fun fact: in the Cyberpunk lore the US Military had adopted a bullpup rifle very reminescent of the L85, so oddly enough it's not that off-mark
I'm sure the Corps would want to maintain a bare minimum of order to prevent any notion or idea of intervention by the US Military. Night City is a literal free zone for them to do whatever they want, so they won't allow it to completely fall apart.
Not that the USA couldn't kick the asses of the Corps. It'd just a be a tough fight.
@Ajit Adonis Manilal pretty sure the US have the law to against companies doing monopolies this help in preventing any company become powerful heck in the past british east india company forced to gave india to british government
@Ajit Adonis Manilal The monopoly laws would force any big companies from getting too powerful to be fractured
@Ajit Adonis Manilal You say corps but defense contractors make all of their money from, well, contracts. All of their equipment is used by militaries and they are only responsible for development, production and sometimes upkeep. A group like Blackwater would get extinguished immediately, as they lack heavy weaponry or armoured vehicles, or numbers. The biggest thing any defense contractor could do is just stop developing weapons and leak their developments to foreign enemies. But again, no reason to as the US is their primary source of income by a long shot.
@Ajit Adonis Manilal Executive Outcomes doesn’t even operate anymore.
Corporations: _I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND!_
Military: Oh really?
Military: *Throws Crayons at Mega Corp*
Corp:???what is this for?
*Marine Corp has entered chat*
@@marcus4046 Fun Fact, both Morgan Blackhand and Johnny Silverhand are former Marines.
@@WeirdTale so you are saying that a normie retiree of the marines whooped the corpos asses just out of beredom?.... holy fucc
That explains why Adam Smasher is referred to as a min lvl test for playing witht he big bois
@@WeirdTale no they weren't, pretty sure on wiki and all other sources they were US Army. Even in the game talking to a guy named Mitch who also was former army, Johnny started to shared his experiences while he was in to V.
"meanwhile the army itself will destroy half of the building because of one sniper" this one got me
It trully is the American Way.
Battlefield moment.
That seems like it isn't exactly ridiculous for the US Army to do that, actually. Even seems like a practical ideas.
This whole time I thought the corporations had more military power then the government due to the us army having to fight so many wars and spend hella money... this video was informative
the 4th corporate war ended because the worlds military's (mainly the US) got fed up with all the destruction and chaos.
Same
@✪Hidden Not exactly. The NUS had just fought the Reunification War, and essentially everyone was exhausted. That's the main reason they stepped back when Arasaka made that move. The general rule remains that megacorps do not want to get into open warfare against major national militaries. The corpos have the best toys, but the Army got more and bigger toys. And doesn't care about making a profit, it cares about stomping whatever it's pointed at into the ground. The few times corpos ignored that rule just about never ended well for them, the classic example being Mantoga Inc. getting effectively wiped off the face of the planet by the US military.
It's the East India trading company all over again.
This video sounds like a documentary on some Alternate History Channel...
It is mate let the learning begin
It could very well be our FUTURE universe tbh.
the cyberpunk2077 universe has so much potential i can't wait for the next cyberpunk game
Interdimensional History Channel.
I hope they don’t just pretend the US military doesn’t exist. I kinda like the idea that even these massive corporations aren’t just de facto governments. It allows the corporations to be the economic institutions not political institutions.
Remember Johnny Silverhand was a combat veteran of the South American wars
Times had changed by 2077. The Free State of North California always had its own separate military from the US and their military was used in a more pro-corprate way. Still it could be cool to see having the military on their side making a corporation more powerful in Night City
Well considering how responsible corporations are for rebuilding most U.S cities it's not unlikely they're heavily involved in politics
The dystopian consequences of corporations being involved in politics, and everything beyond just being economic institutions, is the whole idea of Cyberpunk as a genre.
That’s the entire point though. It’s a dystopian city governed by corporations. It’s honestly not that different from how corporations are today either, just turned up to 11.
Like how the first clips you used were of the British Army, using SA80s, remember me of the JGSDF from Akira, with the future looking guns.
I had to sadly use these because they were highest quality and also royalty-free, all US army clips are too expensive :(
That's what I thought lol
@@LastKnownMeal aw that sucks, but kinda ironic to the rw
@@LastKnownMeal I like it, it's the tacticool version of the future looking gun from AKIRA, one of the most influential sci-fi anime of all times, from where the Cyberpunk universe and Cyberpunk 2077 surely take inspiration and influence, particularly the City as a major character in the story.
