I'm not much of a blender user but after watching your presentation about improving blender's UI and asking who donated, I donated to the blender fund. $25 euros. If all 2.5 million users gave $25 euros which isn't much, that would certainly help.
I feel like this is slightly misleading though, most of these softwares have vastly different uses across the 3D art field. Unity and Unreal barely have 3D modeling and rigging capabilities (Current UE5 updates excluded) And I'm not going to go into Houdini to polygon model, I'm bringing in assets I modeled in Maya, Blender or Max, and creating whole procedural scenes. I also fear for the longevity of Blender without a centralized support network.
I use 3DS max mainly, I love it! I had to learn maya for something work related and hated it! I agree though that if a friend was to ask me what software to use, I would say blender.
Who the hell models in Unreal or Unity? That's not their job. It's like trying to make toast with an oxy torch. I mean you can, but the toaster is right there!
Dont get me wrong, I love blender, but alot of its user base are hobbyists or new 3d users. When you get better youll realise that blender isnt specialised in some niche areas and youll likely switch to another 3d software
The current issue I'm running into is related to texturing and specifically texture painting across materials. I can't find a way to do it in Blender and it doesn't seem like there's a free alternative as I don't have disposable income to spend on software for a hobby lol
I would really love to switch to Cinema4D but their tutorials are intentionally limited here. Like, C4D community are pretty stingy in sharing knowledge. Everytime I asked them how to do this do that on their forum or anywhere else, all of their answers were "read the manuals". Wtf, it's not like the manuals will tell me specifically how to make a great 3D mograph.
In fact, if you delve deeper into 3dsmax, you will find that it is very similar to the Houdini architecture, so the focus of Max is on manual operation, while Houdini is programmatic, making it easier for 3dsmax users to learn Houdini
@@DiegoSynth Never used it. I just like Maya because it's what they taught me in school, also I like marking menus, and I tried learning Blender but I baled after learning that their soft shading isn't as good.

First time hearing about existence of a programm called "Houdini"
A someone who finished a film project in Maya last year, i feel very validated seeing it score that low
This is so very interesting. Can you do a full video on that and go a bit in to the details and your own opinion about these things? I just saw your video by chance, but seeing someone talk about this with actual facts is very important to me.
lmfao, seeing that end bit was really an autodesk moment
Guess Lightwave isnt a thing anymore.
Well the software got neglected like 10 yrs and now they are trying to come back. Was an amazing software at the time. But catching 10 yrs of tech and companies already done pipelines around other softwares
Disappointed, I didn’t see Source Filmmaker on here 😂
I'm not much of a blender user but after watching your presentation about improving blender's UI and asking who donated, I donated to the blender fund.
Houdini engineers built from first principles. Theh are best.
Good to see Blender, a completely free software, so near to perfection.
As a non professional 3D designer, I found Cinema4D the quickest and easiest to learn.
A true friend would not recommend a back alley or shady cornerstore where you'll get robbed. Why would software be any different?
Dont get me wrong, I love blender, but alot of its user base are hobbyists or new 3d users. When you get better youll realise that blender isnt specialised in some niche areas and youll likely switch to another 3d software
The current issue I'm running into is related to texturing and specifically texture painting across materials. I can't find a way to do it in Blender and it doesn't seem like there's a free alternative as I don't have disposable income to spend on software for a hobby lol
except modeling.
Blender Retopo and UV is just not that good without add-ons. Maya's quad draw is still the best
Exactly, that’s why I chose to learn Houdini instead I’d rather spend my time learning something I won’t outgrow.
I think some people prefer paided for stuff just because "iT cOSt mONeY so iT muST bE GoOd"
Blender for me ❤
In fact, if you delve deeper into 3dsmax, you will find that it is very similar to the Houdini architecture, so the focus of Max is on manual operation, while Houdini is programmatic, making it easier for 3dsmax users to learn Houdini
I will defend Maya to my last dying breath
How would u compare it to 3Ds Max?
