To be clear...we do NOT present "on this rock I will build my church" as referring to Peter, which is why Jesus steps back and indicates a larger "rock" beyond Peter.
In scripture, Peter is "little rock," and when Jesus says "on this rock," he uses a different word meaning bigger rock.
Regardless of your interpretation of what he was referring to with the big rock (his words, himself, his group of disciples), we should all be able to agree that Christ is the cornerstone.

Yes, Dallas. The Rock, was Christ himself. God doesn't build a church with flawed flesh. Christ is also referred to the CornerStone in the Scriptures. The Church has had that "rock" idea of Peter wrong for centuries! He gave Peter instructions. But Christ was speaking of Himself, not Peter.

All the previous comments were made by Protestants who don't know their abridged Bible.
1. The importance your name in th Bible
2. The even more significance of your name if changed by God John !;42
3. Matthew written in Aramaic NOT Greek
4. What Jesus actually said was, "thous art Kepha and upon this Kepha...." There are no Genders in Aramaic.
5. Protestant Petros and Petras are null and void.
6. Now go to OT Isaiah 22:20-25 The office of Chief Steward, second in command under the King. While the hing is away he is in command.
