I was like 13 when I got this game. I remember, I'd get it to this base, turn up this music, and then I'd sit and do my homework and imagine the chunky SVGA monitor was a window looking out on the base.
I usually thought about wishing I could go to the beach. But oh well guess I better buy some missiles and blow up some more Retros or something. C'est la vie.
This was my favourite tune in Privateer. After navigating an asteroid belt or bypassing pirates or retros landing on one of these planets made it all worthwhile. Staring at the ship landing pad for hours at a time....great memories.
This was one of the Top 3 PC games from the Golden Age of PC gaming; absolutely captivating with a perfect mixture of gameplay and mesmerizing sci-fi environment. Easily as addicting as Sid Meier's best games and the crown jewels of the 4x genre.
And the music was great. I still have the chart I made of the best trade routes. :D Good Old Games has a DOSBox version that runs on modern OSs for most of the WC universe games.
Awesome, this sound brings back memories. The sound created such a unique atmosphere for the different bases despite the simplistic graphics at that time.
#RebelGalaxyOutlaw got me there :) and I can't agree more! La musique est toujours aussi planante tant d’années après… Check this: ua-cam.com/video/wKoJKe_yKQI/v-deo.html
This is actually very similar to "Shine on you Crazy Diamond", Part I, by Pink Floyd. When I first heard the latter, I was stunned to be hearing the Privateer soundtrack on an album from 1975...
This is nothing like Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Do you think every piece of music with a melody guitar riff is the same piece of music? It's more like Blade Runner Blues meets the tropics.
Generic Internetter Visually, the game takes some of its planetary references from Blade Runner, it would follow that the music would share its inspiration. But despite being obviously inspired by Blade Runner, it's by no means derivative. It's still highly original.

That's a dangerously comfy image
I’d always thought this was the music the people walking around were hearing. Like ambiance speakers at a park or zoo.

Wow, I did the same thing!
This was always my favorite too. I was 13, but rarely did homework.

was the first music i heard outside of Achilles i think - Helen planet.
This is still my favorite PC game ever!
You are now entering an automatic landing zone!
Music and experience wise absolutely one of my alltime favorites, too. It's all the way up there with Master of Orion and World of Warcraft
It jogs me back to sitting in front of my 486 at 1 am while everyone else was asleep.
Exquisite nostalgia.
I have no idea how's this music has something to do with agriculture, but I think this is among the best soundtrack ever put in a game. Delicious.
Wow, this track is absolutely mesmerizing and fits so well into the setting. Sound design in Wing Commander was always top notch.
Almost 30 years later, a sound track I still remember and adore. (And it brings back memories and emotions of me being a teen)

This was one of the best PC games from back in the day. Thanks for uploading this.

Watched some other youtoube video and somehow remembered this ... well, back then I played that on a Soundblaster Pro with FM Synth :D
Thanks a lot for this; brings back good memories.
According to IMDB, Nenad Vugrinec, the composer, also did the music for Teenage Catgirls In Heat(1994).
Thank you for uploading. So many memories. I would hang out longer at these bases for the music.
Awwww shit, no ship dealer
This one kind of reminds me of "Bladerunner Blues" by Vangelis. From the a song he did for the Bladerunner movie.
I was just thinking this had a Bladerunner vibe
Ghost in the Shell OST Nightstalker also has a similar vibe.
i am listening to this while making a game.
words cannot describe.
Whatcha makin?

ah la la ça c'était du jeu :) cette musique n'a pas vieilli, toujours aussi sublime ... R.I.P. mon 486dx2/66Mhz :")
I do not uderstand French but I feel that I agree with you :-) :-D My 486DX/33 (slow for Privateer or Strike Commander but playable :-) )

tu vas avoir star citizen maintenant :)
Star Citizen bientot, dans l'annee 2077.
Great sound but very clearly inspired by Pink Floyd David Gilmour guitar solos. I always loved it now i know why.
Great composition, clearly inspired by Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" album and the Blade Runner Blues
This is soo Blade Runner
I still find myself humming this.

video game soundtracks from the 90's had a habit of ripping off music from other places

Y2Kr4SHM4N This is an almost exact but terrible copy of SOYCD - how can you not hear that.
Is this on Spotify? I would love to have this in the car
I wish I knew where to find more music like this
Any post-Roger Waters pink floyd album has at least one track that sounds a lot like this.
Can you name a few?
In computer games of the 1990's ;)
