout. Nevertheless, such a banger of a Main Event in an already incredibly strong show. Amazing how they managed to work around that accident.
The Highway to Hell..... Summerslam 1998....... This is my favorite Summerslam.... Undertaker vs. Steve Austin for the WWF title..... Childhood Nostalgia...
the build up to the Austin/Taker match was extremely well done that entire summer this aired the day before the first day of my sophomore year of high school, i despised school and was teased and bullied all the time but the hype for this match was so huge i couldn't wait for summer vacation to end
Edge (a future champion & Pro Wrestling legend) being part of the iconic Summerslam ‘98 undercard makes all the sense in the world.. Until you watch this and realize he’s part of a mixed tag match where Sable & Jacqueline are actually the main attractions 😂😂 This might be my favorite WWE event of all time. Thank you for your service, WB 🫡
A nice touch I only noticed years later, about thirty seconds before Kane walks out you see the lights in the entranceway flickering. This happens during both the Tag title match and the main.
@@SylvianLight No, I think they were just older and getting out of shape and the WWE wanted to focus on younger new talent. LOD especially HAWK had substance abuse issues. LOD could be quite petty, remember them no selling Kane and RVD in 2003? one of them got pretty much right back up after a chokeslam and 5 star frog splash. Plus, I think you'll fins a lot of wrestlers treat women a lot worse than what Vince did.

Terrific PPV and love this series, because the Attitude Era was definitely a highlight of my childhood, so thanks Wrestling Bios.
"This is great news for the Brisco Brothers Body Shop, but it's not good news for Mankind"
That line about Mankind's "car" made me laughing hard. I had to pause the video and go back...and I didn't even get to hear Mick deliver it. It's just a great line.
Never forget it. Hot summer night the whole neighborhood was watching.
Greatest SummerSlam of All Time in my humble opinion.
Always loved the MSG stage entrance with the crowd right on top like royal rumble 2000. Made it feel more edger more cagey.
Legendary IC match. Can't help but enjoy story told throughout.
The fans adhering themselves to The Rock, the well placed interference to stack the odds and then Hunter capturing the title makes for one of my all time favourites.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
And The Rock would become WWF champion 8 weeks later to turn heel again.
@33:07 take a look how HHH used to do the pedigree, he wouldn’t release the guys arms. It made the move look way more painful. Later on he would start to release the arms. I think someone got their nose broken and he had to change it.
I wish HHH didn’t get injured because I would have loved to see a good face run with the IC title
@@catchcan221 The Rock's nose was busted combined with Chair and Ladder
@@johnepants it's a shame that he relinquished like that.
Great video as always, Still can't believe that we're almost at the end of 98 of this RTW series.
Thank you for your time and consideration doing these videos. I know its a ton of work.❤
One the best SummerSlam's in History
For real this one n 2000 we’re so awesome
This was the first PPV i attended live and what a show it was my 10th birthday present from my parents and my aunt took me it was a fun time. This takes me back
😂😂 you got some interesting parents taking you to an attitude era show
@@pleaseshutup7053 my aunt did my mom has never gone and i dragged my dad once usually as a kid my brother or sister took me
One of my favorite PPVs I ever saw. It might even be the first one I bought the VHS for after
Once a month I get to remember the PPVs.
Reliving is awesome sauce but these are memories with family.
Yes it's finally here one of the most nostalgic if not best PPV's of all time SS98
F'kin A.
The greatest match that night was Triple H vs The Rock.
Summerslam 1998 Main event : The Undertaker vs THE RINGMASTER! ;)
I really didn't mind the longer review. I hope the remaining PPV reviews include Sunday Night Heat recaps too.
I remember feeling that watching the WWF/E in a random ppv channel felt like I was in a really exclusive club. I miss these fun, easy going times.
Waltman still has the best back spinning kicks
So glad I was able to watch the Patreon version of this show. Great content as always brother!
Actually the first pro wrestling event I ever saw of any kind, I was totally hooked from there.
One of the best summerslams and attitude era ppvs ever.
This was my first ppv and I loved it. How wrestling has changed and how beautiful it is. Thank you for making my days more exciting.
Wow you are truly lucky
Feels like Austin often has things working against him in his biggest matches in some form.
I was thinking this same thing.
That’s the entertainment man lol
The Highway to Hell.....
Summerslam 1998.......
This is my favorite Summerslam....
Undertaker vs. Steve Austin for the WWF title.....
Childhood Nostalgia...
the build up to the Austin/Taker match was extremely well done that entire summer
this aired the day before the first day of my sophomore year of high school, i despised school and was teased and bullied all the time but the hype for this match was so huge i couldn't wait for summer vacation to end
It was so outstanding
Is this the Undertakers first ever clean pinfall loss?
@@catchcan221 yes
Edge (a future champion & Pro Wrestling legend) being part of the iconic Summerslam ‘98 undercard makes all the sense in the world.. Until you watch this and realize he’s part of a mixed tag match where Sable & Jacqueline are actually the main attractions 😂😂
This might be my favorite WWE event of all time. Thank you for your service, WB 🫡
Dlo Brown almost missing the powerbomb.....Just like on poor Droz
Thank you for all your time and effort. You do an amazing job running your channel and keeping us entertained from your heart and soul. Respect 🤜🤛
A nice touch I only noticed years later, about thirty seconds before Kane walks out you see the lights in the entranceway flickering. This happens during both the Tag title match and the main.
The downfall of LOD is such a sad story. I can’t believe they let it get to that point. Took a legendary tag team and turned them into a joke.
Very sad imo 😞
Did the same to Vader
The attitude era was leaving them behind
i wonder what lead to their downfall? maybe they asked vince to respect women or perhaps they questioned one of shawn's injuries.
Loved the build up to the HTH main event! Some peak Attitude era stuff around summer 1998
This brings back great memories. I was there with my friend and my mom. We were sitting in the 10th row.
So Austin used a sledgehammer before Hunter
I agree with you this one, and survivor series 98 are the best ppv of the year. I saw survivor series live, the rock turn was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen live
But rushed and unexpected
Great video as always! I love this PPV and it brought back a ton of memories.
You mentioned how the Rock/HHH match was a top match of the year. Would you consider doing a video on your favorite matches from a given year? I think that would be a fun video.
To answer your question about the adjacent theater match. The tickets for the lion’s den match were sold separately.
Watched this VHS a million times as a kid. Classic ppv in a legendary period in time
Those 13 words from Foley crack me up just so random and funny good work Mick
14:57-I thought this version of Jeff Jarrett was cool AF!
I've been waiting for this since this channel started. My favorite PPV ever. Cheers to almost 13-year-old me, cheers to you, Ryan and cheers to you all.
Pretty ironic hearing the Quote "DX doesn't live in the past"
My first PPV. That ladder match made me a fan for life. Managed to get my mom (with the help of my older brother) to buy me a Triple H action figure (with the iconic purple pants, of course), along with a Rock figure to recreate it whenever I wanted. Thank you for this!
The first PPV I had watched since 1993
One of the best PPV builds ever.
Crazy that Rock will be champion in just a few months. Survivor Series was on my 14th birthday❤ miss these days best days of my life, everything was Soo over compared to stuff these days
What do you think about today 's wrestling 🤔
@@zacharythomason7359 I don't watch it I stopped years ago. However I still kinda follow it from afar my bro and couple friends still really into it so I have to hear about what's going on.
