Why did Israel's government feel compelled to exaggerate and misrepresent the gruesome nature of the October 7 attacks, which were already horrific enough without such embellishments? The answer is obvious: To represent Palestinians as so depraved and so barbaric that committing genocide against them would appear justified.
Whenever confronted with the civilian death toll in Gaza, Israel and its defenders (Biden and Blinken included) will revert immediately to focussing not on the number of October 7 victims (which is minuscule in comparison with the number of Palestinian deaths) but rather on the gruesome details of Hamas's crimes, which have mostly been debunked.

Pre-Shoah, 85% of Jews, including all four of my grandparents, were vehemently against Herzl's "Judenstaat" idea. Today, or should I say on October 6th 2023, almost every single J e w I know - especially the ones who are aggressively secular/agnostic/atheistic - are passionately pro Judenstaat. The last 8 months has likely reduced that number significantly but not to the extent - as yet - where they are the majority.
Ultimately, we need a solution to this problem that is long term sustainable for both sides. How we get there, who knows. I wish I did. So much future bloodshed and pain could be prevented on both sides.

It’s easy to prove. Everyone knows it. They jailed whistleblowers over it. They have threatened to use them. Given the admissions and overwhelming evidence, we could demand inspections before providing more “aid” - our government just doesn’t want to.
