The talent runs DEEP in that family…Billy of course, is incredibly talented. But his dad played, his mother sang, his brother plays and conducts, his daughter Alexa is a singer-songwriter and plays piano beautifully, and his two younger daughters (Della and Remy) are into music now too.
I was thinking the same. Wow! And Billy's father was gone most of his life from the time he was a young boy.
What a family. The roots are so musical. Billy's father was a brilliant business man, an incredibly great pianist; his younger brother is very famous if Europe as a classical pianist, and his beautiful daughter plays amazing piano, writes great music and sings really well. If I were a young single, man. Alexa Ray Joel would be my dream lady.
by far the greatest family in the entire fucking world
What a great father- son moment ,can see where billy gets his amazing piano talent.
how insanely proud we're they both of each other...
That’s respect!
He could never give his dad a better gift.
WOW !!! Billy has his dad's eyes.
So does ALEXA!!!
No he has his mother's eyes. "Rosalinda's Eyes" 👀
When Helmut 'Howard' Joel was young, he was the spitting imagine of (what) Billy (would turn out to look like) ....
His youngest daughters have his eyes, as well.
Yup his father got musician mouth. classic moment
My dad does that too!
Or tourettes ....
That was some kind'a cool! I almost cried! I wish my dad was still here... just one more hug.
Aw, damn, that's amazing. I'd never seen Billy's dad before.
Have you ever met him? (Billy). One of the coolest human beings you can ever know. That is, next to "My old man... "
@@charlesfuentes3695 I love that video where Billy Joel slammed on his brakes got out of his car and ran to a piano that someone left on the side of the road to throw away and Billy says man this is a perfectly good piano
Wow! As a lifelong Billy Joel fan, NY'er and haven't seen him perform countless times I'm truly tearing up with emotions at this historic performance. I just saw Billy at MSG and at one point he looked at the monitor and said, "Holy s**t! I look just like my old man!" It has so much more meaning to me now.
It is scary when you look in the mirror, and your Dad looks back at you.
I can't see why anyone would tear up over this. It was awesome, but hardly a tear jerking moment.
GitarStu, you possibly may lack the depth to appreciate a moment like this, no I am sorry, you do lack this, as your response was one of shallowness. It was a “jerk” moment for you.
@@aileenmascari3921 I appreciate it. I think it's awesome. But I can contain my emotions and enjoy it without having a blubber.
You are so fortunate to have been able to see him once let alone many times. I envy you. I have never seen him. He is quite literally the ONLY performer who would be able to get me to pay to see him nowadays. :) Cheers.
The song is “I Got Rhythm” btw. Gershwin
It’s a very famous song. 🙄🙄
That was great, Billy & Dad, Howard... Who could ask for anything more. Regards to your Mom, Rosalinda, that's where you got your eyes from, right? Happy up coming Fathers day, too.
well, at least we know what Billy will look like when he gets that old.
GerMart I think he looks nothing like him
That's right I don't look anything like my mother did at my age I'm way way prettier
@@sheilaseeber2007 But very vain, which is very unattractive.
@@narrabeenstudent7027 I once saw a picture of Billy's parents, Helmut and Rose, at their wedding; Helmut, when he was young, looked Just like Billy ....
I look nothing like my dad. Then again, I was adopted.
I will never forget this wonderful evening in Nuernberg. It was very personally. Can’t believe it’s been 27 years already
It was wonderful to see them play together. Touching.
Amazing, family means everything.
Happy Father’s Day everyone
Daddy lays down some nice bass runs....
OMG just stumbled accross this how WONDERFUL baci x
Q belleza felicidades
Was this all about billy joel being heard playing the piano or his dad as the cameraman and spot light was zoomed in on billy joel I could hardly hear a note his father was playing as his son was hammering above him on the keys of his piano
Well Billy is the famous one you know I think Billy Joel was just a very nice person too I really do
how wonderful!! and beautiful!! and he has it for all time, for him his children and grand children!!
Extremely cool.
That's amazing, full circle family history, that Joel played on the stage in Nuremberg with his father. Your father was an amazing man. He must have been very very smart and resourceful, as your mother.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree! Mr. Howard Joel ❤
Such a lovely family
that's amazing! so cool to see the moment go down.. must have been a thrill for Billy!
I always wondered about Howard Joel.
I've always felt Helmut/Howard was extremely lucky that Billy forgave him for walking out on the family (when Billy was 8) and returning to Austria ... most people who had a parent walk out do NOT forgive the parent when they (the child) become an adult ...
Gifted
How wonderful love love
Those beautiful eyes run in the family.
"Rosalinda's Eyes"
His daughter has those eyes too
@@chewie2055 Yes. I noticed that as well.
@@SHADOWGIRL1971 actually all three of his kids look like him......rosalinda was his mom I believe
Just WOW!
