Reliving The War is a weekly show that aims to cover the entire Monday Night War. With WWF Raw is War and WCW Monday Nitro airing at the same time every week fans had a decision to make, both companies would put on their best shows possible to try and gain all-important ratings victory every Monday Night, and the Monday Night War would end up turning into a legitimate battle for survival with only 1 wrestling organization left standing in the end.
WWF Raw is War gets moved to Saturday Night this week due to the US Open. The WWF air a taped show which does not feature WWF Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin, however it does feature Vince McMahon announcing Austin’s opponent for Breakdown: In Your House. McMahon also makes disparaging comments towards The Undertaker & Kane, and these comments sent the Brothers of Destruction on a warpath.
On WCW Nitro The Warrior begins his O.W.N revolution as he takes aim at Hollywood Hogan and the Black & White nWo. Arn Anderson’s lack of motivation gets questioned by J.J. Dillon, and Bret Hart has a tough time wrestling his “best friend” Sting in the tag team main event.

Man it's hard to believe Arn Anderson was 50 back then and today he's 51. Time flies I swear
I can't believe there's only 4 months left of 1998 in RTW! We're almost at the dying years of WCW and the absolute peak of the WWF.
It does seem like WCW is spinning their wheels at this point in some areas.
@@roccojamison89gooker51they start to spin their wheels as soon they get Bret Hart. Starcade 97 was the beginning of the end.
I always felt like the finger poke of doom is what began the downfall of WCW
@@JPD2587 There was still some good in 1998; it did lead to Revenge on N64. 1999 was definitely when you can tell something wasn't right.
I think I was getting fed up with WCW at this point and started watching WWF.
I feel like The Giant in WCW was one of the most inconsistently booked people ever. One night he's an unstoppable force, the next he's just another guy wearing NWO Black and White.
WWE didn’t do him any favors when he went over there either.
Hell naw, vested smokin announcing giant was over as f.....
Same as in WWE
Marty giving us a chin lock buffet on his way out was such a classy gesture.
Good man
@@g6iii Class act
A real jam up guy
Chin lock buffet 🤣
Biker Mice from Mars, that's a sweet nostalgia hit from my childhood.
There's very few times where i feel "old" but bringing up Netscape Navigator took me back
Kazaa and sharebear...
P.S. Napster 😚
The greatest thing about Thursday
Throw back Thursday!
Yep
Thursday does not begin until I receive notification that reliving the war has been posted
Definitely. Sometimes, the only good thing about Thursday.
ABSO(FUCKN)LUTELY!!!!
Man , your creativity when it comes to Bret and Road Dogg never cease to crack me😂😂😂 Lmao😂😂😂
Send for the man!
I loved the Night of Destruction. As a kid who thought this was all real, every match felt tense, because it felt like these otherworldly creatures were stalking around, looking for prey. It made them feel like the horror movie villains they were based off of, and I loved how chaotic the show felt as a result.
Same here, Seeing Kane & Taker destroy everyone was always fun
That Akuma/Bret Hart mash-up was a work of genius.
We are now reliving the most peak time of the war, thank you WB for bringing back all the memories of a simpler and better time.
The WWF at the San Diego Sports Arena were the best times of my childhood.
We are also watching the last year of Owen harts life on raw I believe his accident happens in July of 1999
@@chindub6563 still hurts. I remember the day well. I think it was in May of 99 at Over the Edge, that PPV name is creepy considering what happened.
@Cam Schuster I remember watching it on ppv and the screen going black and my dad calling the cable company to complain about them telling him it's not them and then it coming back on and jr telling the fans what happened and then him saying Owen had passed away and yes it is very creepy considering what happened and you are right it happen may 23rd 1999 its sad to think now Owen Hart has less then a year alive
@@camschuster5947 yes it was May at over the edge
I was in the middle of negotiating a hostage situation when i got notified of the latest RTW upload. Hope those nice people make it out OK.
Just tell them to chinlock each other in the meantime. (Just kidding, that would KILL THEM. )
🤣🤣🤣
That Hitman-Road dogg segment this week... chef's kiss my dude lmao
I had to watch it twice. Which SF Alpha is that?
@@gp.5989 alpha 3
Steve Blackman was one of my favorites as a kid and your commentary on him brings me back to being 14.
He's the best part of the whole series.
@@nuduce123 The best mu’fuggin part
"The Mu'Fugga Kick" is the best finisher name ever.
