In 65 yrs i've seen guys play and sing in their jazz act, guys like Nat Cole, Louis Armstrong, Chet Baker, hell, even Slam Stewart. And yeah, girls sat at the piano tethered to it and sang, Nina Simone, Blossom Dearie, Carmen Macrae and nowadays Diana Krall though lately she finally left the piano and just stood in front of the mic and sang. But Andrea is the first gal I've seen just stand there and sing, then play the bridge and improvise ON TWO DIFFERENT INSTRUMENTS AT TIMES TO BOOT and then go back and sing it on out. Of course all Joan Chamorro's girl musicians seem to do that too! Beyond belief so great, So Great.💙

I stayed tuned in because I knew Andrea would play her trumpet from the heart. Singing is great, but I wanted to hear Andrea play her trumpet. Wish Andrea was my grandchild.
Andrea used to refer to herself as a trumpet player who sings. While its true that her trumpet has gone from strength to strength so too has her singing.
Watching her perform now makes me smile. I remember when she and the other kids were in their after-school jazz band, nervously trying things out, and having a ball doing it. They were so excited and sweet and funny. Absolutely delighted to see how she's grown and developed and become such a talented young musician!
What a fabulous talent! Though I've probably only watched Andrea & the "Joan Gang" for about 4-5 years (seeing many videos), I feel as though I've seen her grow from an outstanding child performer to a polished, smooth professional. What a trip! Thank you, Andrea, Joan et al.

Oh how we need the return of big band music to the mainstream. So much more variety of instruments and sounds than the ever boring commercial pop rubbish that dominates 'play lists'

Andrea is a wonderful jazz singer - in tune, tight, swings, and no irritating vibrato. And her trumpet solos match her singing...
vibrato is very healthy for the voice- straight tone can hurt your vocal cords if you use it too much :)
@@keilywolff4053 I think at some points (e.g. 0:24) there is a slight vibrato, it's just not the primary characteristic of the tone.
Andrea's really at the top of her form on this. I especially loved her trumpet solo!