Ssssssshhhhhhh dont tell anyone they wont notice
I miss America. That's why I'm doing nomad, it just seems very American themed.
The last group who pretty much value freedom, independence, education and a loving supportive family unit.
U also leave Night City
Which is a win
@Liberty Prime Call them whatever you want, people who value family are always the good guys
@Liberty Prime ?
@@somethingmoredecent *puts a kkk hood and burns minorities but loves his children who he had with his cousin*
Ah yes, the good guys
I like the idea that the US military is this massive force that is much larger than our own IRL but largely has a domestic orientation. I also like that no single corporation can equal the sheer military power of a major world government and thus choose avenues to gain influence and wealth that don't upset the host country too much. I feel like corporations are going to have military power in order to keep doing what corporations do but at scale. They're not interested in governing anything greater than a city-state and frankly don't need to.
The US military in the game is very poor, the big boys are the Empire of Japan and Europe
That would be cool to have an option down the line to somehow bring in the US military to stop the corporates.
But who know that could be an option.
It could work or not.
Would be cool, but that won't happen, it would cause a huge incident and probably would shift the future story a lot.
@@LastKnownMeal yeah I could see military intervention definitely messing things up.
Cool idea but complicated future.
@@outcast8223 If you look at the lore, thus isn't plausible given that Night City is part of the Free State of California.
@@outcast8223 After the 4th Corporate war, the U.S. is mostly just the east coast down to Atlanta and parts in the Midwest, generally ending at the Mississippi river. The Cogs in that area are military police basically while the few surviving cogs outside that zone are raiders or pseudo-nations. Night City is in the Free State of North California and had its own military separate from the cog system that was always partly more pro-corprate than not.

Talk about the US Military, how about the Federal Law Enforcement agencies are they still around in Cyberpunk 2077?? Like the FBI, NCIS, SECRET SERVICE AND THE US MARSHAL SERVICE??
Heavily diminished. The Gang of Four (FBI, CIA, NSA and DEA) effectively seized control of the US government in the 80's and are chiefly to blame for the US' collapse in the mid-90's, then got purged significantly.
They are Deepstate agencies.

I cannot wait for cyberpunk but I will be honest that I really wanted a type of World similar to Ghost in the Shell where the whole world is military ran vs corporate ran
How's the game so far?
I prefer Cyberpunk's world
Ghost in the Shell is designed for that grand cyberpunk plot but Cyberpunk builds this setting that works for a smaller pov
Sorry I had to tab out for a minute and check if this was a Cyberpunk video or if I just Mandela'd into the future and was watch a historical documentary about the year 2020.
Your name 'LastKnownMeal' and exotic russian accent makes me think you're like a small NPC citizen in one of 11 Bit Studio's depressing survival sims
I wonder if there is Area 51 in cyberpunk and what about aliens in general, things I would like to ask Mike Pondsmith
I’m so exited for this game that I would literally get hibernated until December (cuz I’m getting it for Christmas) just to play the game.
Considering I love history and alternate history the richness of the lore of this game is basically one massive wetdream lmao
I best move for the corps would be taking over space as long as the governments are preoccupied on earth.
I wonder if we'll get to go to space in Cyberpunk
ofc not
nope
Well in the game air travel is in the stratosphere so maybe I guess
DLC maybe
@@Bakaslinger There will be flying cars you can go in (Not drive, just be in) but I doubt there will be any space shite
With phantom liberty having the us military getting involved in night city I'm curious to see what consequences will be. Night City could become us terroritory in future titles or the cities independence being fortified.
Just as I was about to eat. Thank you, _soldier._
I wouldn't mind a Zhukov moment where a Zhukov type just shows up with an army of loyal men and just rounds every corpo up and arrests them lmao.
I love how his US Army footage are from the British Army lol.
Neat.
Yo this is cool and all but what the hell is the Chinese military like in 2077.
I will gather some information and see if it's fit for a video.
My guess is that China is irrelevant since the cyberpunk genre got big during Japan's bubble economy (western fear of Japan's technological and economic rise/orientalism of thier intense work ethic) . Kinda like how modern interpretations showcase more of China and South Korea. I doubt anyone in the 80's imagined that Japan would be stuck in the analog era while their 3rd world neighbors becoming what they are now today.