Blackman sucked
I was a freshman in HS when we hit this part of the war. In a few episodes, I moved cross country for about 6 months, and didn’t have cable. So I’m genuinely looking forward to the next few months of Reliving the War, as it will be first time seeing it. Thank you, WB, for doing this every week.
Swear the Steve Blackman intros get me amped 😂😂😂 probably one of my favorite mashups next to disco in this legendary series.
Scott & Buff together were so entertaining
Some of the best promos on WCW during this time
This might have been the night Cornette snapped on Vince Russo.Russo wrote Raw to have all those DQs,according to Cornette.
That happened probably around 1999. It evolved around a match with Chyna too.
@@therealDJG sauce?
I was just thinking that too. Corny confronted Russo, and said “really,6 DQ’s?” Then Russo added one more DQ. Terrible that a Raw after a major PPV went down like this.
I've been thinking this myself.
Al Green AND Brian Adams on WCW... Damn, what a chart-topping episode!
Now that Picard Season 3 has come and gone, Reliving The War gets to run unopposed on Thursdays once again!
Thank you good sir! Keep up the good work!
Season 3 was real good
that Netscape Navigator line killed me. i'm a ghost now.
The "MARTY JANNETTY CHIN-LOooooCK. HOO HOO HOOoo-YEEeeah" caught me off guard. I was tabbed out, and I just burst out laughing. Your RtW series is a gem, dude, I love it so much.
The background had me rolling.
Got me roasted lol
I started watching some of the RAW and Nitros on peacock ahead of the next Reliving the War episode for two reasons:
1. To see if any wrestler would perform at least three chinlocks/restholds/moves
2. To check if Road Dogg does his in-ring intro, in anticipation of how Wrestling Bios will have Bret Hart tell Road Dogg to "Shut Up."
Downvoted for Spoilerdom.
'The Bald Biker Mice From Mars' - wow what a line. Had me in stitches lol
I popped for the Headbangers wearing Morbid Angel shirts!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm glad someone else noticed that!
@@spencerjewett2146 I always liked that Raven wore Suicidal Tendencies and Nevermore shirts, but it's cool seeing heavier bands getting some exposure!
At 4:56 that promo was a special historical promo tape Arn did in the early 80's. That was the tape Ric Flair watched and saw something in Arn (which we call the IT factor) and helped get him to the Carolina's. That was where he met Ric for the first time as well as his shot at the stars by working with Ole as the Minnesota Wrecking Crew, then the rest was history. So if any of you are curious about the tape it is on UA-cam still and was done in the South East Territory at the time and if I remember correctly, it was just prior to his days rocking the fedora hat. It's a solid promo and was his ticket to star dome.
Thursday just got better, thank you wrestling bios for what you do big dog
Raw this week was a Vince Russo special, almost every match ends in a dq
At 27:53 . The "J.O.B. 2000" sign sums up the sad state of the L.O.D. at this point in time. Hurts looking back on it, and i wasn't even alive back then to see it!
You did right by Summerslam ‘98. That one has a special place in my heart as it was the first PPV I watched.
A huge transition ppv
Another week closer to Ministry Taker!
Kanyon joining the flock after all this time, not to mention being denied entry at first, is why I wish you did get to do some coverage of Thunder. Obviously not possible but since it didn't happen on Nitro it's just glossed over.
Steve motherfugh Blackman is the best part of this series. Its comedy gold the way you describe his moves and lack of emotion.
I don’t know what people are talking about, Blackman is the most emotionally expressive man I’ve ever seen, the passion in his facial expressions are things of legend.
Each time he gets to a Blackman segment.. I put the CC's to see if anything red comes up (If you know the clownshow story of what YT have been doing to his CC's you'll understand why) but nope.. A whole section comes up that you'de never know about unless you put the CC's on..
You can edit those to say whatever you like😆....
@@MinuteManClips Yep!
Marty going out like a champ 💪
This is exactly the part of the war I've been waiting for!
How come?
@@billblaski9523 This is right about the time the ratings went through the roof. It went from just me and a couple of friends watching, to nearly everyone I knew watching.
@@XtremeEffect yeah, there's a ton of iconic stuff coming up from here out.
With all the DQs on Raw I wonder if this was the one Jim Cornette was referring to when Vince Russo told him "DQ Schmee-Q" over him complaining about all the DQ finishes that Russo booked (literally every match on RAW before the confrontation with 7/7 DQ Finishes). And Jim predicting that within about 2 years he'd be back to managing a video store because of such booking destroying the business. It's about the right time for what Jim was vaguely putting it at.
