"Common Ground" Lyrics:
I know we both want to do the right thing
But the needle in our compass is trembling
Trapped in the flames as our house burns down
Left for dead cause we can't find common ground
We can't find common ground so we agree to burn it down
We can't let it burn down so we need to find common ground
It's so hard to find the truth
When the other side wants to bury you
It's so hard to find the way
When the other side wants to play you like a game
It's all about who's wrong and who's right
Don't wanna learn
We just just wanna fight
If different thinkers are enemies
Just think of what we could be if our thoughts were in harmony
[chorus]
We're stuck in a maze of conviction
Every path leads back to the beginning
We built these walls
It's all about who's wrong and who's right
Don't wanna learn
We just wanna fight
We've been blurring the lines between dreams and reality
Only the truth could set us free
[chorus]
Your heart's in the same place
But your mind is a million miles away
And it's forcing us to separate
Talk to us!

This band didn't sell out. They're just growing and maturing with the music they make.
true
Their album We Will All Evolve was incredible, Age of Ignorance was pretty good as well, everything since then has been decent at best.. Sounds as generic as any other post hardcore band coming out with new music these days.. sucks, cuz I used to love this band. I mean, go back and listen to their songs like "The Air I Breathe" or "Across the Ocean" and tell me this stuff isn't generic.
MooChicken9000 well considering they've been releasing all their music independently for like 3 years without a label i'd say they're the exact opposite of selling out just on that fact alone
Doogen agreed. Their sound hasn't changed almost at all since Oak Island and that's why I'm just not that into them anymore
gopillar lol that doesn't mean shit, if I ain't got a label but I compose my songs with the intent to sell them the most possible, i'm selling out. And I do feel that's their case, there are parts of their new songs that I wonder "are they even having fun playing/composing this?" because it sounds boring and generic IMO
As an electrical technician, I feel obligated to say that those lighting fixtures look dangerous as hell. Great song guys.
Haha we broke a couple during the shoot. They are all protective taped with packing tape so when they explode they are contained! :) Thanks for the cool comment!
why is it that I can't go on a band video anymore without people complaining about how the band changed their sound...
Not very much people like change.
People are nostalgic...
Yea I get that and all but it's like they don't even wanna give the new sound a try, they just jump to conclusions and say this band is shitty bc they don't sound like how they did before and what not
I like more this style, also like white tiger, Idk in this world are people who likes changes and who don't.
Artemyz yea like I actually enjoy Younger Dreams, my favorite songs being Imaginary Monster and A World Divided. It just shows how much they've improved as a band
First when I heard this song didn't like it that much. But now it's one of my favorites. Never stop releasing music guys, you are the best.
It takes some time to understand what it says. We are glad you gave it a chance, and let it sink in! :)
wow
Same Here bro .
Just think of what we could be if our thoughts were in harmony
@@OurLastNightBandOnly those who lives the same situation will understand that beautiful song 🎵 ❤
imagine how this would sound if it was acoustic :o
DarioOreo's Awww. I think it will sound nice 😍❤
+Brootality Dawg stfu
Brootality Dawg wow you're actually one of those people
DarioOreo's OMG😍
PLEASE MAKE AN ACOUSTIC VERSION
The song America needs right now.
“A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
god damn.. that's the best Trevor has ever sounded screaming. More of that please
Hollow Front u heard him in the Radioactive Cover? xd
That part is so good in Radioactive
Hollow Front I Love his Sreaming Part in A World Devided :3
We Will All Evolve-era
Really, son? You never heard their We Will All Evolve album then
They've really stepped up their writing and overall quality of their music, I'm absolutely loving this song.
seriously! selective album is a SICK album.
This song has a "nostalgic" feel to it. I really dig it
Not The Expert I agree
Yea cus sounds like bmth. Love it
Fuck yea bmth has certain songs (maybe follow you ) that sounds like this
Not The Expert loved your best of 2018 dawg
Producer: "How many light bars do you want ?"
The band: "Yes!"
anyone else getting oak island vibes?
Maxime Laflamme i hope they getting back to the djenty-posthardcore style from oak island😬
Love that atmosphere in that EP.
it get lost
OurLastNightBand I love you❤❤❤
can I use this in a montage?
3 years passed and its still good, music is never aged
God forbid a rock band gets slightly softer and half their fan base that is trapped in the past cries out "Sellouts" or "This soft pop crap sucks." There's this thing called expanding your tastes in music. I've been there. I used to only listen to 5 core bands, maybe a couple underground ones and that's it. But then over the years I've come to like almost every genre of music (there are certain genres I stay away from). I've expanded my music library from a couple hundred to now over a thousand or two. But that comes with an open mind (and ears).
echo_503 Yeah i agree, I prefered their style before but i still like this and if they want to change that's their right no matter the reasons
echo_503 same
yep. I loved there music from the start. honestly, I'm a bit more into punk rock, metal and screamo than anything else. now I listen to rap, indie, folk, and even a bit of country. I might not know all the big artists but I do know some songs. Im not a fan of botdf but I don't diss their music, band, or fanbase. not my style of music, doesn't mean it isn't someone else's.
echo_503 but you need to accept that there are people who don't like that the song is softer than the previous ones. Maybe just because they don't like soft music and that's it. Of course no one should call them names but it's people's opinions still (not mine btw, I absolutely love the song) :)
preach!
