Very nice piece! I'm a relative 'newbie' StaffPad, having decided to make a concerted effort to really get to know it and utilize it. (though not at ll new to handwriting music!). I just completed a quartet piece completely in StaffPad for an ensemble I have, doing the composing and 'note-checking' in StaffPad. Then, I sent an MXML file to Sibelius in order to print parts in order to use a font and other settings I like. The process was very smooth. Look forward to visiting again!
Sounds wonderful. You’ve got a well-established workflow. I hope you share your quartet with us. I learn so much from composers from all genres. Thanks for posting and best wishes.😃🙏
Another whimsical and magical composition! I'm no expert on woodwinds, but I always found the Spitfire flute to be very warm and pleasant. I'm happy to be educated by someone with your knowledge and experience though. Do you find it lacking?
Thank you for such an indepth comment, LiquidChill. I rarely have used the Spitfire flute because I was always enamoured by the CineWind flute... until this video and reflection. I was impressed by the Spitfire flute, especially in it's mid-octave range and emotive qualities. The Muse Sound flute grabbed my heart due to its breathy quality in the low register... something I have loved in writing for flute. It all started with a piece by John Barry, Somewhere in Time, back in the '80s ( www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=Somewhere+in+time+movie+music+composer&mid=9A0934D5833D7CD2757B9A0934D5833D7CD2757B&FORM=VIRE ). Although, I believe this performace on the link is an alto flute, but still captivating. I would choose the flute type based on the register and type of piece. It will be fun to try each one out in future pieces. Thank you, again for your elequent comment and kindness. Take the best of care!
I love the music Marshall! Have you been influenced by Bartok's folk work for this piece? I see some atypical harmonic and melodic choices which always perk up my ears. I also find Muse sounds to be great for smaller groups. They are closer mic'd