I never got tired of that comet going by on the loading icon for Netscape. 😂
Looking back, this 4 Horsemen storyline is actually pretty good and I wish it would have led to something very major in terms of another rejuvenated Horsemen run. I’m also partial to Arn Anderson so maybe my glasses are rose colored
Shin Bret Hart with the Jamming Demon 👌👌
I sorely miss the chinlock special counter
It was a long wait
And a legend bring it back
Spectacular
Best part of my day
Brother... You're legitimately the first person to say Netscape Navigator in probably 20 years. Thanks for that trip back to the middle school computer lab and an air duster buzz. Thanks for all you do too. Best channel on UA-cam.
Nothing like reliving the wars on wrestling bios !!! ❤
Bret hart telling Road Dogg to shut up is a big part of the week 😂
It must be Thursday!
Yes! It's time for the only thing I punctually do. Watching reliving the war on Thursday
Same. Thursday afternoons you know where I'll be...
Chilling watching reliving the war 💪
@@330wiz7 same. The only difference is here in India i have to wake till 1 in the night to watch reliving the war. Because I can't wait for the next morning to watch it.
The Raging Demon! So good.
NGL, I want both of those Morbid Angel shirts the Headbangers had.
Ya'll take care of yourselves out there. There's something going around.
I came down with a fever for most of the week. It started with nausea and sluggishness, typical stuff.
The next day, things took a turn for the worse. During an afternoon nap, I suddenly awoke to the sound of music-funky, rhytmic music-and a twirling, glittering orb above my bed. It felt as though my body was aflame.
I shot up, nearly tripping over the ill-fitting flared pants I found myself in. And then I started dancing; dancing until I lost my lunch, as well as my sanity and, eventually, consciousness.
The disco bug is no joke.
I can’t wait for 1999 it’s going to be awesome! 🔥🔥😎👍🏻
Not if you are a fan of wrestling. The last two years of Nitro are going to be painful to watch.
But WWF is just getting started
You're gonna love the finger poke of doom
Honestly, I think 1999 was a bit of a slump year imo; Nitro decline was a LOT more evident and Raw's "Russoisms" were getting too much.
I'm a month behind on RTW, but I just want to thank you again for this series. It reminded me why I fell in love with pro wrestling way back in 1996. Who needs Young Rock when you have this young Jam Up Guy covering everything week by week?
If Nash had a bigger nose, he'd look like Val's older twin
Perspective changes when you're an adult. When I was a kid, I was fascinated by The Flock and Raven. Resolution for the group didn't particularly matter. Hell, I thought it was cool that they sat in the front row and made their entrances from there.
Wrestling Bios, you give light to my life in dark times. Lost my Aunt, Cousin, and my grandmother is in the hospital. Jam on my brother, and please know that your hard work is appreciated from a random dude in Las Vegas, NV. Thank you.
Was this the Raw that Jim Cornette talked about where Russo said "DQ, SchmeeQ"?
I feel so sorry for the people in that Raw’s audience. They paid their hard-earned money to see… how many DQ finishes was it? I get the TV schedule was disrupted for two weeks or so, but they didn’t have to completely give up.
Don't they loved it, Watch the episode and they cheer when Taker & Kane lay waste to the roster.
Story was king in the Attitude era.
@@Jiren261 If story is king in the Attitude Era, let’s remember the story of the main event: Jeff Jarrett and 2 Cold Scorpio had a match (for… reasons?) and then that match ended in disqualification because of X-Pac’s interference. And the only reason why Jarrett and X-Pac are feuding right now is because one night X-Pac decided (for… reasons?) to urinate in Jarrett’s boots. That’s the story of the main event in this Attitude Era episode of Raw.
I get that Undertaker and Kane were the main focus of this episode of Raw. However, it’s clear that this was a throwaway episode because of the schedule changes.
@@suntanironman I didn't dispute that it was a throwaway episode, My point was don't feel sorry for the live fans as they were having a blast.
Most matches being DQ finishes weren't a problem as they fueled the main story of Kane & Undertaker pissed at Vince.
As for "Story is King" I meant to WWE in the Attitude era it was Story > Match Quality, Even Cornette, Russo & Pritchard have said that.
