- Designed late during the One Year War, the YMS-16M Xamel was the first true heavy artillery mobile suit, designed to operate as a mobile artillery gun battery. Equipped with a powerful hovercraft/hoverjet system in its legs and massive skirt armor, it could skim along the ground at high speed, giving it the ability to fire, move to another location, set up and fire again without giving away its position too easily. Its primary armament was its long-barreled 680mm cannon, which could be folded up for transport when not in use. It also mounted a missile launcher pod for medium-range fire, but its close-combat abilities were extremely limited, with only a pair of almost useless arms and a 20mm vulcan gun turret mounted in the head. The Xamel also featured a tandem-seat cockpit, crewed by a pilot and a gunner. It was unknown exactly how many of these prototype units were produced, although one Xamel was used by Delaz Fleet forces in its Operation Stardust theft of the RX-78GP02A Gundam GP02A Physalis prototype from the Earth Federation Forces in October UC 0083, inflicting severe damage to the Torrington Base in Australia.
Unpopular opinion?. I always though ground battles are more coolers then space battles.

I don't think that's unpopular.
It's easier for an audience to understand the physics of a battle with gravity than without it.
I don't mind the space battles if it's more grounded in realistic feel like 0083. None of the other shows with stupid posings and stuff. But generally speaking yes. I think ground battle forces you to think more "real".
I think that's because most of the ones that have and focus on ground battles, put way more effort in due to being a shorter series or because well, they actually have to move. That and more often they seem to be 'normal' soldiers and frankly, tend to be way more 'to the last' and brutal (even OG Gundam Ramba Ral blowing himself up to even scratch the Gundam). Though also seem to more often end up more WWI up in the opponents face than many of the space battles that are just long range firing. That said - Gundam: The Origin and even at times Unicorn actually have some great space battles. As does 0083 and for the one it has 08th MS (the one time we see a ball actually be useful beyond target practice).
Favourite though will always be EZ8 vs Gouf Custom - yanking the damaged arm off as a makeshift weapon to just bludgeon the other unit out of desperation, to say nothing of the Gouf being animated in a way it's like some horror movie killer hunting it's prey.

This thing is less mobile suit than just a highly mobile artillery and fire support platform. It makes a lot of sense to have units like this that can travel alongside mobile suit forces. And the use of a conventional cannon means it can devote a lot of power to mobility to get into firing position or to escape enemies that get close.
that's what they call a mobile armor, like the big zam which was just a walking hyper bazooka launcher, pretty normal in gundam, its only effective if its being supported by other mobile suits but the moment that it is left alone its pretty much over which is what happened to the Xamel as it let the others retreat while holding off Uraki's team, in other words mobile armors are the tank equivalent for mobile suits it needs infantry for defense and offense just like any tank, the moment the infantry is taken out of equation its pretty much open season for that tank it will be hunted down by either enemy infantry or armor
Well it is based of the Hildolfr mobile tank, so yeah.
@@devastater97no, the Hildolfr was developed separately from the Xamel. Similar to what happened to the Goufs and Doms. Both didn't win in favour of the Doms.
@@aaronluisdelacruz4212 The Hildolfr was designed in U.C. 0072 the Xamel was designed in the closing stages of the One Year War in U.C. 0079. The Hildolfr and Xamel share the same upper torso design and their heads are essentially the exact same. The data on the Hildolfr was collected. There is literally no reason why the Xamel WOULDN'T have been developed off the Hildolfr.
What doesn't make sense, however, is marking it so damn big. What for? It's not like it's armed to the teeth, it's just a giant more mobile Guntank with arguably less firepower.

元から戦略的価値が低かったからガンダム計画を進められたんですけどね。
正確には元から忘れられてた基地がこの件があってさらに忘れられたですかね
バイアランカスタムに乗ってた元ティターンズのパイロットも、トリントン基地に左遷されてたって事ですね

Love the little zeon war girl tag on the mobile suit it’s one of those blink and you’ll miss it details but it gives more personality to the suit and it’s pilot

It isn't one of those "blink and you'll miss it" details. The shot literally pans toward it and the beam points directly to it. If you miss it then... pay attention next time.

Lemme see here; miniature fusion reactor which runs on space magic, what seems to be a dual purpose cannon, missile launcher, MS tickler (the Vulcan), advanced fire control systems, two seater so even electronics on board, plus all the ammunition it’s carrying, and .....what am I missing? Oh yeah! It can hover thanks to a big fuck off thermonuclear jet propulsion system thingy. Ya that ain’t cheap. Oh and all the other things needed to make it all work.

