DJI RC Controller Control Stick Module Replacement

- **** IMPORTANT UPDATE ****
One thing that isn’t covered in this video is to check the fitment and layout of the wires of your newly installed thumb stick. I wasn’t careful and one of the reinforcing plastic ribs of the controller cut through the wire when I closed everything up tight and rendered my rotation input useless. I ended up having to redo this whole process over again with a second replacement thumbstick. I don’t know why it didn’t show up on my initial test, but it ruined my first test flight 😬
My first time opening up the DJI RC Controller and replacing my totally smashed control stick module.

Thanks so much. I only had to watch up until 11:00 minutes because all I needed to know was how to get it opened.
I dropped mine in water and wanted to see if it was dry enough before I charge it again. 👍
Glad to help, brother!
Shout out to that Tulsa Beach Rugby tank top!
Thank you very much for your video
Thanks to your video you can repair my control without having to change any part, my control constantly did not respond to the left lever, but thanks to your video I took it apart and realized that the lever coupling was loose and I was able to position it correctly and the matter was resolved .
Greetings from El Salvador
Muchas gracias por su apoyo de muy lejos! Me alegré que su drone funciona de nuevo. Pido desculpas, no uso mi español con frecuencia estés días.
Saved me from making a lot of mistakes. Thank you!
Happy to help! Glad my mistakes can be others’ lessons!
Happy flying out there!
Just broke my right stick, thanks for this video. Gonna attempt to repair mine.
Glad to help out! Be sure to check where the wiring is laying when you go to push the controller back together. I wasn’t careful and my connector got caught and ended up cutting through one of the wires and I lost all left/right input on my first flight. Ended up doing the whole operation a second time.
i just ate shit on ice today. hit my head. had my drone and controller just like this one in my hands. both sticks got pushed in and r rattling so much rip. this videos saving me 300$ in labor. i thank you for that
Glad to help, bud! I feel like Cloud City Drones should be paying me a referral fee by now 😂
@@Kuykenstuff straight up😂
keep it up.
Thanks! Hopefully I won't have to do anymore self repairs, but in case I do, they'll be posted here!
@@Kuykenstuff Right, I'm a self repairer
Very informative but that second camera pissed me off lmao!thanks for coming thru
Sorry dude, was my first attempt at a proper UA-cam video and was trying to do the most!
Glad the video got you through it!
Simple and very informative video very chill
Thank you kindly!
Did the same thing... this is really helpful thanks man! Ordered the replacement joystick and actually I'm looking forward to replacing it.
I just hope it helps some people and that guy from Reddit feels shame.
I closed the garage door right on my controller sticks. Thanks a ton for making this vid!
Oh no, that sounds like a debacle!!!
One thing that I didn’t mention in this video is to check the fitment of the wires when you’re laying them down, before closing the controller up. Apparently one of mine got clipped by the little plastic reinforcing ribs, so I couldn’t turn left or right on my first flight and ended up having to do the whole process over again!
Dang, that sucks.. sorry to hear that. I already closed her up and did a test flight, but I could easily see how that would happen. Guess I'll eventually find out if a wire is pinched.
@@miken216 mine was apparent immediately. I sent my Mavic 3 up and then it wouldn't turn. Super bummer. On the bright side, I was able to do the whole replacement in 5 minutes the second go-round.
Thanks for this. From Canada
You’re welcome! The guy in the Reddit comment didn’t really appreciate it 🤣
Anyways, I didn’t get a chance to video it, but you’ll want to be really careful with where you lay the wires down in the controller before you snap it back together. Somehow after this video, one of my wires got pinched and eventually cut and I lost all horizontal input from the new control stick. It was really strange and frustrating until I discovered the issue.

This is my drone channel. It was my original comment from my fishing channel. I dropped my remote on a fire escape with the sticks still screwed on. It damaged my right controller stick. Being a Canadian, I ordered from the link you provided, so Fed Ex fee is $34 bucks Canadian. The stick itself was $30 Canadian, and I also ordered their Fix it kit. Yours is the only video I could find anywhere on any platform that demonstrates how to replace it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
@@glennmcneil1673 happy to help! I had another guy reach out from Germany talking about how shipping from that link would have cost more than a whole new RC unit 😬😬😬
The links in your desciption are not complete. I am trying to find how to replace batteries in this controller and there are no forums about it nor videos. So strange.
Thank you I dropped the controller from 5 meter high and it still works, but the case was a little open Thank you .
Dang! Sounds lucky that you didn’t crack the screen or worse!
Glad you still found this helpful. Happy flying, amigo!
Is it android os?
@@chazztesa yes, the RC controller runs Android OS by default. I don’t know if it can be jail broken or not.
