Shuichi is also in high school. His school is located outside the town which is why there's a theory that he is able to recognize the oddities of the town and be actually freaked out about it.
Ohhhh okay. We just thought an adult was dating a high schooler 😂. Glad that is not the case. That is a very interesting theory and I could totally believe that!
I knew absolutely nothing about this. I only saw it popping up among all of my reaction channels so I watched it this afternoon. This isn't my usual genre but it is unsettling in an incredibly intriguing way. I have no idea what to expect, and I am looking forward to the rest
Same with us!! It was such a disturbing first episode but it just made me want more. I am really excited for the upcoming episodes. Will you be watching Dandadan today?
I really liked how the animation kept the look of Junji Ito's illustrations. His style is so integral to the horror of his narratives. I saw the live action Uzumaki movie (released back in 2000), and it just couldn't translate the visual horror of the work (plus the visual effects were bad). I do have to say that the pacing on this one is a bit haphazard. Some moments feel so abrupt. Like, SUDDENLY, the dad is dead and is already being cremated. SUDDENLY Azami is chasing down Shuichi because she's suddenly obsessed with him. That pacing issue is coming from the way the writers chose to splice multiple chapters together. Since the events from those separate chapters are happening concurrently, the writers chose to weave those events chronologically, and unfortunately some parts ended up feeling really choppy as a result. I still loved the episode though.
I definitely agree with the pacing issues. I rewatched the episode after our reaction with my wife to also see what the English VAs sounded like (definitely better in Japanese) and noticed there seemed to be a lot of cuts where it seemed there was a large time skip. I really liked this first episode regardless and am excited for the rest. I think the next couple episodes have 45 min time slots so hopefully the pacing is a bit better.

@@BG-Reactions probably not today, Thursdays are busy for me, but yes, I do plan to watch that.
@@Rutabega_NG awesome!! We are excited for it! We will be reacting to it today, so it will be posted by the time you watch it.