Love this song! Everyone is saying they should scream more but I actually like this way better!
Bart Ramselaar agreed
Bart Ramselaar yess this is one of my favorite songs right now
Bart Ramselaar agree to disagree but I do love this song heaps anyways in particular, regardless these guys make mad as music because they have a good taste in music. That being said if they keep on getting softer and become a pop band my opinion will definitely change, pop is trash. =)
Agreed
OMMG this is actually my favorite song! Guys you rock, my favorite music video of you ❤ Love it so much! you're so talented :)
Yeahh!!
They're so talented so everything they do is good 😁
So Cool ‼
true :)
this is talent :D
Looks like it's about a relationship, but it's actually about our reality. OLN, you guys are awesome! Keep up the awesome lyricism and promoting the Truth! God Bless you guys!
I'm just so obsessed with this song and Our Last Night!
A years since this went out, unbelievable.
Best bros ever.
I mean the four of them, not just the Wentworth brothers.
"Your heart's in the same place
But your mind is a million miles away" Great job dudes.
A years since this went out, unbelievable.
Best bros ever.
I mean the four of them, not just the Wentworth brothers.
I loved it!!
+Kayla KillJoy xD
This is one of the only bands that I'm actually happy changed their style and went a bit softer, they always release great stuff.
Nick Sibilla his "soft" voice is amazing
I do prefer their new style of softer voices in general but screams more strategicly placed in the song to give it more flair.
Its about the same with this song and the rest of there other songs just different volume and a little bit of a different beat but really good song
yes! selective hearing is my favourite album.
Great comment, fully agree I just cant get enough of their acoustic stuff!
A young woman met a guy who she liked. they got together. and with time the guys ego grew more and more. and he thought she would never leave him. so he stops giving her the spark he had when they met. and at this point she's only there to enlargen his ego. she's had enough of living in hell. so she leaves. and everything is breathtaking. she even plays in the sand because its so different from where she was. she doesn't know where she is. but she sees her light again.
This song is basically about following your heart. well the music video is.
i am in bigger shit then her. my dog and my grandma died so i am lost and idk where i am idk where idk where i am going but i just keep moving on
This comment literally slaps me in the face
What’s funny is this song is about both sides of the coin “we can’t let it burn down so we need to find Common Ground” “it’s all about who’s wrong and who’s right”, “it’s so hard to find the truth when the other side wants to burry you” (literally both sides wanting to put the other 6 feet under”. So not sure If it’s about “his ego” maybe a relationship where there’s no common ground so as the lyrics go “we can’t find common ground so we agreed to burn it down” and Matt being the voice of reason “we can’t let it burn down so we need to find common ground”.
Edit: also states both sides are in disconnect “don’t wanna learn we just wanna fight” “we’ve been burning the lines between dreams and reality only the true can set us free” and lastly “I know we both want to do the right thing but the needle in our compass is trembling”. This song is definitely seemingly looking like a relationship where both sides are at fault and not the usual “he messed up” or “she messed up” in this case both messed up.
@@kenny1138 I agree with you, it's about the two of them. The video however is more like she wants to follow her dreams (risking entering a magic door that she doesn't know where it goes?) and the guy doesn't want to follow her, so it's kinda misguiding.
About the video, I think the desert and then the scary darkness represents the path to find yourself, to find your "light". The ending, however is lacking something... I'd have put there a beautiful place, not a rotten tree. And the last circle of light reminds us of the first portal, right? It could have been another, to a breathtaking land, high up in a mountain or... I don't know, like I said its feel a bit lacking :/
This needs more exposure!
"Post-hardcore is just a phase. You'll grow out of it." 5 years later and I'm still obsessed, largely thanks to these guys!
last chorus part is the BEST!!!!!!
the screams are definitely oln strong point. should do it more
The part when Trevor do screamos is the best part, I love it, and I love this band SO much
Seriously I can't decide which voice is better. Love from Egypt
Zainab Salah not sure!!
I love the mew song XD
I can’t decide either XD
The guitarist is definitely a better singer but I like lead singer's voice a lot more. :)
Zainab Salah Matt’s a better singer but Trevor is a better screamer.
Man I could listen to this a 1000 times!
*sees one comment suggesting more screaming* *sees 10 comments complaining about complaining* youtube comments give me cancer
Hands down Tim is top 10 best drummers of this century!