@@ljyljy88 Lmao not sure what you're going on about mate, Japan still remains one of the top economies in all of asia and is front and center when it comes to innovation and cutting edge technology. In comparison to China just like the 80's-early 90's it was still in complete shambles and had major inner turmoil going on let alone room to usher in economic and technological innovation.
The main factor and the reason why Japan didn't reach the scale of China is precisely that, the scale. At the end of the day Japan is a very small island nation with zero outside claims worth a damn and a military that has had it's balls tied since WW2. China on the other hand has been a powerhouse in terms of potential, land mass and manpower for much of the modern era and the only reason they didn't become the behemoth we see today is because while the US, Canada, The brits, Japan and a select few euro nations had literally been industrialized for well over 100+ years China was still engulfed in inner turmoil and almost all of their population was illiterate and still working the land as farm peasants, couple that with the civil war [which happened in the midst of Japanese invasion and WW2 ] the disasters of communism and the disgusting corruption for many decades after and you have a failure.
Yet the moment Deng Xiaoping ushered in his economic reforms and they decided to embrace foreign trade [and extremely sly economical invasion of foreign lands, cough australia cough] they quickly became a superpower and that is because the very foundation of what they are, being the massive landmass and population, was finally able to be put to it's full potential.
However Japan? They never had that type of manpower nor did they have that type of landmass and their crimes against humanity and subsequent defeat and the bondage placed on them after WW2 sealed their fate.
China is still there. It is a party dictatorship, and the military is still part of the party hierarchy as today. There was the Pacific Rim Sourcebook which went into greater detail on Australia, Korea and other odd places in that region.
@@Cneq China in the cyberfuture of 2020 is a communist police state running a planned economy. People work in harsh conditions in state farms. The closest thing to a middle/upper class is the party cadres that administrate the system.
Talking about that, the us military dlc trailer just drop.
That all sounds horribly prescient.
I was always given the impression that the corps now overshadowed any other military, including the us, which is why the corps have seemingly full rain over countries. I mean, the 4th corporate war between arasaka and militech what catastrophic, almost leading to an apocalypse. But if the us military really is capable of taking both out with ease, if a nation of equal strength to the us were to declare war, one can only imagine the devastation it would bring.
Funny thing, the US military isn't even the top dog around either. That's the Europeans. The EEC doesn't have megacorps quite as big as the American and Japanese ones or SovOil, but the eurocorps and governments form their own sort of microcosmos with its own unwritten rules, where their own rivalries are kept mostly at the level of espionage and the odd commando raid and outside powers trying to break in tend to get dogpiled by everybody.
The result is that Europe is the economic and military 500-pound gorilla of the whole setting, and even Arasaka and Militech have to tread very lightly there because fucking with one smaller-sized rival corp in Europe can easily cause half a dozen others and the local government to join the party and kick out the noisy outsider.
Also, the Euros are one of two parties to have full-scale space warfare capability. (The other is the Highrider Confederation, and they're essentially ESA stations that declared independence and take a position of armed neutrality in earthside affairs.) And the ESA has a standing policy that nobody else is allowed to build that, on pain of getting their space program blown to pieces. They fought a full-on orbital war with the US before, and it ended in the US Space Force ceasing to exist, after the Euros closed it out with a kinetic strike on the USSF/USAF headquarters in Colorado Springs.
@@magni5648 Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Europe only totally dominant in terms of the economy? Sure there not push overs by any means but last I checked they were only dominant militarily in space. And even then the NUSA still maintains a capable force in space that’s more than capable of putting up a fight. Additionally that six hour space war was ultimately won as the Europeans refused to fight the NUSA in space and instead just glassed their HQ. Something they won’t be able to do again as the NUSA in the aftermath said that should they do that again instead of actually fighting in space they’ll just nuke the entirety of Europe in retaliation. This is also not mentioning that the NUSA maintains the largest and most well equipped navy and iirc army as well.
Games lore is totally gonna happen.
I remember when I heard then talk about the corpo wars and CDC disbanding I was like
Pfft... as if the people would ever get the balls... not in my lifetime
It already happened.
Corporations have gotten so big that they made their own private militaries to fight another corporate entity.
