  • The Men's 3,000m Steeplechase Final at the Edinburgh 1970 British Commonwealth Games proved to be a significant moment in Australian athletics history, for an incredible victory and a heartbreaking fall.
Heading into the final two Australians, Kerry O'Brien and Tony Manning, were our country's best hopes against the Kenyan trio, arguably the best steeplechase athletes in the world.
As the race unfolded, Australia looked poised for a one-two result with O'Brien leading Manning, but on the penultimate lap, tragedy struck, as O'Brien fell, leaving Manning to go on to a historic victory.
