This adventure deserves a much, much bigger audience,
Thanks David! I'm planning to dedicate a lot more time to UA-cam soon, so hopefully I can grown the channel
Hey Dan, I watched each of your Africa videos as you originally released them years ago and recently have gone back and watched several of them again. I’ve backpacked, hitchhiked and overlanded much of Africa on many trip over the years of my youth and once you’ve been there you never quite forget the excitement and enjoyment you had. Since I watched this last African episode the first time my wife and I travelled to Jordan and Egypt. We had a great time and enjoyed them immensely. I’ve also spent time backpacking and some overlanding in Australia and watched all your episodes from there. Getting on in life now, in my late 60s and having survived cancer, my wife and I aren’t as adventurous as we once were but still enjoy our travels. Earlier this year we were in SE Asia, I had not returned there since 1989, and this autumn we are heading to Ecuador, Galapagos and Peru, hitting Machu Picchu to knock off more bucket list locations. Congratulations on your daughter, teach her well, she will get a great education seeing the world, albeit a bit young just yet but our son was just a baby when first took him overseas. Safe travels, have fun.
That is incredible, thanks for the wonderful message. I wish you all the best on your continued adventures, and I hope we bump into each other on the road someday.
-Dan
Asante sana Dan ,for showing us to the world ,and karibu again to Eastern Africa .

Thanks for the compliments! Stick around, plenty more to come !
Thanks 🙏 brother for showing us my people mama africa, god bless you.I’m somali living in USA 🇺🇸 Houston tx
Watching since the beginning. Been a pleasure. You should edit the whole thing into an entire film-length video, or condense the best bits down to documentary length.
It took me a little bit to get all the way through, but it was so rewarding to do so. Awesome trip and awesome presentation.
Awesome! Thank you!
If you'd like to get more into the details, I wrote a book about the whole trip - amzn.to/3pnVKu6
Welcome to gorgeous Egypt the cradle of Civilizations, where it all began. Congrats on your amazing journey and fantastic destinations!
Has it really been 3 years? Congrats on making it! Glad I've been watching along all this time!
what an amazing journey, thanks for sharing Dan, much appreciated.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Crazy that u moved through Africa solo, am so inspired, this has been my dream. I need to get off my couch .
It was the most amazing thing I've ever done in my life. I'm working hard right now to start the next adventure!
I found your channel today and watched the entire adventure all in ONE DAY, congrats on getting it done, i cant wait till i follow in your footsteps
Awesome! Happy to hear you enjoyed the whole thing!
I have too. Amazing journey
Hey man! Thank you so much for taking me with you on this massiv adventure! I know it cheesy to say, but you inspired me to do the same, in my abilities, travel and go out and see the world with my own eyes. I also bought a jeep and i love it. Thanks again man! I hope the travel depression is over by now and you have the next thing planned out!
Thanks for the support Florian! .. absolutely. I'm resting and saving and starting to dream more and more about the next one!
I found your channel through your alcan videos, stayed for everything else! what an amazing journey that Africa tour was, I watched all of it in two days so thanks so much for sharing!
You are welcome Bill, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it !
There are plenty of new adventures now and in the future!!
Man, your Travelling stamina and bravery blow me away. I realy respect you.

You did well brother. Thank You
Thank you too!
Congratulations!!! watched every video ..Thank you for sharing Africa with us..ONE LOVE!!!!!!!!
Cheers!
This is definitely my top 3 favourite channels on UA-cam
Great series Dan, I really enjoyed it. I'll be honest, I listened to you talk about Africa at the NW Overland Rally last year. Still I had absolutely zero interest in exploring Africa myself. Now that I've watched your video series on it I am convinced that I need to do an overland trip to Africa in the future. What an amazing continent! I can't wait to read your book about your adventures there.
Thanks Kirk, I'm happy to hear the videos inspired you!
Man this is great . Amazing video and the way you comment your video is was unusual ...contrary to some visitors who just come to Africa to complain . You just enjoy your trip . Big respect
You have done so much and touched so many. I have had just the best time following your travels and I truly hope that you continue. I understand that you need to take care of some things, but I would love to see you move through South America, next.
Thanks for the kind words!
Actually from 2009 to 2011 I drove from the top of Alaska to the bottom of Argentina. 40,000 miles through 17 countries! I loved it, but the next grand trip will be someplace new!

WAY TO GO DAN!!!
Awesome adventure! My son and I loved meeting you at EXPO East.
Well done mate! Quite an accomplishment.
Just finished watching this, am in Kenya 🇰🇪 and , am inspired, next time you visit Kenya 🇰🇪 I’ll host you up for free- and take you out into all the best scenes ever - you will need a week or two- am inspired bro keep it up and welcome.
Sounds good!