The British East India Company would often fight wars with the Dutch East India Company and other corporations around India and other locations.
In more recent times in the U.S unions and corporations specifically mining corporations.
Corporations would either hire or form their own small armies to fight unions and keep workers in line.
For a long while in U.S history a bunch of battles occurred between unions and companies the biggest of which being the battle of Blair Mountain with 2 aircraft being rented and dropping bombs and trenches being made it lasted a few days till the national guard came in and put a stop to it.
I definitely see corporate entities getting as big and powerful if not more than the British East India Company in the near future.
@@adamisacomedian6344 I hear you, I tell people this too. I love this comment.
But the corpo wars in cyberpunk is when the people and corporations go to war. And it's huge.
Corporations don't have as much powers as they did - and they still have a lot of power. Let that sink in.
I believe we are basically at that point.
Corporations have there way with so much and I could put examples like the need for mining and the need for control.
Just look up Elons reaction to the water car. It exists. It's possible.
Elon said no no waste.
Because we need mining. We need the millions in profit.
Just look at Dubais fucking light fixtures that last forever.
We can't have that- because we gotta keep cashing in.
Just look at the lawsuits hitting Kaiser Permanente for ignoring patients.
They wants you to keep cashing in. And in the end? Die without making a will. So the bank can take everything you are.
@@psychoticdaizyproductions569 I know and strongly agree with you but I don't think we're at that point exactly yet, we still can do something about and even in Cyberpunk people and governments can still do something about corpos and can dismantle them if they please. That's what happened after the 4th corpo war between Arasaka and Militech the world's governments put a stop to the war and put serious restrictions to what corporations can do and we can still do that today.
I just hope we don't have a corpo war to show us that we need to seriously put restrictions on corporations and moniter what they do closely.
They already cause wars.
The Banana Republics in Central America is a good example.

In 2077 the ex CEO of Millitech is the current president. President Myers.
Beautiful game 👏👏
I have always been confused by this pop culture idea of huge private militaries every single significant private military corporation today seems either like a plausible deniability thing(ex Russia supplying wagner with shit and making them do stuff but telling the us that Wagner had nothing to do with them and that they) or groups that rely on military’s to do the expensive stuff that make militaries real militaries. In the end the only thing more expensive than maintaining a proper military is using it and the state has it in its interests to protect you.
A clear majority of the economic power comes from the top corporations which teamed together and formed a council and eventually reached a higher influence than even the government itself. Basically the military hasn't changed but the structure of politics has.
It has changed because the US in cyberpunk is basically a minor power and could easily be crushed by Europe and Japan
In tim curry’s voice: SPACE
And we will find out... In DLC
2077: The USA got completely privatised centuries ago, next topic.
Sooo, basically Cyberpunk follows the same logic than Fallout of an alternate timeline in the future?
Yup instead of the timeline splitting from ours IRL in the 1950's, in the Cyberpunk universe things split in the 1990's. Like Fallout though even before the split there were small bug significant differences like Aarasaka being made post WW2 to rebuild Japan. Like Fallout as well after the time split technology compared to ours increased like crazy!!!
A part of me is weirdly disappointed that the military is still around because, historically speaking, Very Fun Things happen when you've got a bunch of people who know how to fight and are out of a job.
Just cuz we aren't at war doesn't mean we don't have a job FYI.
I mena, that's kind of a constant issue in corpo-heavy areas like Night City anyway? Corpos hire guys for their bush war adventures, then toss 'em out on the streets when the party's over and/or the hired goons show signs of problems, like onset PTSD/cyberpsychosis etc. A pretty significant portion of cyberpsychos in NC are ex-corporate soldiers.
I would love too get paid in sick cybernetics

Remember military’s are the biggest corporations
Not in the cyberpunk genre. Its core tenet is how corpos became the new government. In this Cyberpunk universe, the NUSA with its heavily reduced tax base can't sustain the same military power as before...
Remember people that there’s no bigger corporation than the government.
And the core tenet of the cyberpunk genre is how the Corpos become the government, or at least have more than undue influence on the government...

You can play cyberpunk 2077 and get the gist this is a city (literally npc’s call it the autonomous night city) it’s just extra info for background on how the world got fucked. You don’t need it but if you wanna know more it’s there. Also there are games prior to 2077. Quit being a nonce