I have never seen this. What a great performance of father and son. His dad should be so proud of him.😇😇
Billy I just love him, this was great.
He's fantastic!!
beautiful
Father and Son, blessings 🙏💙💙👍
Thanks for posting this. Great fun and a terrific moment by two talented men.
I hope their talent mended damaged relationships. Billy had to be hurt from his father leaving, but I think he understood that his dad was wrecked from the Nazi's, having his business stolen and given to a German family, etc. I know he has spoke of his dad a lot in recent years.
Wow! ❤
Really, I can cry when I see this! In the old home town, old nazi town he plays with his father who survived the Holocaust and which factory was sold for nothing. Such a great family! And such a great artist. As a Germsn I appreciate this so much and be so grateful. It’s so sad and also heart-warming and funny at the same time! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love it
Wonderful moment. I wonder if his father playing inspired Billy or if he was forced to take lessons. Either way, my life has been blessed.
You can force a kid to play. You can never force them to play well. If they don't love it then it wont be happening.
His mother is the one who had him take piano lessons.
I think it's genetics as they are all musical. Billy, his daughters, his dad, his half brother and his mom.
Wow! I didn't know Billy's dad played too! Cool!
VERY NICE YOU BOTH.
Tie tucked into the pants. I love it!!
Badass
All the biographies said that his dad deserted them (billy, siblings and mom) on long island and went back to Vienna Germany and they hadn't spoken since
Maybe they were written prior to this. This was 1995 in Nuremberg Germany. Maybe it was a family reunion?
Vienna is in Austria
Billy had someone look for his dad in the 70s and they reunited. He has said many times that his dad sent checks to his mom when he was younger, so not total abandonment. His dad went through a lot and may have had his own issues to deal with. Wearing an american uniform and being sent back to Germany as a combat soldier in WWII to shoot at the people you grew up with, marching through Nuremberg rounding up Germans and then Dachau would definitely change a person. If Billy can forgive him who am I to judge.
Waouhhh
Amazing performance. Really great.
A+
Wow, wonderful! And how cool is it for his father to play that well and to share that experience with his talented son! Question: I'm wondering about any other available Q&A shows on UA-cam, showing him in the states during that time? I have the autographed Kurzweil Mark 150 grand piano sitting in the room here that he played when he was at Franklin & Marshall College, in Lancaster, PA. I'd be ecstatic to find a clip showing him playing that!
I saw the Q&A at F&M.
@@danielberger9435 Do you know of anyone that videoed the performance, Daniel?
It's so funny how kids inherit Talent.
❤❤❤❤❤FAMILY❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you! Loved it!
GERSHWIN
Just watched you with Alexa. Now your Dad. Talent abounds‼️Be blest☦️👩🏻🦳♥️ohio
In this Vincent...Vinnie...you have a friend 🍁...🎹🙋
Grumpy dad with an super talented puppy running circles around him!
👏👌🙌👏👏👏👏
I never understood why he reconnected with his dad after he left the family to go back to Vienna. The guy left him without a trace for years!
My dad did the same. It's hard to explain.
Is there a video of this complete show somewhere? I'd even rent or buy a copy.
1:42... oh, wow!
The spitting image of each other!
Gaahhh!!! That was awesome!!!
Revenge served ice cold if decades late.
?
gotta admire a man who tucks his tie into his pants
Jeebuz ...those last 2 chords!
His father's real first name is Helmut ...
Rag time. BLLY CAN PLAY RAG TIME BOOGIE AND JAZZ INCREDIBLE
It's "Nürnberg".
"Billy ask"?
What a charmed life.
Steven Beasley no one has a charmed life. He worked his talent and had luck and misery. He was suicidal twice. No one has a happy life. They experience moments of joy. Some more than others. Sadly. And hopefully. Total paradox.
Can somebody please tell me the intro music? I can't think of what it is for the life of me.
It's Billy's song Vienna.
Sucharita Kanjilal I was thinking that was the case - couldn't place it with the rest of the song though. Thank you!
He claimed his father disappeared when he was on 60 minutes Australia
What are they playing?????!!!!!!!!?!?!?!
I Got Rhythm by George Gershwin :D
+MrMillar27 thanks I thought no one would ever answer loll 👍✌
Happy Days Are Here Again
....... NUREMBERG GERMANY? ...... HOW
INTERESTING! .....
Which song is this 😅?
Hello we speak English in the United States of America.. not Mexican.
He had hair
Why did his dad leave him when he was younger?
He was more European than American, and apparently not the most enthusiastic father. After his divorce from Billy's mother he moved back to Vienna, where he died in 2011.
Dj Toman Vienna - nice segue way with what was playing at start of the video
You could see how much fun his dad was having ……NOT 😂
I’m friends with his sectarian and had lunch with him last year bottle of red bottle of white and bottle of roses instead
Love it