Killed it, the hanging lights look sick. Heavy Trevor is my favourite.
Something about the beginning that is just so soothing
exelente como siempre
This song is SOOO good like omg.
Geez. All these people talking about old OLN, new OLN.. to be honest I don't care.
Some of their songs I like, some I like less, but the band itself will always be in my heart and ears, and I will always support. ❤️
I'll admit, I like the softer style more then the hardcore style back in the day, but I'm not angry at them because they used to be like that. And that's what old fans say, they're angry at them for being more flexible, and that's what I'm against.
Goddamnit, people are bitching about another band going soft? Just like Linkin Park again
i can't understand some people, if they don't change their style 'll be caims 'cause "it's the same thing over the years", they changed and grow with this so much! Congrats Our Last Night Band, you're making a great job and make my life very happy with this songs THANK YOU SO MUCH, and i really hope to see you again in SP/Brazil
why the hell is this band so underrated?
Some times the real heroes remain unsung
Best rock band I discovered about them today and each song is just so good. All the love from Kenya.
This is my favourite OLN original song, Selective Hearing was so good and in my opinion is the best EP/ALBUM they have ever made.
I have been listening to this band sense I was 5! i'm 12 now!! my whole family loves this band too!
You guys never disappoint. No one asks my opinion but more screaming would be nicer. But I love it as it is anyways.
You are the best ... Great song..
the outro of this song is so sick
sooo touching this song
I honestly think the dude playing the guitar has such a good voice wtf
We appreciate that!
Mason. ikr. he should be the lead vocalist here.
Mun'im Mohd Well they both sound really good so keep both
OurLastNightBand yeah your amazing dude. I want Matt's guitar so badly but I'm only 14 so I can't afford it yet
Herro :) Big fan from Sweden. Just wanted to ask, you think there's a chance you're coming to play in Sweden in the near future? =)
Boys this is whats up!!! Lately been a little underwhelmed, but this is bringing me right back. Love it!!💙
Never clicked to a video so fast
Mr Guitar Same!!
Same
I love this song and this band!
I addicted to this song.
You guys kick so much ass. A lot of your guys' music is helpful when things aren't right. Thank you for the outlet.
When do these guys ever release anything disappointing ?
JohnnyMrC nope
It's so damn good to hear Trevor scream. It gets better and better. Keep it up man!
Even though I prefer stronger stuff, this is pretty good :D Nice job guys!
Thanks for the nice comment! :) Glad you dig it
OurLastNightBand Absolutely! Rhythm is catchy, lyrics are awesome and both of your vocals are clean and spot on! You had shown a great potential even in your covers I've heard at the beginning. Rock on!
you're fucking amazing! You deserve to be more famous because you're so talented. Love you.
_100_ best song of year; would listen again
This deserves more fucking ATTENTION
one of the best OLN's lyrics and sound!
the drummer is so absolute beast
Long time fan (since 08) and I feel that they reinvented themselves beautifully with Oak Island and the covers.
I want to be their manager lol
It sounds like a happy version of "Oak Island" EP
Best song! TY GUYS!
I'm surprised that people at my school don't know about this amazing band
yes! Adorei essa banda, incrivel
Going to see you live next year in South Africa! I absolutely can't wait. Thank you for giving me another reason to look forward to 2017!! :)
This is actually quite good.
Ignore the sellout comments, it's called finding your sound. You are definitely onto something slightly different.
I never heard of yall until Warped Tour Charolette. Yall put on a great show and have gained a new fan
Because you do not cover the song: The Kill (bury me) from the band: Thirty Seconds To Mars I'm sure it would look great in your voice......

This is my favourite song out of all their songs they have made
I fkin love you guys! Please come to the netherlandssss!
TwisTroGaming ook nederland hier deze band is best wel heel erg geweldig
vond hun eerste muziek beter vind dit liedje beetje matig
PurrFect Oh ik vind juist dit soort liedjes leuker maar iedereen zn eigen smaak tochh!
They were last June, during Jera on Air.
But with them gaining popularity and recognition more and more, it's only a matter of time. They'll surely visit us again :)
zeker ze zijn al 3x in nederland geweest volgens mij. echt in de dagen ik kan deze muziek steeds meer waarderen.... :)
Me and my biological father have had strain on our relationship in the recent years, and he just passed away suddenly on Monday, so when I commented on here a week ago thinking that it was a sign how this song has been playing nonstop for me I didn’t think the universe would hit me this hard. This song really hits deeper now, because we’re separated with no way to make amends 😒
amazing!!!!
Wow, simply amazing. Nothing else needs to be said.