Thanks so much for the years of quality uploads. I’ve learned a lot from your travels. Has a trans-Eurasia trip ever crossed your mind? Lisbon to Shanghai or Singapore to Stockholm. Something like that. Would love to see it.
Hi Taylor - thanks very much for the kind words and support, that really means a lot to me.
Absolutely a trans-Eurasia is on my list of dreams. I need to save money, plan and dream and then I'll get into my next adventure. There will absolutely be more coming!
Thanks allot for letting me take part in this adventure. It's been a blast. So many places and faces. It's a beautiful world.
Greetings from Brazil. Fantastic journey!!! I've watched all episodes. Thanks for sharing this.
Wow, congratulations Dan!
I believe some kind of bigger movie will come out soon. Hard to believe you took so little footages :)
I'm working on many things right now, and that's one of them for sure!
This is where Jeeps became really famous and useful during WW2 with the SAS whom built a stellar reputation for punching way above their weight behind Afrika Korp lines creating immense havoc using MB2 Jeeps to destroy enemy airfields, ports and logistics. Pure genius
fabulous bro,you had me sinking deep into your documentary travel video,it brings a real image like its me travelling, have completed too with you😅😅. kudos🥰
Really nice adventures. Will wait for more..
Just mind blowing.... thankyou for taking us along. I'd never do Africa- but I do have a Arctic Circle trip in mind.... Besides that, the Pacific Northwest has plenty to see.
I've heard nothing but terrible things about Egypt regarding tourism.
It's a shame because they hold some of the most interesting historical
landmarks. Regardless, they won't catch me dead there. I'll just see it vicariously through your videos. Much respect with your journey.
Awesome adventure. Thanks for sharing :) Congratulations!!
Well done man, respect. Followed all your videos from the beginning. Life is on the way in my case with kids and mortgage and so on... but one day I will do something similar with the wife. Greetings from Portugal🇵🇹👍
Congratulations!!!!!!
Congrats! Its been a pleasure following your travels here. Glad you made it safe and sound. What an endorsement for Jeep. I hope they sponsor your next trip!
Cheers, thanks for following along!
Wow what a trip :) Talk about a bucket list item kudos to you Sir.
You're a true inspiration Dan!
Extraordinary journey!!! Congrats!
Could you do the same intercontinental cross-travelling with the new 2021 Defender? I bet it would be hard replacing all those electronics in that new Defender-box. JLR continues manufacturing it's unreliable boxes!!!!
Congratulations! What a pleasure for me to been able to see your trip around Africa! hope some day I could make same thing as you but around South, Central and maybe North America!
Go for it, you won't regret it - I had the adventure of my lifetime when I did that trip!
Its been an awesome adventure to follow!
Congrats. Awesome!
Will miss my tour of Africa! Watched 'em all, thanks a bunch.
You're welcome and thanks for the support!
What a great adventure we’ve witnessed . Looking forward to your next leg. Steve 🇦🇺
Cheers Steve!
What a fantastic trip, thank you for sharing!
Well done, Dan,!
Dan, you’re an inspiration! I wanted to do this but i unfortunately don’t have a big off-road Jeep. I have a lowered MK6 Golf and watched your videos to take me all the way from the UK to Gambia and back. Lowering was a bad teenage decision but it made it there and back. Couldn’t have done it without you, I took your warnings, especially for no mans land, if you remember that?
Absolutely! So happy to hear you went for it and had a great time. Adventure is what it's all about!
Wish you had continued to the gulf. Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Oman have an epic local overlanders community and there are tons of places to discover and all of them are very safe
I'd suggest you plan a trip to Oman because it's truly a bizarre country with a very alternative culture and massive deserts
Also Saudi Arabia has a ton of places to discover that are secluded from the rest of the world
I really want to get there, and it's absolutely a future destination!
At the time I was utterly exhausted and out of money, so it simply wasn't an option.
Next time!
As I've watched your video series what I caught of it and a spectacular pictures you have convinced me that if I ever buy another suv-type vehicle it will probably be a Jeep like yours not rigged out like yours but for a daily driver that vehicle took a pounding I certainly will be getting the manual transmission like yours love the content and you're an inspiration to me sincerely Derek Ohio USA
Thanks Derek! Absolutely get out there and have adventures, that's what it's all about!
Highest respect for you Dan for having the guts (or stupidity) to undertake such an amazing/dangerous, risky adventure. My parents were from Eldoret and Arusha. Myself (born in Pretoria, SA) is just to aware of all the crime, bribes and politics involved. With our collapsed currency (SA rand) we could also not afford such expensive travels anymore. Also our corrupt government does not support (white) citizens in case of trouble. Wishing you the best of luck in future and wish most of all that you will find Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, because at the end of life's adventures, that was all that ever mattered. That is to be reconciled with God and the promise to live with Him forever. Love from S. Africa.
