    Actually you can find the Piri Piri sauce in the US today...It's NANDO'S Piri Piri sauce, available at many supermarkets is the US. (Nando's was originally a South African Restaurant chain started some decades ago. With Mozambique as a nextdoor neighbor and a large Portuguese exile population in place, it naturally took hold over there. Nando's today has restaurants in UK and beyond)

    Im from New Bedford and i make this alot that sauce u can find around here it's very easy to make and so DELICIOUS. Some recipes use beer instead of wine also a packet of. Goyas Sazon is added. I use beer they both are delicious

    I don't understand why people cut horizontally towards the root of the onion. The natural rings provide the size of the pieces, all you need to do is choose how wide of cut you take. There is no reason to cut horizontally and as you can see it results in different sizes.

    ATK might use & share this technique; to insert a toothpick into the shrimp’s 2nd shell joint (1 joint forward of the tail) & below the alimentary canal (digestive track) & as you lift up on the toothpick it’s extracted in one piece.

    Love this dish. I did not have any Peri Peri left the last time I made this but did have some Berbere so I made a sauce and I was surprised how good it came out.

    Peri-peri is available all over the place here in RSA.
    Its very common here. Makes me think of Nando's mmmmmmm🍗🍲

    If you're ever in the southeastern part of New England you have to try some Portuguese food. My favorite dish is the rice with thin garlic steak, fried potatoes, and eggs. Sounds plain but its on a whole other level.

    It's made with Pimenta Moida, Saffron, white wine, butter, minced garlic and Salt
    If you use hot sauce it should be Gonsalves.

    I have been making and ot eating this my whole life. Never use bread. Do not use a blender for spices. Put them in the olive oil without bleach ding. AND..do not remove the shells. Cook with shells on and peel after cooking. Adds lots of flavor.

    I don't know why people advocate for the horizontal cuts when chopping onion. It really does nothing and is dangerous in the wrong hands or with a dull knife.

      @@jbfarley how so? Onions have layers, the horizontal cuts are unnecessary. I can get just as fine a dice by not doing them. I worked as a prep cook in college...I've tested a million ways and it doesn't make a discernable difference

    I’m sorry, as much as I like Frank’s hot sauce for chicken wings, it is no replacement for peri peri peppers or peri peri sauce. Frank’s red hot runs 450 Scoville units. Cayenne pepper runs 30 to 50,000 Scoville units. A Piri Piri pepper runs 300,000 Scoville units. About that have a good hot Habanero! If you’re going to make a recipe that is supposed to be like somebody else’s recipe, make it right!

      Certainly has the sweet note amid the heat. Have to say I'm in southeast PA and have easy access to fresh bird's-eye chilis in the Indian groceries in the area. I'll bet there's piri-piri if I looked, but I'm curious how the original is made, since I'm sure many of us can get the chilis involved.