ジオン軍が開発した砲撃支援MS。面影はないが、あのヒルドルブの後継機と言っても過言ではない機体である。
複座式で、砲手と操縦士の2名運用が基本だが、その気になれば1人でも十分運用可能である。
重装甲ながら、ホバーによりある程度良好な機動性を確保。この機動力を活かし、速やかに砲撃ポイントに移行。背部の680mmカノン砲による長距離砲撃で、敵を問答無用で爆砕する。その火力は絶大で、トリントン基地司令部を一撃で破壊するほど。
また一見すると近接戦闘は弱く見えるが、8連装ミサイルランチャーとバルカン砲によりある程度は自衛が可能。さらにその重装甲を活かした体当たりは結構強力で、意外とパイロット次第では近接戦闘も侮れない性能となっている。
弱点として、砲撃をより効果的に使うには味方の観測部隊による索敵援護などが必須である点、前述したものの、やっぱり近接戦闘は基本的に不得手な点がある。
劇中ではデラーズ・フリート傘下のボブ中尉が、GP02強奪作戦の際に搭乗。その優れた砲撃能力を存分に活かし、トリントン基地に多大な損害を加え、GP02強奪に成功。その後砲撃支援MSながらGP02の直衛に回り、挙句殿を担当。しかしバニング大尉の駆るジム改を相手に互角の戦いを繰り広げるほどの大健闘。最終的にバニング機と相討ちになる形で撃墜。しかしGP02は守り通し、勝負に負けたが試合に勝つ結果となった。
設定的にはビームサーベルが使えるらしいから油断出来ない。0083で持ってなかったのは資源不足かな。

最近ザメルとヒルドルブの間（恐らく）にドムノーミーデスってのが出来ましたね。シルエットはザメルっぽいけどドルブの砲が付いてたりしてこの2機の間を感じさせつつもあくまでドムのバリエーション機というのを忘れない中々なデザインしてますよ。

Man, I love the Xamel. It's so big and chonky, and that Xamelian Cannon really packs a punch. It's just too bad its arms were so useless.
To be fair, it wasn’t designed for close range combat to begin with. The logical response would have been to withdraw once they we’re getting within their firing range.
@@romankvapil9184 I getcha, but there's more to useful arms then melee combat. For instance, they could hold a rifle in those arms.
@@Nehfarius I totally understand that there's a need to to fully utilize the limbs.
But think of it this way. That MS uses hovercraft technology. That means while very mobile, it's got a limited weight limit to the suit in order to power, function and move. While it's gargantuan, it still has to follow the same laws of physics and have to take a certain amount of weight for it to lift efficiently. Not only does one have to keep in mind of the hardware that thing will carry around, but also the ammunition, too.
Guess what is the largest and heaviest piece of hardware it's got on it? Yeah, that 680mm cannon on it's shoulder and all that ammo it's gotta carry.
To put into perspective, The Schwerer Gustav gun barrel alone (800mm) weighed over 15,000lbs. While firing AP rounds were 11 ft 10 in (3.6 m) long and were fired with 4,630 lb (2,100 kg) of propellant. The AP round was made of chrome-nickel steel. It weighed 15,653 lb (7,100 kg) and carried 551 lb (250 kg) of explosives. That means that the gun the Xamel uses is fairly close to that tonnage.
That gun and it's ammo alone probably chewed up most of it's carrying weight capacity.
The pilot and mechanics probably put it past the limit by loading it up with that missile pod, and coaxial gun on the poor thing, too.
It's also possible maybe they felt they didn't need it. But I'm chalking it up to weight limit here.

@@MaxHinaNaru Potentially closer to it's top speed, or accelerate to it's top speed faster. Because it all depends on the engine and thrusters that will have a top speed. The more weight added will effect it's speed, range and jump range.
Laws of physics state that the heavier an object is, the more energy is required to move an object to it's top speed/motion.
So logically, if you were to remove some of it's hardware from the Xamel, it would be able to lift itself and move to it's full speed with less energy needed.
Though why would you remove one of the only weapons you got to defend yourself from close range combat, is beyond me.
I love when Zeon suits glide along the ground like that. It’s cool as fuck. Wish there was more clips that would focus on it.

Love this unit. It's one of the few Gunpla I've wanted to get.
Side Note: I'm pretty sure the Xamel also appears in Gundam Build Fighters Try.

Sadly, they've never released Gunpla of the Xamel. There was an MSIA action figure (which I have) and I believe another action figure from a different line, both of which are rare and expensive today.
They need to hurry up and make gunpla of this and Big Zam.

It can outmaneuver a battle ship and it shares ranges like them. I think they made it well.

"Extra armor" yeah, about that. They make armor piercing shells for Xamels. There's no surviving that shot.
@@TheKing-qz9wd there is no surviving return fire ..... but an AP shell has a chance to bounce or be deflected
meanwhile an entire salvo has more chances to nail the Xamel and they will always penetrate its armor
the only advantage it has is speed and it cant return that fire while moving so its main weapon is worthless meaning it will have to use its missiles or auto cannon and that wont go well against a BigTray

Gundam universe BS says you're very unlikely to penetrate a Xamel's armor with a ship gun. Pretty sure they don't slap the luna titanium magic onto battleships. And what's one salvo of HE or HEAP compared to an oversize hole in your ship that sinks you almost instantly? I know you're broadside, man.

Y'know... i feel bad every time i play against one of these guys in GBO2 because it sorta makes me feel like nothing more than a bully... thing is so big that it's a very easy target and mobility isn't exactly its strong point either
I actually love using the xamel. If you know how to use it, it can feel like you're bullying everyone else.

You can get a similar experience with the Guntank Mass Production type at 250 cost, it has the longest range at 800 m but can't move too well. You're a god till someone comes close to you.

I wonder if they captured the Xamel, since it was pretty intact when defeated.
The most major damage is the hole made by the GM's Beam Saber.
I haven't seen any information but the cockpit was destroyed and the chassy was critically damaged like the Hildolfr. Hildolfr was scavenged for parts by zeon to make the dom gnomides but I think the Xamel was just scrapped.