Thanks Alexander!
I always say there is a fine line between brave and stupid.. and sometimes it's hard to say which side I'm on!
Hi Greg hope your well buddy when you went crossed from Susan to Egypt did you go by road or use the ferry as we are thinking of doing this trip if so could you let me no what way you went. Thanks buddy have a good day from the UK
I drove the more common Eastern Route via Waddi Halfa and drove from Sudan into Egypt, but then 10km later you catch a ferry up to Abu Simbel.
You drive the car on and off the ferry yourself, don't give the keys to anyone, etc. etc. It's like a normal car ferry, very straightforward and simple.
There is also a kind of newer crossing to the West called Argeen where you drive the whole way. Friends did it and said it was great, much smaller and quieter.
Thanks mate you have been very helpful and your videos are great thanks again buddy
Nice
You should do a collab with venture 4x4
1:07 usually you're supposed to replace your plates with the Egyptian ones
at least that's what Israelis vacationing in Sinai have to do
(maybe because Israeli plates might trigger them or something)
I live in Moncton NB, contact me while you're passing through.
Congrats on the trip, that is amazing! I have been a Jeep owner for only a month and am planning my firs three day trip this coming weekend. I have so many questions! But first is a simple gear question: how useful were the traction birds and how did you mount them to the spare tire?
They are extremely useful when you need them, and I won't go on a trip without them again.
I wrote an article about how I mounted them to the AEV tire carrier here theroadchoseme.com/diy-maxtrax-aev-hi-lift-mount
@@TheRoadChoseMe Thank you for that link, very enlightening. It turns out that AEV does NOT make the hi-lift/pull-pal mount for the JL yet:(. But the good news is that I had never heard of a pull-pal, had to look it up... I see the wisdom of having one on the rig! Thanks again for providing so much info in so few words, it is an art form you are truly mastering!
Wait, you just happen to find your brother in law in Egypt? So was that your sister on the boat? That’s kind of amazing.
Haha, no, he had been working there for a couple of years at that point. He's the brother of my brother's wife. I say brother in law, but I don't think we usually say that in English (other languages do)
wow
How is a gasoline Jeep holding? Would you recommend CRD?
Wait, you never did the last video ? this one is 52/53 and I couldn't find any 53/53
👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Nooooooo! More videos please.
@whàt budget is the 54000 km journey eg fuel food visas petrol water, how about medical costs and requirements thank you
Hi Paul, I go into a lot of budget details in this video: ua-cam.com/video/XeR3SncZkv0/v-deo.html
Hi Dan. Great channel, congrats. Did you get a refund of the 500 USD you paid for the carnet de passage?
It was never a deposit. The Carnet in Egypt "costs" $500. You pay that (and nothing else) and you never get anything back.
@@TheRoadChoseMe -Damn expensive! I guess it was paying that or adding 3 more years to retrace your steps
Cheaper than the "fee" charged to get a regular 1 year carnet from basically any country in the world, plus you need a hefty deposit down....
@@TheRoadChoseMe I know. I'm preparing a South to North expedition but I learned that CDP is mandatory to enter Kenya and that means a huge deposit, just for one country...And, of course, I don't want to skip Kenya at all, so I guess I will have to save some more money just to get the CDP
Sooo....how many percent the total off road that u drive for the whole trip in this africa continent alone.
😎👍
Why and how did you get egyptian licence plates?
At the border Egypt requires foreign vehicles to use Egyptian license plates temporarily for the duration of the stay. I had to give them back at Customs, unfortunately.
Egypt is on the only country in the 55 I've driven to that requires this.
What's next? Asia?
Covid is messing everything up (borders are closed).. so something fun is coming very soon, then net major one hopefully kicks of early next year!
Next pantagonia
That was actually my first trip 10 years ago - Alaska to Argentina - theroadchoseme.com/expedition-overview
Hi please fix camera on centre mirror, all your videos you took left side view not centre view and left side view is irritating
Why you don’t come Somalia it’s save special northern Somali land
Congratulations, but technically you did not complete the lap around Africa, you missed Libya, Tunisia and Algeria!
I tried really hard, but Libya wouldn't issue me a visa (and Egypt wouldn't let me get close to the border anyway) and the border between Algeria and Morocco has been closed for a long time unfortunately.
@@TheRoadChoseMe Are there any other countries that you tried to go to but you were unsuccessful in obtaining the visa for?
That's really the only one I tried hard for. Ghana was being painful and I skipped it because it would have been hard to get the Jeep in without an international customs document.
I didn't try for countries like South Sudan or Somalia because I decided they weren't safe enough. I don't know if I would have been issued a visa or not - but I think yes.
@@TheRoadChoseMe wonder why the border between Morocco and Algeria was closed? What an amazing adventure!
They've been unfriendly to each other for a very long time.
