When I first made my parents take the enneagram, my mum was constantly typed as a type 4, however she always believed that she is a type 5 because she ''loves to research everything''. Ok - that is true - but I've never managed to convince her that she is really a 4w5.
Another example, I was almost convinced that I might be a type 8 when I first discovered the enneagram because I was so passionate about defending others rights and opinions (to the extent where I would get on my relatives' nerves). As I dived deeper, I realised that my stress arrow goes to a type 8 (I'm a 2) and that since I have social anxiety and horrible fear of judgement, I am often stressed when someone judges anyone unfairly! That activates my stress arrow, and I act very similar to a type 8.
    Love your videos, Thx! 💙

This is exactly what I’m talking about! Way to dig deeper and uncover your true motivations and land on your core type. Thanks for sharing this! ❤️

I think this is where tritype can help someone a lot.
The 1st number is your core, your core fears, desires, weaknesses, longings, etc.
The 2nd number is what you use to try and fulfill those needs, and it mainly focuses on your behaviors.
This is why your 2nd number can be shown to the outside world a lot more.
Like, a friend of mine is a 5w4, but she exudes LOTS of type 4 behaviors, but the core fears and desires are of a 5. On first glance, she'd be a type 4 but she's a type 5. (548)
    I am a type 9w1 but I exude behaviors of a type 2. (926)
Some people have a strong 2nd fix and it can confuse it with their core.
Please keep this in mind when you're typing yourself/others, along with how healthy you/they are.

      This comment is everything.
      That’s why at a glance, people would see me as a 7 but I’m actually a 3.

Great video Hilary! I think this is a myth that needs constant challenging. Sometimes our core motivations can lead us to seemingly counter-intuitive behaviors. For example, I'm a 1 and I have a love/hate relationship with organizing. I love that it keeps things on track, but I also hate how it can diminish my adaptability. I feel like its wrong to not be available/free in case someone needs me. I think we all have plenty of examples like this where our cores can lead us to unexpected behaviors.

I'm a Four but I found the Enneagram around the same time I was coming to terms with an anxiety disorder, so I briefly fixated on the idea that I was a Six because they were "the most anxious." Then I realized the way I relate to my anxiety is much more in line with being a Four. I'm very open and in touch with it, to the point that sometimes I have to watch out for over-identifying it. I need to remind myself that I'm still me if I'm in recovery.

People constantly type me a six or a nine when they hear I have anxiety. Also a 4, mistyped as a 5. Every time I read e6 I don't relate at all, even slightly

Sometimes people don't seeem to believe I could be a 7 (because I'm not an in your face outgoing person) but that 6 wing just sometimes seems to take over...the life of a counter type is tough. There's always a struggle between what I want to do and what I should do, and even how I want to act and fear of rejection if I act that way (becaue that was my experience in childhood).

@@enneagramandcoaching /that would be great! People don't seem to understand that an extrovert is not always outgoing. I am an extrovert....I get my energy, my recharge from people...not from time alone

Hillary!!!! You’re amazing, I love your channel!! I honestly want to do a Zoom session just because I think it would be so interesting. Maybe one day I’ll find something I need and have an excuse to buy a Zoom session with you. 🙈 I’m ENFP 4w3 sx/sp. I’m curious to know what your take on tritype is? I know it’s a newer theory so there are debates.
