I'm a low porosity girlie myself & deep conditioning with a heat cap is a great way to get moisture into our hair. As far as protein overload, that's mostly a form of product buildup & is quite common if you use lower quality sources of protein (hydrolyzed wheat protein, pea-protein, vegetable protein, quinoa protein, & sometimes keratin). These lower forms of protein work by forming a protective coating around your hair strand & can lead to that hard brittle feeling. But that is mostly a form a product buildup & can happen with oils, butters & silicones as well. As long as you remember to clarify your hair, it should be fine. Low porosity hair is known to experience product build-up the most but we still need to have a protein moisture balance. What helped me is removing lower form sources of protein & going for products with silk amino acids, collagen, or elastin, the molecules are smaller & penetrate the hairshaft better so they don't form a film around the hair & actually repair it fom the inside. Peptides are also great as well, K-18 once every 4 to 6 weeks on your blonde section would help better followed up with a moisturizing deep conditioner (free of protein). But those little protein packet deep conditioners are filled with those low grade proteins, better for high porosity hair but kind of suffocates low porosity hair.

Do you have some recommandations for good protein treatments? outside of k18

I have both low and high porosity hair and I honestly don’t know what to do? Anyone with advice ? My hair is fully natural and not damaged in any way. That’s just how it is naturally

Bonding treatments 1-2 times a month have helped my hair tremendously. It smoothes the cuticle. It makes hair stronger like protein but it softens hair. There’s a ton at the drugstore. I like L’Oréal and Marc Anthony.

@ ahh so pretty much I can do an even mix of protein and moisture treatments so all of the hair benefits? Just so I’m clear…the back portion is the high porosity section and everything else is low

@ bc u have mixed porosity i would prob do bond treatments not protein treatments. They act like protein but bc they are moisturizing u wont risk dryness like u may with protein. But i agree with everything else.

@ ahhh okay. I didn’t realise they were different. Thank you for explaining!

@ they solve most of the same hair issues…but my experience is bond treatments don’t dry the hair out as much so they tend to be easier. I can use bond treatments once a month or two weeks with great results….but if i accidentally use protein too often my hair is DRY and it snaps.
Bond treatments is like protein with better learning curve…but ask a stylist!