@@DiegoSynth Never used it. I just like Maya because it's what they taught me in school, also I like marking menus, and I tried learning Blender but I baled after learning that their soft shading isn't as good.
Finally, someone considers gamedev folks as 3D artists, not just VFX.
I use Houdini as my main DCC now, all the tools that have been added over the years made Houdini much more than just a simulation and fx tool. You can really do everything in it except for detailed sculpting which I personally wouldn’t do in anything other than Zbrush anyway.
Make 3d model of animated character speaking and using hand gestures like a real human with emotion
I use 3ds max myself for architecture visualization.
Me, developing my own 3D software and 3D engine on a browser without any library, physics (no library) and etc 💀
Seriously?, No Adobe Illustrator (3D tools)?
Just kidding, obviously. Although as a graphic designer I learned about them as well and moddeled a detailed electric guitar for an examn, needless to say that the program was dying.
My favorite is Blender, of course.
When will there be a champion in 3D software? When will participants compete on this software to create models, and judges will evaluate the speed of creating models and quality
Im mainly do digital painting and took interested in 3D to support my work. blender is the first i leart and most familiar with and i want to learn others too but it seem inconvenient since it took time to get used to and im not master blender yet
I spent years learning Fusion 360. Now I'm learning Blender. I wish I started with Blender.
Houdini is great for specific things. Procedural and simulation things. It have some good things for animation... and it have to be your life if you want to learn it. lol. It's so nerdy. Blender is free so it's easy to suggest a friend to try. You get a bit of everything for free so yeah, try blender if you haven't
Houdini is for using practical affects to make a realistic shot with blender too, I’ve seen videos of people using the software to make these kind of results
ZBRUSH the best to sculpt
True and real. I don't get why it's not in the list
If softimage was still there ... But Houdini is clearly a workforce nice to see Blender close from this well establish software, i also like Modo and Clarisse , 3DCOAT and Zbrush are also great sculpting and surfacing tool.
Good research...very helpful
Videos in my recommendation list, when i started to learn Maya only one month ago:
Let’s see the price graph now😂😂😂😂😂😂
how this data is gathered?
because i don't think this is true because a lot of people only use one over another,
therefore creating a bias,
blender fanbase is very biased, and more likely to make data like this,
i've seen ton of data being skewed heavily toward blender by them
i use blender, maya, houdini, and my main is 3dsmax before converting to Maya
sure i like Blender, but Maya is nothing to sneeze at, it's a very in depth and mature program
what i like about Maya is the it's heavy duty,
i can deal with everything that you thrown at them,
i can't say the same about blender because once you reach a certain level, it didn't perform well,
blender isn't heavy duty, it's more like a sidearm that might be enough for majority of people
maybe blender have the chance to beat 3dsmax, but maya? no, still a long way
I think they're talking about the use of program as in personal use and learning and not for professional use.
Every fanbase is very biased, if you ask Maya users they will brag about "industry standard" for three hours straight. At the end of the day people will praise the softwares they know and throw off the cliff the unfamiliar ones.
@@gabrielegagliardi3956 exactly
@@sprixelnitrox if the data is about the "Personal use", i think i can understand that, especially Blender is far more beginner friendly
i only have an issue about the video presenting the data as if it was a Definitive data, a final nail in the coffin,
which i or other professionals can't relate to the data at all, because that was not true
@@jensenraylight8011 he posted this survey on LinkedIn, which is full of professionals, so it's def not just a survey from blender hobbyists as well. From my personal experience, Maya was godawful to work with, same with 3ds max. The only software outside of Blender I loved working with was Houdini.
Interesting that modo is not even mentioned. After brad left inthink they havent do much :(
Well tbf unitys pro builder is a nice gimmic for quick and small uv stuff for example. But it's not meant to be a fully 3d modelling solution.
