Lyrics: That night beneath the stars, When all the world was ours, Is just another memory. The smile upon your face, The thrill of your embrace, Is just another memory. Every dream was just a precious token Till I knew that all your vows were easily broken. Life's a withered rose; My book of love I close. You're just another memory. Every dream was just a precious token 'Til I knew that all your vows were easily broken. Life's a withered rose; My book of love I close. You're just another memory.
I believe Rudy is the Prince of Old Time Romantic Love Songs. I love watching him sing as much as listening to him. I feel I can see the empathy, compassion, and close relationship with the lyrics in his every move. Thanks for the contribution... it's a big Favorite...
Rudy Vallee is one of the few artists whose music is almost invariably on my repeat playlist. Gosh I love this guy's music. The entire Vagabond Lover soundtrack was effing gorgeous!
When I was a kid in the early 60s Rudy Vallee was considered something of a joke...I guess he adapted to the changes in musical tastes by parodying himself. It wasn't until years later, when I became aware of music of this era, that I discovered what a talented and versatile performer he was. He was equally at home with boola-boola collegiate songs, lighthearted numbers, and wistful ballads like this. Thanks so much for posting this.
Love yah, Rudy. I pass your grave on my commute to work and sometimes even stop by and have a moment with yah where you're laid. Be well on your spiritual journey. Yours is a wild one.
I have always loved crooners, but I did not know Rudy Vallée. Thank you for this very interesting discovery from a historical point of view of this type of song.
Three years ago, steffenLarsen54 expressed a curiosity as to the identity of Rudy Vallee's drummer and if he had any descendants. A year later, I responded with the information that Ray Toland was Vallee's drummer at the time this footage was photographed, so that it is probably him. I have just discovered a "conversation" on youtube discussing Vallee's 1937 recording of Deep Night. The "conversation" is from three years ago and is between EricJamesHanson, whose father played trumpet for Vallee during the early years, and Lynda Williams, whose grandfather played drums for Vallee during the same time frame. I believe Lynda Williams may very well be Ray Toland's granddaughter. Since she is on youtube, she has no doubt seen this footage.
Does anyone remember ..I believe this was a Grammys award show in the 70s.. Mr valli..made a guest presentation with Frankie valli... And he sung one of his four seasons songs but in the manner of the golden era of music... Frankie didn't look impressed .. or maybe that was the skit.... But to see two legends from two very different eras side by side was a real treat. Just my opinion.
This song, Rudy and the Connecticut Y continue playing through the infinite romantic nights...for his generation, for mine and all others that will come, through the same romantic nights...
A grade school friend's grandparents knew Rudy and he came to see them for an afternoon in the 1960's about the time How To Succeed In Business was a hit. He may have been visiting town with a road show. Rudy travelled with his four Basset Hounds and the dogs frantically ran around the house in a pack all the while he was there. Does anybody know what happened to the Rudy Vallee archive he kept in the old screening room of his house in Hollywood?
Rudy was one of the greatest! Real music and real singing; not just some scruffy creep shaving with a microphone with a bunch of untalented guitar twangers.
"The thrill of your embrace is just another memory" I know how you feel mate, in fact it's been so long since a woman embraced me i've clean forgot it.
“Winchester Cathedral” was not a remake: it was written by Geoff Stephens, a member of the New Vaudeville Band which recorded the song on the Fontana label in 1966. Disc jockeys surmised that it was a remake of a 1920s Vallee recording-and though he had nothing to with the song, he recorded his own version early in 1967.
Hey, Micelli1947 and ssoldie, here are the lyrics you requested: Last night beneath the stars/When all the world was ours/Is just another memory; The smile upon your face/The thrill of your embrace/Is just another memory. Every dream was just a precious token/Till I knew that all your vows were easily broken; Like a withered rose/My book of love I close/You're just another memory.
These songs remind me of The Shining. They are both pleasant to listen to and slightly creepy at the same time. I guess its the old time sound of a record and the not so good recording quality that comes through.
the drummer behind Rudy Vallee is easily recognizable from clip to clip. Lol, I'm curious now: who was he, what happened to him, does he have descendants?
I'm not 100% sure, but I do know that Ray Toland was the drummer with the Connecticut Yankees at the time this footage was shot, so it is probably him. As to his descendants???
It was the youthful rush to make and listen to simple music that started in the 50s with the advent of rock and roll. Complexity or rather intricacy has seen no major breakthroughs into the mainstream since, but may be found, niche as it is
When I die you’ll hear this playing from my room.
Lyrics:
That night beneath the stars,
When all the world was ours,
Is just another memory.
The smile upon your face,
The thrill of your embrace,
Is just another memory.
Every dream was just a precious token
Till I knew that all your vows were easily broken.
Life's a withered rose;
My book of love I close.
You're just another memory.
Every dream was just a precious token
'Til I knew that all your vows were easily broken.
Life's a withered rose;
My book of love I close.
You're just another memory.
Rudy had such a haunting voice and his band was so in tune with that voice
Rocco vitiello aW
His singing was typical 1920's.
@@robertmasina4610 Not at all. Just about no one sang in that dreamy sexy style.
@@phredl 'The voice with the cock' apparently.
@@robertmasina4610 absolutely not-- he has a very distinctive lyric voice and an acute sense of pitch and inflection. He is truly a great musician.
¡¡¡¡Bravísimo!!!!