I love this rock music so much, great jobs you guys 👍
OMGITSSTEVEN dude we are putting up some rock next week! Check it out
Currently got Vlog and stuff atm but next week new music
I've just noticed it's been exactly a year since this video clip was released. anyway, love this song. I can say I really feel these lyrics in me, because sometimes it isn't so simple to really find a common ground with somebody else, and it can be anyone, not just a partner.
I've been waiting patiently for a music video and it was totally worth it! Love this new track
This is the song that introduce me to this band thanks to Spotify. Now, I only wish the video had a bigger budget because I really wanted to see a house burning to the ground in the background while the band performs in front of a burning house.
Hey guys! I don't know if you want to check it out but I'm uploading a music video for Same Old War tomorrow for my media course.
It's up :)
Oh i remember this such an amazing song.
Awesome band! they make great covers. I also make covers in my channel, i hope you like my videos!
Hey it's awesome!!
You guys never fail to disappoint! I needed this, the lyrics are great.
I enjoyed the less screaming not because I think it sounds bad, but because more people worldwide prefer people not screaming down the mic. Loved the song tho great work
Exactly what I needed right now, thank you Our Last Night for always providing the amazing tunes!
FINALLLY!! Loved the last album so much
Such a beautiful and meaningful song. I love it.
Taehyunggie BTS!😂
Как же долго я этого ждал
blAck and whiTe жезка оч
Жаль вк нет нормальной версии трека
Полагаю, появится в ближайшее время
Что за девушка в клипе ? Знает кто ?
amazingggggggggggg! But "Home" for me are still be best song of them. Anyway they are awesome even that way. Keep rocking and bringing us the good music. Peace.
That girl is so incredibly beautiful.
The vocal effect on the outro is pretty awesome actually.
When I go through your songs, I can't find a single song that I don't like. You guys are so awesome! Just keep 'em coming! \m/ \m/
this song is awesome i can t believe that i fallow you since your 40000 subscribers guys you made so much good song that i listen everyday thanks a lot for that (sorry if i made english mistakes i m french ^^)
Alright, the girl here is... Gorgeous
absolutely loved this is would love to hear an acoustic version please
Me: mourns the death of my marriage while I’m still in it, so by time it ends I’m so glad. Don’t shed a tear about it in over a year. Finds a new to me band called Our Last Night, watch this video, and I’m so touched I start sobbing uncontrollably. How do you even write such relatable lyrics.
love this song so much
NEEDS MORE SCREAMING. Go back to metalcore plz. Best part of all your recent songs are the 10 seconds of good riffs and screaming
Most bands evolve, become mellow and hence become mainstream.
insidia im such a whiney entitled child, you got me. im just sick of bands like this changing their sound. TCM, WCAR, TWA, ISS, CTE, OM&M, all these bands i listened to in high school are all soft. it sucks
Nah fam OLN's younger dreams is their best work yet. Perfect mix of clean vocals in songs. Some songs. Don't even have screaming because they don't it like white tiger. And than you have your metal core songs like a wells divided, barricades, living now. OLN is writing some great music. They found their niche and I hope they keep it
NO. Go away
insidia but theres bands like TDWP, ABR, TAA who keep their core sound and are still going strong because they have strong fanbases.... so....
You guys are constantly dropping music that has meaning beyond the words. The music speaks perfectly to the tone. Keep it up dudes! Always a fan!
If you are a true fan, you will evolve with them. You will grow with them.
Um... this is true if you're talking about being a fan of the people playing the music, and not the music itself. I tend to not GAF about the musicians, I tend to only care about the content they put out... you know... the stuff that actually makes them famous.
@@danthedoozy9472 i think fans on a deeper level connect with the artist. connecting with the music is base level.
facts
@@clearlythuydoan I would disagree that connecting with the people playing the music is achieving some kind of 'deeper level' into the music. The music is the music and the artist is the artist. I do, however, totally agree with you that feeling a connection to the artist can enrich the musical experience, and provide context, meaning, and interpretation. Still, they are two separate things. To call the music by itself 'base-level' is ridiculous and insulting to art of such sophistication. Music can communicate vast fields of wisdom, emotion, and personal experience in only a few notes, as if it were its own living, evolving entity, carrying on long after its artist is gone. Clearly the two are independent of, yet inseparable from, each other.
@@danthedoozy9472 Perhaps then what we can focus on is this: "I do, however, totally agree with you that feeling a connection to the artist can enrich the musical experience, and provide context, meaning, and interpretation." and what I focus on is the artist and view the music as a part of the artist whereas you seem to be focusing more on the music.
So in that regard, if you look at appreciation of an artist to be in "levels" then I would say that it escalates like this: you like listening to a song, you like listening to multiple songs, you like listening to an album, you like listening to multiple albums, you connect with the music beyond what it sounds like and also resonate with its message, and then you connect with the artist as a person. That's the framework that I imagine when I think of connection with the artist and to like everything from the music to the message to the person is the ultimate for me.
