Star Trek: Comes out with blisteringly cool ships.
Eaglemoss: “Guess we’ll die””
I do think they might have clung on if they'd got the Babylon 5 License to replace the harm caused by downturns elsewhere.
Perhaps they should have diversified sooner though.
Maybe even got the license to something with a rabid fan base like WH40K Or tried to get a few individual licenses.. maybe made some Doctor Who Spacecraft (Like a Dalek Saucer).
@@90lancaster I think you're possibly right. I think there's a few things they did from go that set a standard they couldn't fully maintain, but also I think, as you say, there were holes in the market they didn't or couldn't explore, and the places they could explore just didn't result in ROI.
Hopefully Fanhome learns from Eaglemoss
Imagine what they could have done with the Star Wars license! I still wish someone would pick up and release their Serenity model from Firefly.
I miss Eaglemoss. I would love to have had an XL release of the Shrike!
The Shrike reminds me of the Vorlon Dreadnought (not Cruiser 😂) from B5.
@@TonySquared09 yeah, pure B5 type ship, and vorlon dreadnought not cruiser. Sadly one thing B5 did wrong are classify type of ships
@@KallenSC ah yes thanks, been ages since I last seen B5, time for a re-watch!
Great shout 👍
Yay we’ve got ships, prime cannon.
It’s a really cool design. I do miss the old days when they had technical manuals that went along with the ship and explained what the main parts do …
Also the sound reminds me of the Aliens pods from War of the Worlds
Yes. I thought that as well.
The eyeball at the bottom of the ship kind of creates an evil Nebula class vibe; maybe Nebula class still working for Thanos
Makes me think of Shadow/Vorlon combination.
The impulse engines on the "struts" look a bit like modified versions of Concorde's engines - Concorde, as in the Supersonic plane.
But they also look like parts from a "Zoids" toy (I think that is what it is, but I don't know its name) - I have the parts in my "box of broken plastic" to be used in trash-build projects,
I always assumed that the Shrike was a ship that Section 31 designed and built (as a prototype), and Vadic stole it when she escaped from Daystrom Station.
In my "headcanon", Section 31 used a mix of various designs/aesthetics and technologies from a number of races (including a Star Fleet style navigational deflector pod) - leading to an overall design that is reminiscent of many others, but not specifically identifiable as one thing or another (part of its covert nature, as a ship of unknown origin).
I also had it in my "headcanon" that the "Portal Weapon" had been designed to be installed on the Shrike, specifically.
It is funny that you mention the "Batwing"... as soon as I saw it in any detail, I started making plans to build a model of a "Shadow Universe" version of the Shrike, using the wings from 2 large Kenner "Batman Forever" Batwing toys (so 4 wings in total), plus various other things from my "parts store", including "witches fingers" bought at Halloween, for some of the additional pointy bits, and a couple of shampoo/shower gel/bubble bath bottles as the central body part.
It probably won't be the "correct" size (as I tend to work in 1:1000)... but it's an alternative universe version, so the size can be different - it also allows me to be "flexible" with some of the design elements, but it should still be identifiable :-)
When I've got all the pieces that I need (the project is on the back-burner at the moment, as other projects have leap-frogged over it), I will post it in the Trekyards Facebook Group, and other groups.
Thumb's up for Zoids 👍
Commenting before the end of the video, but it reminds me of Ruafo's ship in Insurrection just flying the other way. The Son'a did produce Ketricel White for the Dominion.
We need the Enterprise G! It should have been a Galaxy X!
i see elements of Cardassian, Son'a, Breen, and Jem Hadar....given that its commanded and crewed(?) by changelings...kidna makes sense to me.
It's a smaller version of the "fried onion blossom" design, first used in Star Trek Nemesis. (If you're not in the southern US, a fried onion blossom is an onion, cut almost all the way through, flared out, battered, and fried into a delicious chrysanthemum shape. Eaten with ranch dressing, of course!)
Or a Cylon raider with extra wings.
I cannot un-see the Batwing now. Thanks.
They always pull out a OP ship outta nowhere.
I definitely appreciate it more with the detailed look in this video. When I first saw it, I was firmly in the, "Ugh. Dumb evil ship that makes evil noises" camp. Now, while I think it's *way* too big to be called a Shrike, which is a tiny, violent bird, it at least looks cool.
Looks very Scorpion like.A great scary design that was hard to see in Picard.
Kind of reminds me in part of a Ferengi Marauder, or Sona battleship. I do like it.
Paint it orange and its giving strong Ferengi Marauder vibes!
Impulse engines aren’t thrusters, so they don’t need to point straight backward.
Woot - First! Neat ship - looking forward to your opinions.
I actually liked that sound 😂
I liked the Shrike, I personally thought it could have been a new type of Jem'hadar ship mixed with a bit of Breen design.
It`s an interesting design, I`ll start there, it`s nice. But I`m kinda bored with bad guy ships that look so obviously like bad guy ships. It`s a bit cartoonish.
And the Shrike`s deflector reminds me of a cigarette lighter from an older car. :)
Secondary hull looks like nebula class secondary hull
It’s section31 she stole when she escaped if it’s section31 they aren’t suppost to look federation so design is suppost to be different
Been waiting for this one
The pincer has a ferengi vibe
Got the Riker maneuver with titan using a tracker beam with Asteroid mamaneuver
The pincer thing looks like the Ceti Eel from Star Trek II, and a Scimitar, and a Conspiracy alien ship. Probably they intended to include the Blue Gills, as in the Starship Locations fan film about the tribbles and blue gills, but then they changed it to Changelings and Borg, another STL idea.
Reminds me of the Invid from Robotech
"It looks very aggressive, and I think k that's the point." I c what you did there 😉
The strut engines next to the main body... Normandy from Mass Effect, maybe?
Kinda like a Vorlon Dreadnought if you squint a bit.
It looks a lot like a Polaris Arachnid from EV Nova.
It's like they let the Klingon mod shop remodel Kylo Ren's Starfighter.
Shame the shrike isn't Silver as it would have been a Hyperion reference.
I haven't seen Picard season 3 but the sound effect sounds an awful lot like the 'blaster beam', a weird electronic musical instrument used as the signature sound effect for V'ger in 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture.'
14:25 this view really points out just how much of a larger, more voluminous ship the D was to the E.
It's also a bit Giger-esque.
Have you done a review of the Ross class yet?
Shuttle bay door are closed
Well they're changelings So they're ex dominion Sorta, the look of the shrike reminds me of the son'a ships, They were affiliated with the dominion So maybe they Obtained an older vessel of theirs possibly pieced together from other racists too, or it's totally a Frankenstein ship lol. Just a thought. I did however Really enjoy Amanda Plummer's performance She was just over the top overly dramatic Loved her!
B5 pointies.
Someone saw Babylon 5
U must be blind It as it looks very Dominion like, it's bug like & the pincers and prongs resemblance to jem ha'da battle cruiser it just not purple
that looks horrible.
i sure hope its not supposed to be some sort of romulan design to get a connection to nerada. (haven't kept up with shit trek outside of strange new worlds and lower decks)
Commander Mumbles needs to learn to consistently speak more clearly and enunciate better. It's improved since early years, but still, 15% of what's said is difficult to understand. Good video on an interesting ship.
How is it the ultimate predator? This thing is a spindly target, and has more blind spots than an entire army could count on their combined fingers. To say nothing of the absolute trash that their internal systems must be to conform to a layout like that. There's absolutely nothing efficient or powerful about it. It just "looks cool". And...I don't even really agree with that.