My first 3d program was Hash, which is ironic in a couple of ways. 😊
to be fair the reason that blender is most recommended is because it's free, no doubt
I disagree. I think most of these softwares have UIs that you learn and learn to be okay with when you're using them for work, but when the question comes up of "What would you recommend to a friend?" I think most people are able to realize and acknowledge that Blender and Unreal have far more user-friendly UIs and onboarding compared to Maya or 3DSMax. Can't speak to Houdini though, since I've seen very little of it.
@@butterscotchpanda yeah, you might be right. I find using Blender smoother. but ive been using it for a long time, too.
@@jamesrussell2936 I've been using Blender for a few years now, but still distinctly recall the learning process, and from that experience I can confirm that Blender has a super user-friendly UX post-2.8. It's not immediately obvious how to pick it up, but with even a basic tutorial it's pretty quickly understandable how you're supposed to move around and whatnot. Funnily enough, I had that reinforced recently when working in Godot, since I immediately started using Blender keybinds and they all worked.
I started in CAD programs and tried to get my hands on Max, it was such a pain. Blender was easier to pick up and the interface is frendlier but also more logical. It feels like Max just forgot to make a UI update and just dumped updates on the main screen when u enter.
Are you alive? Placing UE5 at this place, good bro first test it for 3 years and then decide yourself.
Would be interesting to see which of the users are professionals vs hobbyists and what they do with the software.
@@abcdebcdeda-ug5lu I wasn't insinuating blender artists sucked and Houdini artists were amazing. I literally just said it would be interesting to see. I think it would surprise most people to see who uses what. All high level artists will look great and low level will look like crap. No need to get aggressive.
It was crazy how my universtiy recommended Maya (but did not help with discounts, or classes....)
Blender being free and having a LOT of youtube tutorials and learning resources makes it incredibly easy to learn, even if hard to master... I completed BlenderGuru's infamous beginner doughnut tutorial series, and two weeks later I began recreating the colloseum😂
Ambitious? Yeah. Its hard as hell, it may not look the best, but im proud of it
Working with Cinema 4d since 20 years.
Too bad that it's so hard to learn something new when you are stucked in the software you are used to.
I would _not_ recommend C4D.
One day I'll go through the donut tutorial 😅
One day.....
3Ds is dead.....and C4D will follow soon
Blender is the Pepsi of 3D software. In other words, it's secretly the best.
I find UE quite easy to use compared to some of the others I've tried.
Solidworks, fight me
Those software that are negative is just because of the price! Especially C4D! If it were free, it would be on the same level as Blender! Now Autodesk, I don't want it even if it's for free!
Blender just works with everything and if you are making games or just want to make a good looking model for a poster or animation then really go for Blender. Other programs are better though for stuff like 3D printing or Engineering
Blender is beginner friendly and main thing it's free. I start 3d modeling because of only blender
I used Maya in college and hated it, most game art degrees require you learn maya
This is kinda because it’s been the industry standard for so long. Autodesk also probably pushes it for any game art stuff as a hey, if you want auto CAD for engineer stuff, use the rest of our products in the other departments. At my school is was pretty much a given that an autodesk product was installed on any machine no matter where u went.
It's the same with photoshop but it's not because photoshop being objectively better than affinity but companies like autodesk and adobe have their claws in universities for decades.
People don't really care what software you use, if your portfolio is overkill they are willing to teach you to use their software even
Wow I went to school for CAD and use Revit and 3DS my entire career but thats for more construction BIM ans PID's models.
blender performance at 2nd place i can't believe , should be in the bottom
Do you run blender on a tree?
@@Ratoons_wasTaken blender boy 😆
@@Dyako_010 tree pc guy
shorts are such an insane medium for presenting graphs lol. literally can't read the labels.
thx!
Long live Blender!! LONG LIVE FOSS.
Blender makes donuts taste better.
Thank you

Blender is what I'll use fot a game.