Me too!
@@davidtodora6173 I love this song 🎵 and ones like this, are awesome 👏
I love the slightly ghostly songs from the 1920s and 30' - think of the overlook hotel
Timeless song. Haunting is an apt description. Love it.
Timeless? Not at all. Extremely dated. Haunting? Yes. But that's not altogether positive. It's scary, yet useful.
After all these years,I never tire of this slow fox-trot.
That piano line under the refrain: SO GOOD!
I believe Rudy is the Prince of Old Time Romantic Love Songs. I love watching him sing as much as listening to him. I feel I can see the empathy, compassion, and close relationship with the lyrics in his every move.
Thanks for the contribution... it's a big Favorite...
Incredibly haunting ballad. Stays with you for a while after every listen.
Great song. Love Rudy and the group. Wish they were still here.
another life I once had.... Love it ...
Same, these types of songs make me feel like I've been reincat

the drummer with a friend of mine back in the 1970s
93 years ago!
Rudy always sings his heart out.
This is wonderful. I love the music from this era.
Thanks, Rudy and RIP.
Beautiful! Brings tears to my eyes

Music was Music back then!!! I think I was born too late!!
What a beautiful song with haunting treasures. 😊Rudy and his orchestra were in top form on this night. 1929
I remember listening to this while riding around in my Stutz Bearcat. Those were the days.
It's nice to see Rudy performing. Such a beautiful song, too!
Love yah, Rudy. I pass your grave on my commute to work and sometimes even stop by and have a moment with yah where you're laid. Be well on your spiritual journey. Yours is a wild one.
First time i see images of Rudy Vallee. What a great singer and beautiful melody!(Brazil)
i luv old timey music especially with a vocalist like rudy vallee.
Fabulous song, excellently performed by Rudy. Love the piano counterpoints. Many thanks for posting.

Great performance by Rudy - so romantic.
I love this music. I can listen to this all the timeI believe that I'm an old soul.

Intriguing! Wow. I love historical connections. So cool.
So lovely. So pensive. So soothing.
I didn't know this song and version. Now I love it. Great finding
How graciously he defers to the other musicians! This is unheard of in today's "artists."
From the 1929 Paramount short RADIO RHYTHM, shot at the Astoria Studios in Long Island.
This is just amazing!! I have the Victor 78 of him performing this song!
Beautiful!❤
Beautiful. So glad this is still around to enjoy.
Very Nice!
Goosebumps

Thank you so much for this upload !
Fantastic , I can hear my Grandfathers farm kitchen .
I take it that was the kind of music to listen to if one grew up at that time. I have no gripes with that.
Muchas gracias por compartirlo.
Frank Crumit very underrated singer and almost forgotten now.
those puppy dog eyes, soft, romantic, slightly naughty style, definitely I can see why he was such a heartthrob, the first boy band
Thank you, so very much for posting so many of Rudy's romantic and sweet ballads
Loved w3atching Rudy "LIVE"
Still a Classic.
Lovely 🌹🌹🌹🌹
How beatiful!!
Great song Rudy is awesome.
Great video! Love his music.
Прекрасно во все времена!
Great early clip of Rudy
Actually this is Vallee's little band from Yale University and filmed in 1927.
Gracias Amigo!
Bella voz

Go Rudy!
Check out the big circle behind the band, its all covered in R Vs.
Easy to miss.
Found out huh, another life's milestone.
If you could be cool holding a saxophone or a clarinet, that was Rudy Vallee...
"The thrill of your embrace is just another memory"
I know how you feel mate, in fact it's been so long since a woman embraced me i've clean forgot it.
This song is quite haunting. I love that. It reminds of the 1928 song “Evening Star”. By Paul Whiteman. and his orchestra. Check it out!
Who are the jerks who gave this thumbs down?
Right to my favorites 5*
❤❤❤
良い曲だなあ。。
thanks!
I love this song. It could also be a rock song. I’m gonna work on it. Cool 😎 Thanks for posting this song.
You know you're right: I think Sir Rod Stewart could so this . Thoughts?
I love the low-quality photo quality of the video. Kind of looks like a concert from Night of the Living Dead....
In 1965 a remake of Winchester Cathedral was made&sounded much like Rudy Vallee.
Remember listening to it on the juke box in 1963, Iwas 16 and drinking in a bar, which was illegal at the time, I am now 71

That is a real insight. I agree with ya!
Should have the words to the song also posted. (just a suggestion)
OH! I LOVE THIS! Who is the tasteless ass who does`nt?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
He complained constantly about music coming from another apartment by his. The band? Steely Dan. Taken from an interview with Tom Snyder.
Talented musician....what instrument did he not play?

He would have to be doing gymnastics while his band played if this was now.

Was this a remake? I'm seeing in the ACE Repertory it's performed and written by Walker Ikard?
Where is the mike? I suppose it is not palyback.
I'm not 100% sure, but I do know that Ray Toland was the drummer with the Connecticut Yankees at the time this footage was shot, so it is probably him. As to his descendants???
Something went wrong in the 60's with music because everything was down hill
You probably mean these guys... ua-cam.com/video/0Sr0efOe8yk/v-deo.html

I heard this in a fnaf vhs video made by noobzor9
Interesting instrumentation for the time - no horn section huh?