@@Jiren261 There is no story here. Not really. At least not a story worth paying money for, lol. Vince called Taker and Kane a name and the brothers spent the entire episode this week just beating people up because Vince called them that name. That was their entire motivation.
Spoilers for next week: Nothing happens with the story (such as it is) of Undertaker, Kane and Vince next week. I don’t even think either brother will appear on the show next week (maybe a video package to hype up the next PPV, but not an in-person appearance). I don’t think Vince appears next week either. Next week’s episode of Raw (arguably) will be even worse than this week’s episode of Raw.
WRESTLING BIOS AGAIN COMING THRU WITH ANOTHER JAM VIDEO 😈😈😈😈😈 WE NEED MORE STEVE MFUGGIN BLACK 😈😈😈
I’ve never seen such a snap put on the chin lock before, obvs Marty must have been chatting with our chin lock lord and saviour Davey Boy backstage
Something to look forward to on thursday. Well done once again.
its that time of week
No idea how far we are from "IT'S ME AUSTIN!" but I'm looking forward to it all the same.
It'll be a while before that. That was June of 99, June 7th to be exact, or 9 months + a week away from where he's at now.
Best show of the week for me. Thanks for always delivering great content Wrestling Bios.
Ah yes, from here to Halloween havoc will be the greatest bollocks to ever happen 😅
WCW having Fall Brawl while it's still Summer is a very WCW thing to do.
Best part of the whole week. Best channel on UA-cam hands down
That Marty Jannetty chinlock spot in the video was great. Marty took 📝
This is the highlight of my Thursdays, especially when I’m at work lol. Thank u so much for doing what u do and being good at it! I appreciate your effort and love the content u put out, thanks WB
Oh yeah baby love this place
This literally makes my Thursdays worthwhile 😂. Seriously the work you do is not only entertaining as hell but is loved deeply man! I actually remember watching this episode of Raw and I was so aggravated by the constant DQs. I was waiting for this episode to come along and your analysis, as always, was spot on and hilarious as ever!
I like the Asgardian reference to Tyr the GOW having his hand bitten off by a wolf.
In 1998, Jeff Jarrett appears in the Raw main event.
In 2023, Jeff Jarrett appears in the most talked-about segment of AEW Dynamite.
It's Double J's world, we're just living in it.

JR's reaction to Vince calling Taker and Kane pussies always pops me. JR says, "what in the hell?!" 😂
Thank you sir for making these videos, my childhood is being relived and re loved at age 37
I love this series it brings back my teenage memories and I love every Thursday when I new episode is released great job WB
Let's go boys it's Thursday 💪👍
BABE, HURRY, RAW VS NITRO IS ON!!
Thanks for giving me something to look forward to on Thursday brother. YOU'RE AN ANIMAL... AN ANIMAL!!
I was so into WWF in the summer of 98
Breakdown is the next ppv and I remember it well
Just seemed like only 25 years ago I was watching this live on tv
Always look forward to these.
13:55 Bret’s Raging Jam super is the best ‘shut up’ yet!
You never fail to crack me up dude!
Shout out for the reference to Netscape & Biker Mice from Mars xD
Btw I just started watching your content a couple days ago w/Summer Slam 98. I love your in-ring commentary and I love your dedication towards this segment! I didn't get into wrestling until around 1999, and then the Acclaim WWF PS1 games, so to see earlier portions of the war is a real treat!
Keep up the good work
The Shun Goku Shut Up!
You always make the end of my week smile worthy. Keep up the great work.

There are lots of cool and funny bits in this one. Great job keeping the show feel fresh 👏 My Man!
I always look forward to Thursdays now! Keep up the great work!!
Lots of interesting story line building on both shows this week!
Welcome to Thursday Afternoon Jericho... aka Reliving the War. The best wrestling program on the internet. Thanks again for bringing me back to some great positive memories of my college ages.

Your intro music plus video always gets me so freaking HYPED! Love it 😁
It was around this time that there were rumblings of WCW being merged with AOL/TimeWarner for the first time. WCW was still going strong with WWF here still, but cracks were starting to form within the Turner organization.
the what does head sound like line absolutely sent me
By September, things are going to get a little crazy on Raw while Nitro is going to get a little infuriating.

Time for another thrilling episode of Reliving the War!
My whole life the only time I looked forward to Monday was during the Monday night wars. I remember being a kid and being so happy I had wrestling to watch. I would make spaghettiOs and eat while I was watching.
