What people commonly refer to as muscle memory isn't located in the muscle at all it's in the brain. When you do any action for example like play a specific guitar chord progression. You send neurons down a neurological pathway in your brain, the more you play that chord progression the more a substance called mylin develops on that neurological pathway. That results in a stronger and faster connection required to play that progression faster and effortlessly. I learned this from a book called the talent code, a great read investigating why people become great at various things and how they do it.
They're talking about a different type of "muscle memory" in this video i believe he's talking about how your body will regain lost muscle fast if you already had that muscle before but just lost it, like being on a long break from training, and then suddenly regaining all your strength fast in just few months of training. But with the "muscle memory" you're talking about, i completely agree.

If you are reading this muscle memory effect is legit. I trained regularly for 4 years since I was 15. After that a lot happened and I didn't hit the gym anymore. Now I am 2 weeks in and increasing my weight in all compound exercises in a heavy manner. I started low to let the passive structures adapt to the weight, but the muscles can definitely take a lot more weight. I hit the gym with a friend of mine and did a 1rm test, after two weeks of training I could lift my bodyweight easily in all of the compound exercises except military press ofc.
I hope that all those who spend their time on the phone take a break for about 5 years, knowing that they will recover their muscles again quickly and leave the gym for those of us who really go to work out because it is our passion.
I used to work out a lot from the age of 15 until I was 23, then I stopped for 10 years and came back 1 year ago. In 4 months it felt like I had been working out for 3 years, the body shapes itself very quickly and naturally, especially if you have an endomorph or mesomorph body type. And when I came back my strength was far superior to anyone who had never been to the gym, even though I had been sedentary for 10 years. (I came back doing bench press with 20kg on each side)
I danced for 12 years throughout childhood and my teenage years but had to stop to go away for Uni, ive recently started going to the gym and trying to gain that strength back. Ive gained so much muscle within the span of a couple weeks mainly in my calves and thighs, which were the strongest part of my body when i danced. Im amazed that after all these years my body can still have this insane memory
I always assumed it only affected movements in sports or martial arts. But this explains why after a solid break n going back to calisthenics I'm improving faster than before. Amazing fact!

Thank you. I was thinking of going on a grape fast next week, for a week, and was afraid of losing muscle. I think I’ll be alright going without protein for a while 👍🏼
I agree, you need protein to build muscle. I’m hoping to maintain muscle since I’ll still be going to the gym. Come to think about it, this isn’t what the video was about 😂 the grape fast must go on tho 🫡
honestly, i'm back to my previous strength + more withint 2-3 weeks after leaving for few months. It's crazy how quickly body regain, that too naturally, i never took any enhancement drugs ever.
I've had a herniated disc the last year been working out on and off through it. I'll be getting a microdiscectomy next month and it's nice to see how I'll be able to bounce back after so many interruptions
this is why you need to keep doing different variations of excercises. There are hundreds of different ways to do pushups and you can do other movements in between pushups.
Facts, I wanted to see what is what like to be fat so I quit working out for 2 years and sat for 8-16 hours a day. I gained 45lbs (160 lbs-205 lbs) and thought that was fat enough and started running and lifting again. My first run I jogged 3 miles and got some nasty shin splints but kept going. My first day back in the gym I was lifting a little over half of what I used to be able to. It took about a month but I lost 35lbs weighing 170lbs and I'm back to lifting my usual reps and weight. One thing I noticed is my metabolism is a little slower than what it used to be and my cognitive function seems to be slower as well. But that could be correlated to aging two years.
It blows my mind because I literally have fast muscle memory. I did a few years in the pen, use to work out heavy then stopped when i got out. I just recently started back and realized it doesn’t matter what type of workouts I do, I instantly can see a difference & no I’m not talking about the PUMP you get from working out i actually see long lasting results off the rip. It’s a great thing, but it kinda makes me stagnant because I know I can always work out for a few weeks and still look fit as hell
I left gym for a year or so. Joined again now and Regained previous form and strength in 3 months only. Hardwork stays with you forever.

I havent worked out in like 8 months because of a back injury but getting better now. Hope this works well
I‘d say depending on your genetics and how long you‘ve been working out you will be in the same if not better shape in less than 5months
@@diegodriano4839 hope so. Just gotta get through this initial part where I cant workout fully and then I'll be chill
I was sick for severap days and able to gain the strength after few days of training. We can’t underestimate our muscles
Thank you. I was thinking of going on a grape fast next week, for a week, and was afraid of losing muscle. I think I’ll be alright going without protein for a while 👍🏼
Without protein, I guess no. You need to keep up your protein.
I agree, you need protein to build muscle. I’m hoping to maintain muscle since I’ll still be going to the gym. Come to think about it, this isn’t what the video was about 😂 the grape fast must go on tho 🫡
This is awesome news for all former athletes!
This is cool but recent research afai remember also says this could be due to epigenetic reasons instead of the / just the nuclei theory.
Ay coming off about a month break this is GREAT NEWS! 😂
I saw something else with that thumbnail
good to know I'll hop back to running
Awesome love more knowledge about the human body def more motivation for the gim‼️
honestly, i'm back to my previous strength + more withint 2-3 weeks after leaving for few months. It's crazy how quickly body regain, that too naturally, i never took any enhancement drugs ever.
also, nerves grow when you train and big nerves will be with you forever
That’s where you get that pump baby!🏋️♂️💪💪
That thumbnail though
Can extreme starvation make the muscles forget these neurosignatures
I've had a herniated disc the last year been working out on and off through it. I'll be getting a microdiscectomy next month and it's nice to see how I'll be able to bounce back after so many interruptions
Nice 3d animation
All funny games till u tear something 😂😂
this is why you need to keep doing different variations of excercises. There are hundreds of different ways to do pushups and you can do other movements in between pushups.
Are you insanely dumb or just a troll?
"The thumbnail looks like something else"...
Gives me hope as a new comer
If stoped working out and than gained weight would u lost it go back ?
@hichammahmoudi3122 say again, buddy?
Yo this transitions so well together my ass was caught in a timeloop of muscle fibers
Please give subtitles to your videos
It took 3 year for my injury to get healed. Do you guys think muscle memory will speed up the process after this many years?
Needed this 😅
God bless my youth hockey coach. Thanks for the MM you absolute beaut
How long does muscle memory last according to your reading of the evidence? Thank you❤
Been left gym for 2 years but after 2 days of working out i can see a lot of muscle coming on
I think my muscle memory has amnesia 😅
about to head to basic and im so glad the body just does awesome things
